Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 404: I see it now_
Chapter 404: I see it now_
The group set off for their mission immediately, wasting no time. The instructions given to them by Cipher were simple, shake the snow globe three times and you would appear in Nordem.
Scarlet watched the others do it first, and then she shook hers after watching them disappear.
She was sucked into the globe, and felt a huge gust of wind that throwing her around like a leaf in every direction it desired and then suddenly, her feet were on the ground and the globe disappeared.
Looking around, her eyes searched for the other reapers, but she could find none. All she saw was Severus who was sneezing like someone with allergies.
"Where is everyone?" she asked him.
Achoo, he sneezed when he tried to reply.
"Are you ill? Do hounds fall ill?" she asked in a puzzle of the situation. Rather than wait around idly, she went to the forum for answers.
On the forum, in a group that had been formed for the guardian reapers on the mission, she saw the others and they were just as confused as she was.
It seemed like everyone had assumed just as she did that they would end up in the same place.
Cipher appeared in the group and he immediately said, "Calm down, we have been separated because we will search faster on our own and cover much ground quickly rather than as a team in the same place. If you are lost or unsure of where you are, just follow the energy of another reaper or return to the realm."
Everyone relaxed and the uncertainties were quelled for the moment.
Cipher went on to add other reminders in a grave tone. "So, communicate where you are in the group, share pictures and information. If you are in trouble, return to the realm if you cannot find another reaper. Keep in mind that this world is swarming with all sorts of evil creatures and be careful.
"Alright, good luck everyone." someone said.
One after the other, they left the group after wishing each other luck.
Scarlet looked at Severus, he was done sneezing it seemed.
"Are you fine now?" she asked him.
"Next time, I am travelling in the soul gourd." he shook his head like a dog shaking water off it’s body after a bath. "How do I look?" he asked her.
"Your eyes are red and uhm, your tail has moving teeth or spikes, I don’t know." she answered.
She had certainly not seen that before on him.
He shook his body again and whatever was on the tail disappeared.
"Nothing weird about that at all." Scarlet whispered.
"Where do we begin?" he asked.
Scarlet looked at the world that they found themselves in. At first glance, every building within sight had been reduced to rubble. A serious fight had taken place here, and it had left devastation in it’s path.
Smoke hang heavy in the air, almost obscuring the sun itself as shades of gray dominated the sky.
From where she was, Scarlet could hear the echoes of mournful cries of women, men and children. She also heard the jingle of chains and the roar of vehicles.
Because her sense of smell sharpened, she could smell fear in the air. It was everywhere, from every crook and cranny of this place rising like steam from the earth.
This was a brutal world with many scars and a lot of pain.
"I thought the Blue star had it bad back then but boy was I wrong." she murmured. This world was almost a depiction of what earth had turned into at the beginning of the apocalypse.
Severus snuggled rubbed himself against her legs and he said, "Now you see why we have homes in the underworld. Some worlds are even worse than this, so terrible that grim reapers prefer not to dwell there."
"I do see it." she concurred. If this was the world she been assigned to then she would have already bought a house in the Dark rune village or any other village in the underworld.
"Was all this caused by the artifact of the god of strife or did it just amplify what was already a bad situation?" she asked him.
"Probably amplified." Severus suggested.
This much devastation had to be years or months in the making, the artifact had not been here for more than two weeks.
"Where do you want to begin?" he asked her.
She thought about it for a minute and then said, "A bar, water hole, tavern, whatever or wherever it is that alcohol is served. Cipher did say that the god of strife lost his artifact when he was drinking.
Why a god would choose to drink from a world like this is beyond my understanding."
There were far better worlds, beautiful ones, peaceful ones, worlds without chaos like this.
"I think this must be his world." Severus suggested. "That or an abandoned world that will soon be wiped out of existence. Such a world is fair game to all gods, they can play with the beings that live there as they please."
Scarlet’s hand went to her stomach and she rubbed it when Severus said, ’play as they please.’
"How are they?" he asked her.
"I don’t know." she answered.
She did not feel them no matter how hard she tried, and hardly knew if they were real or not. The fear that she would wake up one day and they would be gone before she even had a chance to know them grew more each day. It was the reason for her weepy state so often lately. When Fey mentioned that she had her crying in the Sun room, it was because of that fear.
She shook her head, waking herself up and closing the dark door which threatened to pull her in.
"Let’s go." she said in a small voice.
She used her nose to track the smell of alcohol in large quantities. What she seemed to be tracking more were dead souls.
At level four, she could loudly hear what the souls said, their pleas not to be reaped and their regrets. Here on Nordem, dead souls where everywhere one turned.
It was probably a feast for soul eaters, they had to be feasting like kings.
She opened her soul gourd, sucking in every soul that came her way, irrespective of whether they had regrets or not. The underworld was safer for them than this world.
While she did her duty, the three deities kept an eye on her, they looked in on her through a mirror in Lythia’s place.
"See, she is perfect. She did not even stop to listen to the sob stories of all those souls. That Scarlet would have made a fine warrior reaper." Carnelia assured them. freeweɓnøvel.com
Lythia let out a snort and waved her hand, taking away the image of Scarlet and moving to other reapers. They too were hers and she had to check in on them.
"I don’t understand why we just don’t bury that world and call it a day. We don’t have enough reapers to handle the situation and it’s going out of control." Carnelia continued to talk even though she was being ignored by the others.
"It’s why we sent the walking refiner." The old deity told her. "She has dealt with sixty souls in just five minutes."
"Aah, so wise and easy." Carnelia shook her head and praised her brother for his foresight. "Remember to send her when it’s time for me to wrap up some of my worlds."
Again, the others simply ignored her, and she sighed, then vanished.
"I really hope that she doesn’t cause any trouble." the old deity spoke in exhaustion like a father with a child who just wouldn’t behave.
There were other duties to fulfil, so he left as well.
