39 -39: One Against Three

The largest haunted house in the amusement park, its only haunted house and by far the most popular attraction.

Many self-proclaimed brave individuals have been scared out of their wits in this attraction, which is even highly recommended online.

Gu Fan knew about this haunted house.

He had been inside once and knew that it drew a large crowd, but it felt particularly crowded today.

It seemed as if everyone was heading towards the haunted house, almost separating Gu Fan and Su Hui in the process.

Although Gu Fan and Su Hui tried not to get separated, plenty of people made it difficult.

With a sea of bodies obstructing their view, the young couple was nowhere in sight.

The suspicious men tailing them had also disappeared.

Knowing that something must be done, Gu Fan tugged Su Hui’s sleeve, indicating that they should take a new path away from the haunted house.

Su Hui was puzzled, but followed Gu Fan and saw where he was headed.

They reached a place with tables and chairs on the side of the road and climbed up to get a better view over the crowd.

A long line had formed at the entrance to the haunted house.

Gu Fan scanned the winding queues carefully, but could still not see Wu Fei and Chen Ying.

He began to worry whether they had already gone inside.

Frequent screams echoed from the haunted house, most likely from terrified visitors.

This raised the tension, but Gu Fan was too preoccupied to care.

He was worried.

“Where on Earth are Wu Fei and Chen Ying?

Have they gone inside the haunted house or somewhere else?

Damn it!” The more anxious Gu Fan became, the more his thoughts swirled.

Perhaps he was not personally acquainted with the young couple, but he hoped nothing had happened to them.

It was at this point that Su Hui noticed the three suspicious men.

They weren’t in line at the entrance, but were lurking near the exit of the haunted house.

It was clear Wu Fei and Chen Ying had indeed entered the haunted house.

“Right, we’ll wait for a bit.” Gu Fan and Su Hui decided to keep their eyes on the trio.

But time steadily clicked by and numerous visitors came out of the haunted house, yet there was no sign of Wu Fei and Chen Ying.

The trio of men waiting for them seemed increasingly impatient, looking left and right.

“What on Earth is going on?” Gu Fan and Su Hui were starting to think they had gotten things wrong.

Maybe the three men didn’t follow the young couple, maybe they were just wandering about aimlessly, and the couple had gone somewhere else?

Just then, one of the suspicious men stayed at the exit of the haunted house, while the other two joined the line at the entrance.

They entered the haunted house with the other visitors.

“Let’s wait and see!” Su Hui furrowed her brows, sensing that something might happen soon, while Gu Fan trusted Su Hui’s gut instinct.

After another fifteen minutes, the two men finally emerged from the haunted house.

They reunited with the third man who was waiting at the entrance, shaking their heads in what seemed like disappointment.

But something felt off to Gu Fan.

The duo had gone in empty-handed but came out carrying a bag, one strikingly similar to Wu Fei’s.

A sense of foreboding flooded Gu Fan.

Sharing a look with Su Hui, she immediately sprang into action.

She jumped off the table and bolted towards the three strangers.

“My god, she’s fast.” Gu Fan considered himself fast, but he could only close the gap gradually.

Watching Su Hui rush forward in full force, he sighed in admiration: she truly was a police officer.

The suspicious trio turned pale as they saw Su Hui dashing towards them.

Their immediate response was to take off running, showing their guilt.

“Stop, police!” Su Hui shouted, chasing after them.

She tripped up the last man with a swift kick, knocking him to the ground.

The other two men turned around to take on Su Hui, seeing their companion toppled.

Gu Fan just shook his head, having already foreseen the outcome.

One man seized Su Hui’s arm, trying to subdue her.

But Su Hui managed to twist away, using her free hand to strike his nose.

The man howled in pain and let go.

“Nice move!” Gu Fan applauded silently.

The third man was up next, swinging wildly.

To Su Hui, it was all just flimsy bluster.

She assessed the man’s attack range, backed off a little, stepped forward, and landed a solid kick, knocking him down.

Su Hui’s agile moves, a woman defeating three men, immediately drew gasps from the crowd.

People started taking out their phones to record the scene.

The trio might have been struck down, but they were young and sturdy and managed to regain their feet, launching another attack on Su Hui.

Gu Fan could only shake his head and mourn for them.

They should have just given up.

