Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 885: One Step Away from Catching the Criminal
Chapter 885: Chapter 885: One Step Away from Catching the Criminal
Gao Zhitao said smugly, "Not to brag, but I stroll around here a few times every single day. In this building, I even know where all the trash cans are."
"Aren’t you a cop? What are you wandering around here for?" Xiang Yu asked suspiciously.
Gao Zhitao laughed awkwardly and quickly changed the topic, "What exactly are you looking for? I’m sure I can help."
"A bomb," Xiang Yu said bluntly, not bothering to hide.
"Haha, buddy, you’ve got a great sense of humor. You came here this late at night just to mess around, huh? How about this: I know where their safe is. Let me take you there instead," Gao Zhitao chuckled sheepishly.
Xiang Yu was at a loss for words. A guy like this being a cop was an absolute farce.
"I’m not interested in money. I already warned you: either leave now or don’t interfere with me," Xiang Yu said and began heading outside.
Seeing Xiang Yu’s serious expression, Gao Zhitao reluctantly followed him, saying, "Buddy, stop joking around. What’s a thief like you doing looking for a bomb? How about this: I’ll treat you to a drink."
Xiang Yu ignored him and continued wandering around the mall.
Gao Zhitao trailed behind, chattering endlessly. It was clear this guy had a gift for gab.
"I know a place stacked with beautiful women, and they’re all dressed super provocatively. Problem is, you need a Level 5 membership to enter. Lucky for you, I happen to have a card! What do you say? Wanna go together and enjoy the view?"
Unbothered by Xiang Yu’s silence, Gao Zhitao kept talking, "Don’t underestimate this membership card. It’s not something ordinary folks can get their hands on. I went through hell and high water to snag one. Inside, it’s a sea of stunning beauties. You see someone you like? Just go for it—no need for small talk."
Xiang Yu was utterly speechless with someone like Gao Zhitao. This guy was clearly a natural at befriending strangers. It was their first meeting, yet he’d already launched into such lively chatter. If the situation weren’t so serious, Xiang Yu might have indulged him and had a proper conversation.
Gao Zhitao showed no signs of stopping, following Xiang Yu wherever he went.
Just as they were about to head up to the fourth floor, Xiang Yu suddenly turned around and clamped a hand over Gao Zhitao’s mouth, gesturing for him to be silent.
Gao Zhitao stared wide-eyed in shock, thinking for a moment that Xiang Yu might have ulterior motives toward him.
The two hid behind a clothing rack, waiting silently. Just then, a figure descended the stairs from the fourth floor.
It was too dark to make out the person’s face, but it was clear they were wearing a baseball cap. Their build was medium, slightly overweight.
From the silhouette, Xiang Yu immediately recognized it was Ren Baohe.
Seeing the person come down the stairs, Gao Zhitao froze in shock. He had been so engrossed earlier that he hadn’t paid any attention to his surroundings.
Gao Zhitao tried to rush forward, but Xiang Yu pulled him back.
"What are you doing?" Xiang Yu glared at him.
"That guy definitely saw everything just now. I need to tell him not to spill the beans," Gao Zhitao whispered back.
Xiang Yu was at his wit’s end. This guy seriously thought he was someone important. The man didn’t even know him, so why would he care about his business? Even if Gao Zhitao asked him to talk, the guy would likely ignore him.
"Stay here and don’t move," Xiang Yu said sternly before stealthily moving forward.
Tonight was an excellent opportunity to capture Ren Baohe. This man was a major threat to the city and had to be stopped.
In the army, Xiang Yu was a champion of solo missions—a master of both hand-to-hand combat and tracking.
Quietly, he approached Ren Baohe. The suspect wouldn’t notice him at all. When Xiang Yu was just three meters away and ready to act—
Suddenly, Gao Zhitao sneezed loudly. The sharp, piercing sound echoed through the silent night, likely audible across the entire floor.
Ren Baohe reacted swiftly, drawing a gun and firing toward the direction of the sound.
Spotting Xiang Yu, Ren Baohe fired another shot, immediately pointing the gun at him.
Xiang Yu acted decisively, rolling to the side while pulling out a knife he’d been carrying.
Ren Baohe didn’t waste time; he hurled a small, round object toward Xiang Yu. Realizing what it was, Xiang Yu rolled away just as it struck the ground and exploded with a sharp "bang."
It was a miniature bomb.
While its explosive force wasn’t strong enough to injure Xiang Yu, it set nearby clothing ablaze.
By the time Xiang Yu got up, Ren Baohe was gone. Without chasing after him, Xiang Yu moved quickly to isolate and extinguish the burning clothes.
With Ren Baohe gone, it was clear he had already planted bombs somewhere in the building.
Just as Xiang Yu put out the fire, Gao Zhitao emerged from his hiding spot, looking at Xiang Yu in stunned disbelief. "You weren’t joking—there really are bombs here!"
Xiang Yu ignored him. If it hadn’t been for this guy’s interference, he might have already captured Ren Baohe.
Ren Baohe’s escape now meant even greater danger ahead.
"Stay out of my way and shut up," Xiang Yu snapped, though when he noticed Gao Zhitao was injured, he stopped short of hitting him. He gave him a stern look and went upstairs.
The fact that Ren Baohe had come down from upstairs indicated there were likely bombs placed there as well.
Gao Zhitao didn’t seem fazed by Xiang Yu’s scolding. After hastily bandaging his arm, he still followed behind him.
Although he didn’t fully understand the situation, it seemed clear that Xiang Yu was on the side of justice.
On the fourth floor, Xiang Yu crouched silently, regulating his breathing. Behind him, he could hear the unmistakable "plop, plop" of Gao Zhitao’s footsteps.
"Stand still and don’t move," Xiang Yu scolded irritably, furrowing his brows.
Gao Zhitao quickly stopped walking and froze on the spot.
"Don’t breathe," Xiang Yu ordered.
Gao Zhitao obeyed, covering his mouth and nose.
Xiang Yu kept perfectly still, eventually crossing his legs and sitting down. The entire floor was dead silent.
Watching Xiang Yu’s actions, Gao Zhitao couldn’t help but wonder what was going on. Was this guy practicing some bizarre technique? Sitting like this in the middle of the night—what was he doing?
After several minutes, Xiang Yu opened his eyes and walked toward a corner.
The corner housed a watch shop, displaying all kinds of timepieces. Xiang Yu began searching through the area.
"I can’t take it anymore, buddy. I’m about to suffocate. Can I breathe now?" Gao Zhitao gasped, his face red and veins bulging.
Seeing Gao Zhitao’s predicament, Xiang Yu unexpectedly broke into laughter. This guy was clearly a master flirt—not only talkative but skilled at lifting the mood.
Ignoring Gao Zhitao again, Xiang Yu continued his search.
Relieved to be able to breathe, Gao Zhitao took a deep breath and muttered, "So you’re looking for watches? Dude, why didn’t you say so earlier? I could’ve brought you here directly."
Despite having been shot, Gao Zhitao seemed unaffected, still as talkative as ever...
