Transmigrating to Modern Earth from the Future-Chapter 94: Retribution
Chapter 94: Retribution
Lumen moved swiftly through the ruined village, his heart heavy with sorrow and his resolve unwavering. He approached each of the entrances that had been blocked by the group of people from Earth. The time for negotiation had passed; he knew that their intentions were hostile, and he could not allow them to endanger his home any longer.
At each entrance, he inspected the level of the individuals responsible. It was a grim task, but one that needed to be done. He had to ensure that the threat was eliminated completely.
With a single, precise blow, he dispatched each one, their lifeless bodies falling to the ground. Lumen felt no joy in their deaths, but he understood the harsh reality of their new world. Survival often demanded ruthless actions.
As he moved through the village, the first group he had encountered at the entrance had recovered from their stupor. They looked up in shock as Lumen approached, their eyes widening with fear. They had seen what he was capable of, and they knew that their lives hung in the balance.
Lumen spared no words as he delivered swift and deadly justice. One by one, he ended their lives, leaving only the big burly leader standing. The man trembled, his bravado shattered by the carnage that surrounded him.
"Why?" Lumen asked in a cold, unforgiving tone. "Why did you do this?"
The burly man swallowed hard, his eyes darting around as if searching for an escape. "I was ordered to," he finally admitted, his voice quivering. "My boss, she’s just down the road, waiting to take over what’s left of the village."
Lumen’s mind raced, and then it clicked. This was the same group he had encountered on the road, the ones who had questioned his experiences in the tutorial. They had orchestrated this attack, driven by greed and a thirst for power.
With a grim determination, Lumen finished off the burly man. There could be no loose ends, no chance of retaliation. He left the entrance, his senses alert as he headed toward the location where the boss was said to be waiting.
It didn’t take long for him to find them. The second group, who had demanded an entrance fee, had their leader standing at the forefront. It was the woman who had spoken first, her expression now one of shock and fear.
Lumen approached her, his steps measured and deliberate. He knew that this woman had been the mastermind behind the attack on his village. She had underestimated him, just as the others had. They had all paid the price for their greed.
"Why did you attack the village?" Lumen asked, his voice chillingly calm.
The woman stammered, her confidence shattered. "We needed supplies, and we heard this village had them. We didn’t think you’d put up a fight."
"You needed supplies, so instead you killed every last person there? Yeah, I’m not buying it lady, my patience is running thin, tell me your true intentions now."
Lumen studied the woman as she stammered through her explanation. Her trembling form and nervous glances betrayed her fear. She had underestimated him, believing that their group could easily overpower his village. But they had clearly miscalculated.
"Supplies," Lumen repeated in a tone that sent a shiver down the woman’s spine. "You attacked an entire village for supplies?"
The woman’s gaze darted around nervously as she struggled to maintain her composure. "We... we were desperate. We heard rumours that this village had stockpiled food, medicine, and weapons. We thought it would be an easy target."
Lumen’s eyes narrowed, his patience wearing thin. He took a step closer, his imposing presence making it hard for the woman to look away. He reached out and grabbed her wrist, her eyes widening in fear.
"You thought it would be easy," Lumen murmured, his grip tightening on her wrist. "But you didn’t consider the consequences, did you?"
With a swift, deliberate motion, Lumen twisted her wrist, causing a sickening crack to fill the air. The woman screamed in agony, tears streaming down her face.
"Why did you attack the village?" Lumen asked again, his voice unyielding.
The woman gasped for breath, her broken wrist throbbing with pain. "We... we were ordered to. Our leader, Victor, he told us to take the village. He promised us safety and supplies."
Lumen released her wrist, letting her cradle it in her undamaged hand. He stepped back, his expression unreadable. "Where can I find this Victor?"
The woman hesitated, her fear warring with her desire to survive. She glanced at her broken wrist and then back at Lumen, realising that her cooperation might be her only chance at mercy.
"He’s not far," she admitted, her voice trembling. "He’s waiting for us about half a mile from here, deeper into the forest. He said he’d meet us once we secured the village for him."
Lumen had the information he needed. He turned away from the woman, his mind already racing with a plan to confront this Victor and put an end to the threat to his village.
As he walked away, leaving the woman to her pain and fear, he couldn’t help but wonder how many others like her had been manipulated into committing acts of cruelty in this unforgiving world. But his priority remained clear—to protect his home and the people he cared about, no matter the cost.
Lumen’s eyes bore into her, his anger suppressed but still simmering beneath the surface.
"You made a mistake. You didn’t account for me."
With a single, swift motion, Lumen ended her life, leaving her crumpled on the ground. The threat had been neutralised, but he knew that more challenges lay ahead. His village had suffered, but they would rebuild, stronger and more resilient than ever.
Lumen had nothing left to linger around for in this village, his only tie to it through the Hunter’s guild being severed, and yet he couldn’t just leave these poor villagers to lie in their graves, unavenged.
With heavy steps, he set off in the direction the woman told him about, his eyes unwavering.
