The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL]-Chapter 375: Grill
Chapter 375: Grill
But maybe she didn’t have to worry so much, for her baby and these other kids still had that youthful glow.
And it was something she hoped they’d be able to keep as they shouldered more and more responsibilities at such an early age.
For even now, she was shocked at just what her son could do.
Okay.
Duchess Amelia wasn’t actually sure what it was that he was unveiling, and most of the others weren’t either. But Cece, beside him, looked too proud to ignore, so this must be something good.
"..."
Thankfully, Ollie beat them all to the punch as he gawked at the contraptions before them.
"Wow, brother! What are these?" He said as he looked up and down these metal things that looked similar to the insides of those ovens they had back in the kitchen.
"Ah, these are called grills, brother!" Luca said with a grin as his eyes turned into those crescents that people adored.
Clearly, his good brother was excited about this, and so Ollie just had to ask.
"Are we going to use these for today?"
"Yes! While we have a few pre-prepared items courtesy of the kitchen staff, many of the items on the menu would be cooked while we eat."
"WHAT?!"
Now, that sounded pretty novel to all of them who normally cooked first and then ate after carefully monitoring their food for a long time.
"See, these grills would be on for as long as we need them, and we could continue adding what we feel like eating!"
"Although we should probably cook a few things ahead so people have something to snack on while waiting." Explained Luca, who figured people would start looking for something to munch on, and decided to grill vegetables like corn and sweet potatoes.
"Then does that mean we can’t really cook right now, brother?"
Ollie was slightly disappointed because that meant he’d have to wait hours before seeing glorious food, only to learn that they did infact need to start preparations earlier.
"I think they’ve actually started. Because we decided to prepare boxed meals for the guards who need to be on duty."
"!!!"
Now, this was something that Cece worked on after Luca asked if it were possible to create metal boxes that could be reused as food containers.
And for some reason, the dwarf wondered why no one ever thought about something like this.
But maybe it was because people barely cooked, and nutrient solutions could just be stored in the packs they came in.
But Cece resonated with the metal lunch boxes so much that she decided to make a set for herself, too.
After all, what was the point of being an artisan if she couldn’t do something like this?
And oh, what a smart thing that was, for when she saw how it was going to be used, her only regret was not making more, or bigger ones!
Just like Ollie, who was eyeing the metal containers dangerously.
"Our fish dish for the day is actually grilled milk fish, and I think this would be easy to learn because it is quite similar to the baked fish that most of you are familiar with!"
It was quite similar, alright, but also very different, for when Luca started putting in other things inside, all the spectators rushed to copy.
But all of this was after Duke Leander managed to show off his fish cleaning skills to his wife.
It was a rare moment, one that Butler Gary, and Steward Han allowed him to have, as the Duke probably practiced this at the expense of aquatic life endangerment.
But it was his time to shine, as many of their new members hadn’t gotten a chance to cook or taste this thing called fish.
"Honey, I shall clean and prepare the fish for you! See, our son taught us before, and I have practiced a lot!"
"Oh, yes! Papa has done well with cleaning the fish and has been very helpful in decreasing the workload," confirmed the precious son, who was really thankful for all the help.
And the Duchess would’ve been really proud if not for her husband turning into this goopy mess after being praised by their son.
"..."
But she guessed that Leander was likely contagious as Ollie also volunteered for his parents while Kyle had been voluntold by his elder brother.
Meanwhile, off to the side, Xavier had been quietly cleaning several fish and stacking them to the side, close to Luca. He was precise, practiced, and didn’t waste time as he finished more and finished first in the same breath.
What a competitive spirit.
However, Xavier wasn’t really competing with anyone, for if he did, then there might be no fish left once he was done. It was just that he estimated the number of fish they’d need based on the number of people and thought that they’d probably need a bit more.
"Luca, are we also preparing the fish for the actual dinner? If so, do you have an estimate of how many we’d need so we can help prepare them?"
