The Reborn Sidekick Rejected The Male Lead-Chapter 433 - 418
Chapter 433: 418
They made a simple breakfast upon returning home.
After the family finished eating, they first went to the community office.
The community office is next to the club, and the community hospital is in a small two-story building to the left of the entrance.
It’s very convenient.
At the office, they were received by a member of the neighborhood committee, a senior lady who knew right away that they were there to register for travel upon hearing they worked in the county.
The lady seemed very familiar with the procedure and upon learning they were at Chengguan No.1 Middle School: "You’re in North Street, right? For North Street, take the number two bus. Comrade Lu, the vehicle will leave on time at 6:30 a.m. on Monday from the gate. Do you need a pickup?"
"Auntie, what time is the pickup?"
"Normally starts at six, but some finish work at five, and after picking everyone up, it’s about seven or so. You’d get back around seven thirty."
"I’ll take the pickup." Lu Jingqiu was curious and wanted to experience it.
Besides visiting the community gate, they went to the nearby newspaper kiosk to make a phone call to Capital City.
They told Grandfather about their situation, that they had settled in well, Xiao Cheng had started kindergarten, and Jingqiu’s work was arranged.
After sending their regards, they made another call to Father Lu.
Then they called Manman’s workplace.
Thinking that her little aunt should not have arrived home yet,
they didn’t call her husband.
After leaving the community office, the family of three went back to the residential area and headed to the Yang Family’s building behind Factory Three to find them.
Old Man Yang was out working.
Old Mrs. Yang asked, "What part do you want to fix?"
"Auntie, we’re thinking of fixing up the kitchen stove."
"Which building, unit, and floor? Old Master Yang will come over to take a look when he returns, but he has work these days, it might take a few days."
Jiang Nanzhou said, "That’s fine, anytime will do."
After saying that, they made a note in the lady’s register.
After lunch, Old Man Yang came over.
Jiang Nanzhou led him into the kitchen, saying they wanted to build a countertop.
Lu Jingqiu talked to him about constructing it with bricks and then smoothing it over with cement, mentioning it would be great if they had bricks.
Fearing Old Master Yang might not understand, she even showed him the pre-drawn designs of the stove.
Old Man Yang laughed, saying, "A few families have built theirs with bricks, I’ve done some myself, but they didn’t install cabinet doors, they just put up a curtain. Can you install cabinet doors?"
"Yes, we can."
"Alright then, I should be able to finish the jobs I have for two families by Wednesday and come over to do yours. Are you getting the bricks yourself, or should I bring them for you?"
Jiang Nanzhou handed Old Man Yang a cigarette, and Lu Jingqiu poured him a glass of water.
The courteous Old Man Yang felt quite uncomfortable, as those who sought him for repair work in the past had never treated him with such hospitality.
He also started smiling, asking, "Do you still need this table?"
"No, we don’t. I’ll move it for you in advance, Old Master Yang."
"You both are working, you don’t have to do it, I can move it myself. Just clear out the cooking utensils from the kitchen in advance.
If I build it according to the drawn design, it will be ten yuan, including the bricks and cement."
Lu Jingqiu said, "That’s fine, do you have any tiles, Old Master Yang?"
"Yes, small white ones, are you using them to cover the countertop?"
Lu Jingqiu quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, we like cleanliness."
The old man smiled too: "You young people, educated ones, are all particular. I’ve done several homes where they used tiles on the floors throughout the house."
Lu Jingqiu said, "You can tile the floors inside houses?"
"Mainly the bathroom floors and half the walls. The kitchen has half-tiled walls as well, but it’s expensive. The bathroom alone is ten yuan, and the kitchen is another ten yuan. If you do all of it, that’s a month’s salary."
Not many would spend a month’s salary on room renovations these days, but Lu Jingqiu was willing to spend the money.
The couple also followed Old Man Yang to his small shed behind the hill to check out the tiles.
They were long and thin, quite attractive, but they required more labor. If only they were larger, it would be easier to instal.
However, this was all the old man had, and he said they were cheaper because he had relatives in the factory.
Jiang Nanzhou gave Old Master Yang a two-yuan deposit.
Waiting for him to come on Wednesday to help fix the bathroom and kitchen.
They had no other plans for the afternoon, so Jiang Nanzhou rode the motorcycle with his wife and child to the county town.
They planned to order a long table for Lu Jingqiu and a small desk for the child’s room.
They went directly to the furniture maker they had previously visited.
They ordered a two-meter table to be placed against the wall at the end of their bed so both could use it.
The child’s desk was already made, painted in a light blue finish.
The long table would take a week to complete, and they would have to pick it up themselves later on.
The total cost for both tables was six yuan, stools included.
After leaving the carpenter’s shop, Lu Jingqiu went to a bookstore to buy Xiao Cheng some exercise books, pencils, and paintbrushes.
In the bookstore, Xiao Cheng surprisingly discovered a "Do-It-Yourself" picture book, "Mom, they have this book here too, it’s just like the one we have at home."
Lu Jingqiu hadn’t expected to see it there; she checked the publication date and it was the latest issue, showing that it sold well even in the county town.
