This Life, I Will Be the Protagonist-Chapter 652: Divine Game – Chaotic Blocks 43
Hearing her say that, both Nivalis and B8017913 exchanged a look—one of subtle awkwardness.
If they hadn't already interacted with a growing number of players, they might've actually joined Rita in her anxiety spiral.
Truth was, only playing one game in two hours was completely normal for most players.
Each game was like opening a loot box—unpredictable and often ill-suited to a player's specific strengths.
And for every winner, there was always someone who lost. In every Month Theme Park, the most cost-effective strategy for many was to play as little as possible, save their Blocks, and coast through.
People like Rita—who alternated between eating and gaming with nonstop momentum—were a rare breed.
Especially considering she wasn't just here to play games. She was also aiming to collect all nine pieces of a special item set.
Unaware of her pets' reactions, Rita finished adjusting her gear and jumped into the Star Pirate Ship to queue up for the ferris wheel.
She whispered,
"I'm heading to line up. Could you guys grab me some food? Something snacky like popcorn, but not popcorn. Get me two portions. Hide them in a Block and sneak them to me later."
Her stamina was down to 83. She hadn't even done much—just walked around October Theme Park a bit—and already lost that much.
She planned to bring food into the ferris wheel. This game was likely going to be a major stamina drain, and whether she could sustain her energy would directly affect how she played—and how far she could push the game mechanics.
The little robot snagged the Bumper Car hanging from Nivalis's wing, tapped it once, and resized it to match its own proportions. It jumped on like a pro and sped off to fetch snacks.
Nivalis didn't leave, though. She followed Rita like a faithful tail, hopping into the Star Pirate Ship and sticking with her until she dropped her off at the ferris wheel queue. Then she zoomed off to pick up the takeout.
As Rita began lining up, the Six-Tailed Moon Fox and the Owlcrow trailed behind her, persistent as ghosts.
Rita glanced back. Didn't these two have to report back to their bosses?
Couldn't use active skills, but still had remote contact? Were they able to private message through some kind of bond? Or was it just a racial perk?
Frustrated and curious, Rita opened the battlefield chat channel to see if anything useful had been said.
[☆Lania Kaia · Pine Tea]: Teacher! Ferris wheel!
[☆Lania Kaia · Mist Snow]: Teacher! Ferris wheel!
[☆Lania Kaia · Pine Tea]: Teacher! Ferris wheel!
[☆Lania Kaia · Mist Snow]: Teacher! Ferris wheel!
[Lania Kaia · Pine Bloom]: 1
[Lania Kaia · Mistblade]: Got it
Rita closed the channel without blinking.
So… good old-fashioned spam it is.
She privately messaged Nivalis:
"Make a note—Pine Bloom has spoken twice in battlefield chat."
Nivalis: "Huh?"
Rita: "Once with a question mark, once with a 1."
Nivalis: "That's some low-effort customer service..."
Rita: "But service nonetheless. And both were because of me, right?"
Nivalis: I'm seriously scared Lidian is going to flay her alive...
…
The queue moved slowly, but at least it wasn't long. Not many players were lining up for the ferris wheel.
The ferris wheel itself was massive—the largest attraction in Month Theme Park—featuring 60 cabins, each formed from a set of Blocks, perhaps representing the 60 units of time.
Though all the cabins were roughly the same size, each had a distinct Block style and color scheme, as if built by different designers.
Little Gingerbread collected the next ticket in advance, and whenever a cabin with only one player inside reached the bottom, it would shove the waiting player in.
Flower petals fluttered around as the wheel turned slowly, but the cabins swayed violently. Through the windows, flashes of fire, frost, lightning, and black flames lit up the interiors—skills being thrown in wild flurries.
Now and then, a player would be launched out of one cabin and arc through the air, diving through an open window into the next.
As Rita watched the wheel, strategizing for the battle ahead, she felt a momentary emptiness behind her.
She turned—and saw the Owlcrow behind her had changed.
Unlike the long-term student Owlcrow, whose wings were patched with at least eight fragments, the new Owlcrow's green Block wings had only four pieces—one already missing. A whole quarter of the wing gone. Who knew if it could even fly.
Rita stared at the gap in her wing, thinking how glad she was her wings were made of light.
Scanning the area for Pine Bloom's mechanical form, she spotted nothing. Still, she casually tossed out a greeting:
"Out for a stroll, huh?"
The new Owlcrow—Pine Bloom—was busy inspecting BS-Rita's Blocks.
Pine Tea had told her that BS-Rita had aimed some kind of Block card at the ferris wheel, then ducked into a corner to reconfigure her Blocks. Sadly, she hadn't seen what Rita actually did—just that she hadn't handed anything to her pets.
Was that Block card used to view the game rules? Or to measure compatibility between player and attraction?
But considering Rita adjusted her Blocks right after using it, it was probably the former.
Hearing BS-Rita's pointless chatter, Pine Bloom lazily replied with her own:
"Yeah, you too. Had dinner yet?"
Her eyes kept scanning Rita's body for clues.
Then she squinted and groaned, "Ugh. My eyes hurt."
Rita: …Did you have to say that?
Her Blocks were a mess—layered, chaotic, carefully arranged.
Her upper body was practically a ball of Blocks meant to hide items.
Her legs were stick-thin for easy movement.
And her head… comically small.
She looked like pixelated Gru from Despicable Me.
Just as Rita was about to lose it, Mistblade appeared.
Now every time Rita saw Mistblade, she thought of what B8017913 said—that Mistblade had once ranked #1 on the global ladder.
Mistblade met her gaze and smiled. "We meet again."
She stepped into the spot Six-Tailed Moon Fox had just vacated, lining up behind Pine Bloom. Then, like her colleague, she started scanning Rita's body up and down, side to side.
Clearly, she had received the same intel.
They probably guessed she'd used some reward to access the game rules and made preparations accordingly. What they didn't know was what those preparations were.
Rita: You two are being super creepy right now…
Their weird behavior caught the attention of the other players in line. Suddenly, everyone behind Rita started giving her the same intense, analytical stare.
Rita: "…"
After confirming that BS-Rita had nothing on the surface besides a single-lens eyepiece, Pine Bloom and Mistblade gave instructions to their students to take their spots in line. Then the two of them left to go adjust their own Blocks elsewhere.
Rita was pissed—but helpless.
She could cancel skills, reverse death… but she couldn't stop smart people from overthinking everything.
