Chapter 47: Chapter 47 : Butterfly effect part 2

The lights went out suddenly, turning every room into a barely visible place. The nervous murmur of the nobles filtered from the corridor. Suddenly, a deafening roar shook the foundations of the building. I didn’t know what was happening, but something in the atmosphere felt unsettling. For a brief moment, I tried to find an answer in Aliana, but her silence indicated that she, like me, didn’t understand anything.

After what seemed like a few seconds as if she had made up her mind, Aliana’s silhouette in the darkened room seemed more assertive, with a soft tone she broke the silence.

-Cyan, I’m sorry to ask you this, but could you look after the princess while I find out what’s going on? - Her voice, though calm, had a hint of concern in it.

- Okay, be careful - I answered quickly.

-Thank you," he whispered, and at some point his footsteps stopped echoing, he had disappeared through the door into the hallway.

The darkness of the room enveloped us and the already uncomfortable atmosphere threatened to emperorate.

The princess, who until then had been watching silently, stared at me with a serious expression.

-Do you have a lighter? -she asked, her tone low, almost inaudible. Unfortunately, I wasn’t carrying anything that might be useful at the time.

I looked at her, sensing the oldness in her tone.

-I’m sorry," I replied, "I don’t have anything to help you.

She sighed, clearly annoyed, but her look quickly changed to one of determination.

-There is no other choice... -she muttered to herself. I didn’t want to use mana if possible, but... given the situation, it seems there is no choice.

With a sigh of resignation, she stretched out her hand barely visible in the darkness and recited, in a solemn runic tongue:

-ας είναι φως.... (let there be light)

A flash of bright energy should have arisen, but nothing happened. Her face puckered in confusion, and, for a moment, I wondered if she was trying to mock me. But upon closer inspection, I noticed that her expression reflected nothing but bewilderment.

-Huh? -She paused, looking down at her hands with a slight grimace of frustration. Did I make a mistake?

He spoke again, this time closing his eyes and concentrating only on his inner conscience, adding more emphasis, but the filtered mna from the song did not even echo in the darkness. Only silence responded to his failed invocation.

-ας είναι φως.... fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

The spell, this time uttered more forcefully, almost seemed to have screamed, tried again this one but the result remained the same. Seeing this, my mind began to connect the dots, something didn’t feel quite right. First a blackout and now it seems that the mana is blocked, everything is very strange.

It was then that, like a fleeting spark in the darkness, a strange idea flashed through my mind.

-Sealing scroll? -I muttered under my breath, not realizing that the princess was standing next to me.

She looked at me, her eyes reflecting the same bewilderment.

-If what I am thinking is true.... -I continued, my words now filled with one of distrust, "The mana in this area is completely blocked. Someone has attacked the auction...

The princess closed her eyes, as if processing my words. The situation was serious. "The sealing permine" was not a common tool; it was a form of runic magic capable of blocking the natural flow of mana in a designated region.

I looked around, trying to find something that could help us, but the room was still engulfed in the same darkness. The sound of chaos outside this room had already begun to filter in: distant voices, hurried footsteps, shouts of alarm. The auction was under attack and this was certainly no coincidence, it seemed meticulously planned.

My mind was overloaded with unanswered questions. Why now? Why the auction? Something seemed out of place.

-We have to get out of here," I said urgently, grabbing the princess’s hand. Her body, as stiff as a statue, tensed at the unexpected contact, but she quickly began to move, now looking completely worried, she knew that if we didn’t find a way to escape, the situation could become much more dangerous.

The corridor in front of us looked like something out of a horror movie, blood soaked the floor, leaving a dark trail of violence that mixed with the sound of screams around us, the bodies lying and piled up were a frightening sight, the princess was completely frozen, I could hear the heavy sound of her breathing, I squeezed her right hand tightly, indicating her that we had to move.

Wherever we passed, monsters were indiscriminately attacking people, we moved carefully so as not to be seen.

When we reached the second floor of the building, before our eyes a gigantic greenish portal was collapsing reality. From its interior came out the same creatures that were killing the people on the third floor; giant and corpulent orcs, their skin of a dull gray tone almost dirty and rotten, as if covered by a layer of wet ashes. Their musculature was grotesque and exaggerated, with bulging veins marking every part of their body, looking as if they were about to collapse. His every movement, marked with power and brutality. His eyes, completely black, were as if they were a lifeless shell.

The monster carried a gigantic battle axe, its blade covered in blood and chunks of flesh, as if it had been killing relentlessly for hours. Its fangs, large and fanged, protruded from a disproportionate jaw, a nauseating stench emanated from the place where it stood. His every step echoed with a rumbling sound, as if the ground was about to give way under his weight. His feet, huge and deformed, left deep marks in the ground.

The orc did not seem to have any intelligence. It was a creature that only moved by hunting and fighting instincts. As if it were a wild animal, it launched itself against any person that crossed its path. In the blink of an eye, a group of guards were tossed aside like rag dolls, their bodies crashing against the walls with a dull thud. Then ambushed by a huge mace that suddenly fell, some of those who did not move in time ended up with their heads completely smashed, their bodies falling, lifeless and inert. The scene was so grotesque that words could not describe the horror of the slaughter that was unfolding before our eyes.

In the distance, I could see another group of orcs coming out of the portal, each with equally repulsive characteristics, but none as imposing as this one, which was besieged by more than 10 guards and had already finished with half of them, this only complicated things. Chaos was breaking out, and not only from the orcs. Among the crowd of people there were some that had infiltrated, they moved like strange leftovers and had tattoos with an inverted cross of demonic aspect, their eyes completely red shining with pure evil. With quick and calculated movements, they killed without blinking, their presence was even more disturbing. It only took a quick glance to know that they were human "Djinns" who had made a pact with the demons, and now their souls were lost in the darkness.

These djinns were advancing, wrapped in a nibla’s cloak, slipping through the confusion and killing mercilessly. Their eyes, filled with an unquenchable thirst for blood, were in ecstasy as if a feast was taking place. They hunted not only for survival; they hunted for pleasure, for the desire to expand their power. Their mana, corrupted and dark, flowed through them, and it was the only thing that worked under the seal. You could feel it in the air. Their every move left a trail of demonic energy, as if the earth itself was entering a period of corruccion.

The noise of the carnage was deafening, and although the princess was clinging to my arm, her face pale with terror, trembling without stopping, the fear was evident in her eyes, I knew we could not stay there much longer, we must not be noticed by those bastards. The corridor was not safe, and as the creatures moved deeper into the building, the possibility of escape became more distant.

Suddenly, the giant orc that had led the charge turned towards us after killing the group of guards, though not unharmed, the marks on his body were more witty and greenish-tinged blood trickled from his wounds. Still, he raised his axe, ready to decapitate anything that got in his way. On his face, the only thing visible was an expression of pure fury and desire, there was no purpose, the pressure in the air increased, and I could hear the crunching of the bones of the victims lying beneath his feet. My mind was racing, looking for a way out, I had to get away from that thing and wait for the reinforcements to arrive, then maybe I would have a chance to survive.