"We’re not familiar yet with the cooking part of it, but we could definitely handle preparing the fish first."
That got the little chipmunk looking off to the side as he smiled up at Xavier. He really appreciated this, but said that many of the fish had actually been cleaned and prepared earlier, and that these ones were for dinner and the extras people might want.
And that what they’d need more help with was with packing the insides of these fish with the prepared ingredients.
Luca then began showing him and the rest how simple this was going to be because the kitchen staff had really made life so much easier for them.
But for the sake of the new people, who had never seen such a demonstration, Luca started from the beginning.
Now, Marquis Mylor found all of this to be very novel. As a noble, he had, of course, seen and even tasted food, but none of those looked like this and required this kind of preparation.
In fact, many of those came as packaged goods that came out of containers. And had he not had a taste of such food before, he might have thought weirdly about this.
For his nose had never been in such overdrive with everything that he’s been smelling everywhere.
And it was a new sensation, one that even got him crying because this prodigal son of his didn’t warn him about cutting onions!
"Ow! Pop! It’s a rite of passage! You must also experience that to be legitimate!"
"Legitimate my ass! Do you want to be an illegitimate child?!" quipped the marquis as he almost bonked his son in the head.
"Tsk! Pop, you’ll appreciate the onions soon! They’re just like this for now, but when it’s cooked! Mmnnn~!"
"My brother usually lets us taste what we make, so you have to get it right, Pop!"
"Oliver, if I get this wrong, I will eat yours!" said the father, who suddenly thought that it would’ve been a good idea if the boy rested back at the medical bay!
But he wasn’t wrong about it being "Mmnn~" for when those juice tomatoes were brought out to be sliced, even Jax couldn’t help but whistle.
"Tomatoes can be placed inside?" asked the redhead, who was again seeing the light.
"Ah, yes, we actually have minced onions and ginger, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, salt, and ground pepper for the stuffings."
"Stuffings?"
Killian was wondering what that meant when Luca pointed to the middle section of the fish as he stuffed all those mixed ingredients.
"Just like that? We just push everything inside?"
"Well, not everything, but what could fit nicely, before we start wrapping the whole fish with aluminum foil!"
"Foil?"
Now that was another surprising thing, as a mecha cleaning material was suddenly taken out for cooking.
"Young Lord Luca, about the aluminum foil, we actually haven’t gotten to wrap most of them because it seems like there has been a shortage of it."
It was an unexpected report, one that Steward Han really didn’t want to broach right now.
"Oh no! Maybe we could just—" but before the concerned cook could continue, Xavier slid over a space button.
"This is...?"
"I remember buying a bit back then, so we should have enough aluminum foil for our needs."
But the little money-grubber’s eyes widened in surprise as he checked the space button because this, this was definitely not a bit!
"!!!"
"Brother, is everything alright? Is it not enough? If so, we could use some from the hanger."
"Oh! No-no need brother, this is more than enough."
More than enough to last them until the third lifetime! Even if they cook fish every day, it would probably be impossible to use all of this up!
"Xavier, why did you buy so much?"
Luca couldn’t help but ask as his hand holding the space button trembled in shock.
"Because the price of that thing would skyrocket the moment you decide to sell food that uses it."
"And if we wanted to make sure your supply won’t be interrupted, it had to be bought early and in bulk."
"Food that would use this...?"
"Yes, because I believe that the aquaponics complex would allow for that possibility. And we need to be ready for when the opportunity arrives."
"And more importantly, it was discounted." The corner of Xavier’s mouth hitched up as Luca’s face morphed into different expressions.
"Discount...? How-how much?" asked the little money-grubber hesitantly.
Xavier waited a bit as he stared at the little golden dragon, who looked ready to pop off in anticipation.
"Thirty percent off."
"!!!"
"Really?!"
"Really."
And the white-haired prince watched as his little wife bloomed like a flower in spring.
Ah. And years later, it would be known that this moment marked the start of the prince’s need to buy discounted goods.