One man lunged at Su Hui, but she was faster, ducking down to dodge the attack.

Using her momentum, she grabbed his legs, spun around, and flipped the man over.

The second and third men launched their attacks in succession, but Su Hui managed to skilfully evade their attacks, not giving them the chance to corner her.

With an elegant combination of punches, she knocked out the second man.

Seeing how the tide of the battle was turning, the third man obviously became fearful.

He knew he was no match for her, but with so many onlookers, he couldn’t just back out.

Therefore, he gathered his courage to charge again.

The outcome was as expected.

Within minutes, Su Hui brought down the third man as well.

After claiming her victory, she subtly flicked her hair, her eyes filled with pride.

While Su Hui was dealing with the suspicious men, Gu Fan had made contact with Lin Xi and had got the phone numbers for Wu Fei and Chen Ying.

Alarmingly, both numbers were switched off when dialed.

Gu Fan got chills thinking about what that could mean.

With the situation controlled by Su Hui, Gu Fan came forward as soon as he realized the outcome was set.

He pointed at the three men and said, “You can stay silent, but anything you say may be used as evidence in court.”

Listening to him, Su Hui found it both amusing and exasperating.

She couldn’t help but retort, “Have you been watching too much TV?”

The three suspicious-looking men seemed bewildered, “What are you guys up to, beating people for no reason?”

“I’m sorry, but I’m a police officer.” As Su Hui spoke, she showed her badge.

Upon seeing it, the men had a flustered and guilty expression.

Looking at each other in confusion, they had no idea what to do.

One of them protested, “So what if you’re a cop?

Cops can’t just hit people for no reason.”

“This bag isn’t yours, is it?” Su Hui lifted the bag that had fallen on the ground and started interrogating them.

Meanwhile, the amusement park security, having been alerted to the disturbance, hurried over.

Su Hui identified herself as a cop and requested assistance from the security to investigate a case involving two potentially missing persons.

The security guards found it puzzling; The amusement park had been running smoothly since its opening, and now they were supposed to find missing persons?

However, they cooperated, not daring to question the police.

The three men hastily explained, “We found it in the haunted house.”

“Oh, really?” Su Hui’s tone suggested skepticism.

She continued, “If we manage to reach the owners, it’ll be a misunderstanding, and you’ll be off the hook.

But if the owners are mysteriously missing, you guys are the prime suspects.”

“What do you mean?

Why are we suspects if they’re missing?

You can’t just frame innocent people.” The trio seemed panicked, their growing anxiety betrayed their knowledge of something potentially grim.

Su Hui simply replied, “I’m saying you’re suspicious because if the owners are missing and the bag is in your hands.

I didn’t say you definitely did it.

Why are you guys so guilty?”

“Who’s guilty…” Despite their argumentative front, their voices trembled.

On the other hand, Gu Fan was trying to reach Wu Fei and Chen Ying, mobilizing Lin Xi and others, but to no avail.

Eventually, Gu Fan gave up.

He grimly shook his head at Su Hui — the bag was found, the owners were missing, their phones were switched off, and it was not just one but two of them.

No one knew what had happened to the couple.

Gu Fan rummaged through the bag.

Although he didn’t recognize any of the items in it, he believed fingerprints could confirm the ownership.

To confirm this, Su Hui had the amusement park announce over the speakers for the couple to come and claim their lost bag.

Despite several announcements calling for Wu Fei and Chen Ying by name, they failed to materialize.

If the couple didn’t respond to the calls, they either had already left the amusement park, or they had indeed gone missing.

But even if they had gone missing, whether they were still in the park was another question.

Gu Fan started worrying, “Sister Su, what if the two of them were knocked unconscious and then led out of the amusement park while they were still dazed?”

Su Hui nodded, “To lead two people out of the park unseen in broad daylight, some tools would be required for concealment.

Normal exits are prepared for visitors and have turnstiles for access control.

The remaining exits are special ones for large equipment and vehicles.”

At Su Hui’s request, a squad of police officers arrived at the scene.

Following her instructions, they began monitoring all exits, whether intended for visitors or for staff.

Despite everything seemingly being handled in a timely manner, Gu Fan felt it might be too late and feared they would end up empty-handed.

What troubled him more was how he would explain the situation to Lin Xi and why they had all franticly tried to reach Wu Fei and Chen Ying out of the blue.
