Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 387: The new school
Chapter 387: The new school
Justin’s disgruntled complaint quickly ended the conversation between Esong and Scarlet. He was even pounding on the window of the car, eagerly looking at the old school which had been renovated and looked brand new now.
Esong opened the doors, and Justin went out running. Scarlet hurried to go after him to ensure that he would disappear in the mixture of parents and students which was a rather large crowd.
"Slow down honey." she called.
"Mommy look, they painted avatar on the walls." he said back to her, loudly with his little feet carrying him to the walls.
He was not the only one, other young children that were his age were reacting similarly. The walls of the kindergarten section were colorful and different cartoon images had been painted on them. In addition to the images were numbers, holograms of galaxies, flowers. The children were running around from one end to another and hopeless parents were relegated to the role of by standers. They helplessly stood to the side and waited for the little ones to release their excitement.
Scarlet and Esong could hardly make it through the crowd because they were being stopped at every turn by eager parents who were excited to meet them.
"Governor Scarlet good morning."
"It’s nice to see you governor Esong."
"The school looks amazing governors, this is really wonderful work."
The guards had to step in and ensure that everyone kept a respectable distance from the governors.
"Parents, parents, please take your children to their classes and meet their teachers." Principal Peggy’s loud voice was heard all around. "New students should head to the registration center first for data caption and to receive their uniforms. No child will be allowed on school grounds without a uniform starting tomorrow. The school will provide breakfast and lunch for the children. If any child has an allergy or reason not to eat a specific food ensure to pass by the health office. We are also giving children school identity tags, please ensure that you child is registered for one before you leave. In the second week of the term, the student housing facilities will be open for children aged four and above. If you are interested there will be a tour of the facilities on the weekend. The school branches in London city are also open, if you want to take a tour or sign your child up. Thank you all for coming and we welcome you to the new school term."
As the voice repeated the same message over and over, parents grabbed their unwilling children and took them to the classroom.
Justin happened to be among the children who were unwilling to walk away from the interesting wall. Esong forcefully carried him in his arms and followed Scarlet’s lead to the classroom.
"Why does he become so stubborn when school begins?" she asked Esong.
"It’s the excitement." Esong told her.
His son’s legs were restlessly moving around and his body was wiggling. It was clear that Justin wanted to be put down so that he could walk on his own like his friends.
Reluctantly, Esong did as the little one wanted and Justin immediately shouted for his friend.
"Coco, Coco, look my mommy and daddy brought me to school." he shouted.
Coco, the little girl with blue hair and pink tips which Scarlet considered a bold hair choice by the child’s mother turned around and run to Justin. Both children embraced and held hands.
Coco’s mother had met both governors before and she smiled at them eagerly. She had the same color of hair as her daughter now, blue and pink tips.
"Lady Scarlet, governor Esong, do you want to sit together?" she asked.
’Yes, we would like that." Scarlet answered.
To avoid unwanted attention, they sat at the back, in corner seats. The children did not sit with their parents, a teacher sent them to another room away from their parents.
"These chairs are too small." Esong whispered to Scarlet.
They were short too, he felt very much like a giant sitting on a chair which was meant for a child.
"Of course they are, the chairs are meant for children." she whispered back.
He touched his abdomen suddenly and whispered to her, "Now that I am sitting idle, it’s beginning to hit me that I am hungry."
"Haven’t you eaten anything?" she asked him.
He shook his head, meaning that he was hungry. She got some biscuits and banana flavored milk from her storage space and gave them to him. Out of politeness, she offered some to Coco’s mother who did not turn her down.
She herself had not eaten, and so she opened some cookies and chocolate milk. She was about to eat a cookie when Esong took one of her hands and held it in his. She laughed, and allowed him to do as he pleased. She could eat with one hand anyway.
In twenty minutes, the room filled up and the teacher Penny entered the classroom.
"Hello parents, I am teacher Penny, the homeroom teacher for your children. This meeting will be held at the beginning and end of every school term. Our goal is to make sure that we teachers and you parents can work together to coordinate and create a positive school and home environment of the children. We are also receptive to your questions, suggestions and complaints. Just before we begin I want you all to be aware that there is a GBCS officer in the room with us. If you have any issues related to your child’s safety, you can approach her."
While she spoke, Scarlet wondered what possible complaints any parent could have but alas, she was wrong.
Bubu’s mother was among the first parents to raise her hand and complain.
"Last year, the school provided meals but the food portions given were so little. My child always came home hungry as if he had been starved. Is the school trying to starve our children?"
Scarlet rolled her eyes, thinking about Bubu who looked like a round ball now because his mother was over feeding him. This was being gluttonous, unnecessarily gluttonous.
"Madam, the food portions for the children have been determined according to the hospital’s suggestion of what is quantified as sufficient food for children at their age. As they grow older, the quantities are determined per child according to weight, height and physical activity. I can assure you that no child is being starved here. However the school allows parents to pack snacks, foods and drinks for their children. If what we provide is not enough then you can supplement what we provide with something from home."
"That answer is not good enough, my Bubu lost weight last term because of poor feeding. If the other children need to eat less that is your business but my Bubu should be given double portions of what others receive." The woman shouted at the teacher quite rudely.
"Is she fattening him up for slaughter?" Esong whispered to Scarlet.
Scarlet guffawed and the parents closest to them turned around. On realizing that it was the two governors, they smiled or bowed awkwardly and turned back to the front.
