The Sole Prince of the Fallen Kingdom-Chapter 27. Harbinger of Death
Chapter 27 - 27. Harbinger of Death
"How's it still alive...?!" Aiden mumbled, assuming a bare-handed fighting stance, no matter how sloppy it might have been.
However, without caring about Aiden's thoughts, the Serpent lunged forward.
Its speed was almost double that of the moments before.
Shit!
Aiden tried to dodge by turning his body the moment he perceived the attack; however, he was nowhere near fast enough to evade the serpent's ruthless attacks.
The Venomous fangs of the Serpent scratched his right thigh, making him bleed while simultaneously risking getting poisoned.
"It's too fast—Ughh!"
Sparing no time wasting, the Serpent followed up by slamming its tail onto Aiden with insane speed.
And Aiden, having completely removed the Air from the vicinity, didn't have the wind swirling around him in protection, making him hit his back against a boulder extremely hard.
"Cough~ Uogh... It's Bad. Cough~ Real Bad." Standing by, supporting himself with his hands, Aiden said, while coughing up blood.
His vision became slightly hazy due to getting slammed into a boulder.
He also felt like there was something wrong with his backbone, but he could figure that out later.
Right now, his biggest concern was that he was barely managing to keep track of the White Serpents' movement, and the Snow all around them wasn't exactly helping him either.
Moreover, even if he found an opportunity to attack it, he had no weapon that could damage it with those scales as its natural armor.
I need a weapon—!
Rolling around the boulder to hide from another incoming assault of the Serpent of the Storm, Aiden tried to deduce a strategy.
He wondered if he could try using Water as a form of weapon, but neglected the idea after remembering that he couldn't freeze it into Ice due to being in the Ice Phoenix's territory, and neither could he pressurize it so much that it would cut right through the Serpent's scales.
He just wasn't that proficient in managing his magic.
Then what can I do?!—
SMASH
The Serpent smashed the boulder into pieces as its horrifying fangs dripping with venomous saliva came into his view.
HISS!
Separating its Jaws apart, the Serpent attempted to swallow Aiden whole, but Aiden, being quick on his feet, made a run for it after blasting water into its face.
He ran around as quickly as he could and made a run for it.
It didn't matter where he went; he just ran between trees, boulders, and occasional caves, however—
"Arggghh!"
—It appeared that the hope of outrunning a 20-meter-long serpent was a fool's errand.
A sharp stabbing pain crossed through his left leg, completely paralyzing him and making him fall to his knees.
He tried to feel the cause of pain, and found numerous white, scarlet-lined scales embedded near his calves.
This Bastard! It knows how to throw out its scales?! Why was its intelligence so low then?!
Lifting his gaze, Aiden saw the slow crawl of his approaching death.
The Serpent, though, didn't show its emotions like humans do, but Aiden could read an air of mockery as it slowly made its way towards him.
As if mocking him for his powerlessness.
As if mocking him, that despite taking out Air, he was still about to die before it.
And it would ensure that itself.
"I'm not dying here!!!!"
Aiden growled as he ran the gears of his mind in front of the approaching doom.
What can I do?
What can I do?
Anything I have in my Possession—...Ah!
That's it!
My Possession!
It's an energy that can be manifested into a weapon, isn't it?
Aiden, finally seeing a light in a completely dark night, managed to lift his lips a little in a crooked way.
"Manifest [Possession: Legacy of the Everharts] for..."
Muttering under his breath, Aiden paused in between his sentence.
...What is my desire to manifest it?
"For that, I need your power to..."
...Maybe I should say something noble? After all, Father wielded it before me.
"...build the Kingdom of Everhart again."
.
.
Despite muttering "his desire", nothing happened.
What? Why?
Why did it not manifest?
Why?!!!
[Host, You do not have to lie. It would only manifest to your truest desire.]
...? My truest desire— Ugh!
The Serpent wrapped its tail around Aiden's body stealthily when he was busy trying to manifest his possession.
Shit!
"Manifest [Possession: Legacy of the Everharts] for that, I need your power to... Ughh!" Aiden paused for a fraction of a moment as the serpent's grip tightened, making him feel his bones were getting twisted.
"...To defend myself!"
He screamed his desire as loudly as he could, but...
.
.
Nothing Happened.
Why—
Before he could even ask himself and try to reason through, the Serpent of the Storm opened its Mouth.
Its saliva burned Aiden's skin wherever it touched.
The inevitable only moments away.
Ahhhhh!!!!
C'mon, Manifest because I need you to Kill this damn Snake!!!!
C'mon!!
The Serpent jerked its head to swallow Aiden; however, right then, with a blinding light, a scythe was conjured in his right hand.
A scythe with a black snath and a crystallized crimson blade glistened with murderous intent.
Slight turquoise crystals were embedded, shining to an extent, as they reflected.
CLANK
The blade of the Scythe confronted the Serpent's Fangs, and as it produced a metallic clank, it broke the pointed edge of the fang.

*DING*
[No one has ever used this as their Weapon in the history of Everharts. Hence, the Host would not inherit an Art for the weapon.]

A Scythe?!
Seriously?
Though Aiden's mind wondered at the absurdity of the weapon manifested, he didn't mull over it too much.
"Let's get you some much ...Urghh!" Aiden put the shaft of the Scythe between himself and the Serpent's Body and freed himself from its grip.

"Now, Let's get you some much-needed rest..." Resting the Harbinger of Death on his shoulders, Aiden continued as various parts of his body bled and swelled due to the poison, "...Mr. Serpent."
HISS!
The Serpent, once again, lunged forward, but due to having more range than before, Aiden parried the Serpent's fangs with the blade and swiftly slashed its neck before it attempted to attack again.
The Crimson Blade of the Scythe effortlessly cut through the serpent's metallic tough scales as a scarlet blood fountain erupted, though it froze extremely soon.

[Refining...]
Numerous notifications started coming through his head, but now that his adrenaline rush had worn off, he collapsed, right on top of the Giant Serpent's head.
"Hahaha... God, that was Scary!" Aiden laughed in relief for some moments before the pain of the fight caught up to him.
"Ow! Ow! ...Let's patch up first." Making the Wind flow again, he tore and ripped the entire shirt he was wearing, washed it, and cleaned his wounds, slowly.
Carefully, he removed every single scale from his leg and wrapped the cloth around to control the blood loss.
After cleaning up everything, He wrapped the wind and water around his leg's nerves, trying not to let the venom get to his heart.
After finishing everything, he picked out one of the cocoa sticks from his magic bag and practically gulped it down like a liquid.
"Yawn~ ...Now, let's hope I don't die ...blink~... from poisoning." Having exhausted every single last bit of energy, Aiden's eyes fluttered shut as he lay on top of the Serpent's Skull.
However, before completely losing consciousness to the dream realm, he felt as if he saw something dazzling.
Something Ethereal.
Something Radiant shining some distance away from him.
...Ephy?
...No. Maybe it's just my hallucination.
