The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 313: Alix, who sold herself cheaply.
A new day dawned, and with it the inauguration of Zhang Bo arrived. The event was held at the hotel belonging to the Si family. The reason for the choice in venue was not just friendship. When it came to events related to the Zhang family, they always provided the best and knew just what to do with minimal supervision.
Because the Zhang group was among the twenty biggest and most successful companies in the country, this event was eye catching and it was talked about on the local news and internet more than the latest celebrity scandal. It was also blown wide because Zhang Bo was a famous retired actor.
Some fans that were yet to move on swarmed the venue, gathering outside with his banners, pictures and whatever merchandise they had with his face on. They chanted his name even before he arrived, making it almost seem as if he was arriving for a celebrity related event and not being introduced as the chairman of a company worth billions.
The hotel had been prepared for this and security was tightened all around the hotel and inside. This wasn’t done just to protect the Zhangs but also their guests. The former chairman had invited friends, dignitaries, board members, a famous erhu player and one pianist from abroad.
Guests arrived slowly, starting at midday as the event would kick off at the lunch hour. Some decided to eat something light before the event started, others found their seats and waited while others immediately started interacting with familiar faces.
Their arrival was captured by photographers and press that had been granted exclusive rights to cover the event. So, guests would walk on the red carpet leading onto a grand ballroom and pause for a picture before continuing in.
Alix was one of the early arrivals, and she was inside a hotel room where she was getting ready. Caishen was in a different room with Zhang Bo.
He didn’t leave Alix on her own of course, he stayed with her until Mo Qilu and other women from the Tai family arrived to help her get ready.
Currently, Alix was trying on a pair of shoes which her aunt Mo had brought. It was the third of the five pairs of shoes that had been brought.
She thought that she was the only indecisive person when it came to choices but these women proved to be no different. Each of them had a favorite choice and they defended it passionately.
"Do you think that you might be on the receiving end of too much love?" the system asked her.
She had asked one person for help and assumed she would be receiving one pair of shoes. Instead four women had come to her rescue with five pairs of shoes. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"There is no such thing as too much love in my life. I think it’s more of being overly blessed and compensated for the lack of love i endured as a child." She answered.
"Pretty baby, don’t space out." Grandma Tai shook Alix’s shoulder.
It was a trait they had all noticed in Alix, the habit of spacing out.
Auntie Mo held a pair of gold sandals with a four inch heel and straps before Alix. "Baby, you have one mother here and two aunts. Don’t bother with your aunts and go with mommy’s choice."
Aihuan couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She also had a feeling that the battle was lost and Alix was going to pick Mo Qilu’s choice. She dropped the shoes in her hands and sat down on the bed.
Majesty and Baby were napping on the duvet. She avoided them because Majesty was not a cat that enjoyed being woken up from his nap.
As she watched Mo Qilu help Alix put the shoes on she said, "I can’t believe you have played the mother card Qilu. You guys bamboozled your way into becoming her parents using food. You basically bribed her."
Mo Qilu was not bashful about it. The quickest predator got the prey in the jungle. She cared about Alix more than the rest of them and her husband often called and visited her. They treated her like a daughter while the others treated her as one would a niece, they cared but not excessively.
"My mother spoils me with good food." Alix bragged.
Aihuan tsked and laughed. "You are a foodie that sold herself cheaply and helped her abductor count the coins. My niece, how could one bento box buy you? At least you should have got a few luxury bags, cars, a house or even shares in one of her bookstores. Niece, let’s contact a lawyer, negotiate again and get a proper contract signed."
The two aunts and grandma Tai laughed while Alix just shook her head. What could she say, she wasn’t expensive. One bento box with home cooked food prepared with love without her request was all it took to make her fall for aunt Mo.
In truth, she did get along superbly with aunt Mo more than the two other aunts.
"Aihuan, don’t sell my daughter short, she is already wealthy on her own and she is not greedy for the money of others." Mo Qilu got to her feet and then observed Alix.
She adjusted a part of the dress and frowned. There was something missing, she just didn’t know what it was. All she was clear on at the moment was that the dress was beautiful but lacking.
Alix was worried as her plan was to dress to impress. A frown meant that someone was not impressed. "Mother, what’s wrong, don’t you like it?"
In her mind, a very judgmental system said, "Do you remember when that professor He asked you if you feel the need to impress your in-laws?"
"Not today, blue smurf." she answered.
She looked at aunt Mo with pressing eyes. She had a back-up dress which she hadn’t tried on yet. Time was still on her side. If this dress wouldn’t meet expectations, she was ready to divest herself of it and get another one.
"I think the dress is too plain and it’s also cold so you are going to have to cover up eventually." aunt Mo told her.
"It needs a brooch, a small chain, a flower or something up here." Grandma Tai pointed to the right side of her chest.
Adjustments were made and the women set out to turn Alix into the beauty of the ball.
Thirty minutes later, Alix was on the red carpet posing for a photograph next to Caishen and she waited patiently by his side as he answered a few questions and they went into the ballroom.
The entire time, she kept a hand on his shoulder and he kept his right hand on hers, covering it as he sent the occasional smile her way.
Among the reporters was one who didn’t work for financial news and he cared more about the brands of the outfits and their prices.
He also cared about the dates and company the famous guests had come with. He made sure to capture the secretive smiles, shy exchange of glances and nonstop hand holding. The article of his article later would be, ’Love is still in the air for newlyweds.’
