Chapter 398: Forever

It was not so often that the three gods who ruled the underworld realm gathered together for two days in a row.

These circumstances were unusual and the reapers who knew about it were quick to share their suspicions with others.

The biggest guess for most, was that it had to do with the small world competitions of this year.

Was something about them meant to change? Would the worlds be increased? Or perhaps it was the number of invitations.

The gods were unfazed by all the rumours because they were quite sure that their secret was well hidden.

This same secret had brought them together, closer in a way that they had not been in the last ten centuries.

They were in the palace of the god of death, a place that was not frequented by reapers.

It was the biggest of all places in the underworld and unlike the others, it was above the skies as if it was in a separate world.

It hung up side down, inverted to the common eye and it was surrounded by miles and miles of sand, mountains, oceans, black soil but all of it empty land.

The palace was no different, it was just as empty as the land around. In the middle of the palace was a throne of the god of death which was large and mighty, with images of hounds on the arms and tip.

It had three sharp barbs at the top, and three crows sat on them.

The eyes of the crows moved around, following the movement of whoever was in the palace.

"I hate this place, I know that I am a god but it just feels off even to me." Goddess Carnelia said.

"You are free to leave Carnelia I am not chaining your feet to my palace. You walked in here all on your own." The old deity answered.

"That’s because I don’t want you two keeping anymore secrets from me. We are in this together, right?" Goddess Carnelia replied.

"We are not hiding secrets we are discussing what to do about Scarlet’s distrust in us. She is looking for ways to block her thoughts from the deities. We are the deities she is looking to keep out." Lythia looked at Carnelia with irritation and then the crows and she moved her finger back and forth in a playful way.

Carnelia gave Lythia a disdainful look and she said, "We would not be in this position if you two had simply told her about her condition."

"No," the old deity stepped in and gave Carnelia an unhappy look. "We would not be in this situation if you had not blabbed about the pregnancy. If she goes around looking for answers everything will fall apart.

Look around Carnelia, this realm is devoid of life. All that we grow comes from death and all our reapers are dead creatures.

This is our chance to get rid of my brother’s curse. We can rebuild the underworld.."

Carnelia interrupted the old deity loudly and said with a scoff, "And then you will try to wage war against the god of life with the natural born reapers because they are the only equals to his angels in battle strength. This petty feud between you two is getting old.

Give it up already, just be happy that life has returned to the underworld. Enjoy it, and savor it, we can finally see children again here. We will be able to see something beautiful other than the darkness of this place. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us you bastard."

"Don’t you love war more than I do?" The old deity asked her.

"I love little children more." Carnelia said seriously. "And if you plan to use hers in anyway I will be the first to tell her."

Back on earth, Scarlet and Esong had just dropped Justin off at school and they were on their way to the space port.

It was almost time for him and the team which would be heading to the sky station to leave.

Throughout the short journey, Esong was clingy and he refused to let go of Scarlet’s hand.

The AI of the car was driving, giving him more opportunities to get handsy with her.

"I don’t want to go." He whined.

"We both know that’s a lie." She told him.

He would probably die of boredom if he did not do something other than training and sitting around.

Additionally, he would worry too much about the safety of the empire not to monitor what his men were doing.

"Maybe you should come with me." He suggested.

She laughed and slapped his hand lightly. "You are nuts, what would I do up there? And our son, he has school, we can’t both be absentee parents."

Esong looked up as if he was contemplating on what she had said. Then he snapped his fingers and said, "He can take classes on star net. We can homeschool him, many normal families do it for their children."

He poked her in the waist and she jumped up, then laughed.

"Stop," she drawled.

"But you don’t want me to stop." He answered and he did it again.

She hissed leaped on him and started her own tickle session.

Unfortunately, he was like a brick, completely devoid of ticklish feelings in his waist.

"You are no fun." She slapped his abdomen and raised her body with the intention of getting off of him.

She was practically sitting on top of him very inappropriately.

Esong put his hands around her waist and tightened them, refusing to let her go and he forced her to sit down.

He used his right hand to hold her head up by the chin, forcing her to look into his eyes.

Their eyes locked in an intense gaze, one that filled Scarlet with shyness and made her heart beat in unevenness.

She looked away from him, but he dragged her face back and made her look at him again.

His hand touched her face, trailing from her forehead to her lips with his fingers slowly. She moved her face involuntarily, craning her neck and following the direction of those fingers.

"I could stare at you forever." He said in a soft voice.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she caught her breath. Forever, the word resounded in her head, over and over.

Forever was such a long time, it was more than two hundred fifty years.

What was forever when it came to them? Was it the human years or would some miracle see to it that he became a grim reaper too and they could be together forever truly.

That was a dangerous thought to even dwell on for a single second. That kind of thought was what led grim reapers down the dangerous path in the first place.

For them, forever would have to be the human years and when he died, she would reap his soul and bid him farewell.

Or it could be more, a voice whispered in her mind. You don’t have to bid him farewell.

He pulled her head down suddenly and she lost track of that voice. The only thing she could be certain of was that it was not hers.

Later, she would tell Severus about it later, not now when her lips were being nibbled on.

Esong’s tongue licked her lips and forced her mouth open, ensnaring her into a passionate and desperate kiss.

He gripped her hands tightly, as if to trap her so that she could never escape from him.
