Transmigrating to Modern Earth from the Future-Chapter 60: Level 20
Chapter 60: Level 20
Just as Lumen had taunted the beast with, it was dead within five minutes of it launching it’s powerful charged attack.
In fact, the Elite beast had probably used up most of its strength with that one attack, as it only took Lumen 3 minutes of his promised 5 to end the wolf’s life. It barely fought back because it simply didn’t have the strength to do so.
’Not even level 17 Elites are enough to take me out, especially with my Epic rank Arcane spear!’
Many factors of this fight led to a completely different outcome compared to his fight with the level 12 Elite he had fought weeks prior.
The most notable being that his main weapon, his spear had gone from a common tutorial spear to an Epic rank spear, boosting his physical combat power exponentially, as well as adding a pseudo spell to his arsenal with the magic attack that came attached to the spear.
Not to mention the fact that in this fight, it was Lumen that was the higher level of the two rather than the other way around, with little disparity in strength between the two parties.
When he plunged his spear into the Elite for the final time before it breathed it’s last breath, the awaited moment came to Lumen which he had been anticipating since he had first experienced it when he reached level 10.
[Ding! Killed level 17 F tier Elite Rabid wolf.]
[Ding! You have levelled up
Received +5 Intelligence, +5 Wisdom, +5 Agility, +5 Strength, +5 Endurance, +4 Perception, +3 Willpower +6 Unallocated stats.]
The miniscule amount of experience left on his experience bar to level 20 had been filled with the death of the level 17 Elite wolf, even taking him up to 50% through his next level to level 21.
But this wasn’t what he had been waiting for. The real reward he had been anticipating was coming next.
[Spear Magister skills available.]
He was finally given his second opportunity to gain another skill!
Immediately, the list he had been waiting for showed up in front of his eyes. Lumen hoped and prayed for a good selection of skills this time.
[1. Shadow Blink (Rare) - Shadow Blink is an ancient variant of the original spatial spell used by spatial mages since the beginning of time. Allows for the mage to teleport to any dark or shadowed spaces around them within a range starting at 15 metres at level 1. Shadow Blink does not require the use of any external magic tools or equipment and only requires a basic affinity with the darkness element to use, but the skill’s level can be upgraded through constant use, increasing its range. Mana cost: 300 MP.]
It seemed that his first choice was an upgraded version of the Inferior Blink he had been presented with in his previous skill selection, this one being at the Rare rank while the inferior version was at the uncommon rank.
This skill in particular though already suited very much to his needs, especially the fact that it was attuned to the darkness element, which was perfect for the dungeon he had been exploring for the majority of the tutorial.
The only thing that gave him a little bit of concern was it’s requirement of a darkness affinity, though he presumed that he met that requirement since the system was offering him the skill. He doubted it would be so unfair to offer him a skill he couldn’t use... right?
[2. Spear Bash (Uncommon) - A spear technique used to use the butt of his spear to forcefully push the enemy, causing major knockback to the target depending on the strength of the user. Increases the spear’s durability slightly, provides a 5% increase in knockback power]
’Utterly dogsh*t!’
Lumen’s smile twitched slightly when he read the description of this second skill. Clearly this one wasn’t for him. He didn’t even want to continue looking at it any longer as he glossed over it completely to read through the third skill.
[3. Concussive Strike (Rare) - A technique used by many lower level spear warriors of the Fantasia Realm to focus all of their body’s strength at the tip of the spear to produce an explosive and shocking strike. Provides a 50% increase in explosive damage upon use, +10% chance for a critical strike when striking critical points. Rapidly drains the user’s stamina after consecutive uses.]
’Another good skill!’
This third option was also a very good skill for Lumen. Most of his current skills were focused around mana, which could be both a boon to his success but also a crutch. If he encountered a situation where he ran out of mana in the middle of a fight and was left with only his spear to defend himself, a skill like this would come in very handy and would increase his power by 50% right off the bat at level 1!
However the side effect of rapidly draining stamina made him hesitate over choosing this one as it wasn’t very specific at how much one could use it consecutively, as well as the fact that the system didn’t provide a quantifiable stat for his stamina like his Mana and health, he felt it too risky to rely on a skill he didn’t know he could trust his life with.
[4. Stealth Camouflage (Rare) - As many successful hunters of the past have demonstrated, stealth is a very powerful and impressive method to hunt prey. Grants the ability to hide one’s own mana and presence completely from any being below the D tier.]
Contrary to the other skills he had been presented with, this skill was a supportive skill rather than a combat focused skill like the prior three he had been presented with. He considered the pros and cons of choosing this skill and while it did seem useful, especially in hunting more intelligent beings like Humans, it didn’t seem quite as good as his other options.
Perhaps if the skill showed up again at another skill selection when he was out of the dungeon and at danger of human attacks in the forest, he would consider choosing this skill.
[5. Expert digging (Uncommon) - A skill honed by many fossorial beasts to enhance their digging skills. Gains the ability to dig faster, farther and deeper than one normally would. +50% digging speed, provides a minor affinity with rare ores, increasing the chance of finding them.]
’...’
’F*ck this scam of a system...’
Lumen was speechless at the fifth option he was provided with.
