Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 893: A Person in Peril
Chapter 893: Chapter 893: A Person in Peril
"What are you doing? Put the gun down immediately!" Director Huang was startled by Gao Zhitao’s behavior.
On ordinary days, Gao Zhitao’s reckless antics were usually ignored. Given his family background, even if they were displeased, there was nothing they could do about it.
But now, Gao Zhitao had snatched Director Huang’s gun—this was an entirely different matter.
Ignoring Huang, Gao Zhitao grabbed the gun and fired a shot into the sky. The gunshot stunned everyone present.
What was going on? Why was someone randomly firing again?
The police officers restraining Xiang Yu halted briefly, noticing that it was Gao Zhitao who fired the shot. They sneered coldly and then shoved Xiang Yu into a vehicle.
Amidst the chaos, the officers did not linger and drove directly back to the police station.
Gao Zhitao seemed to have lost it. Gritting his teeth, he shouted at Kong Shenghui, "Director Kong, there are still unexplored bombs here, and you’re leaving just like that? If there’s an accident, who will take responsibility?"
Normally, Gao Zhitao was respectful toward Kong Shenghui, often addressing him as "uncle." But now, calling him "Director Kong" indicated a complete severance of ties with everyone here.
He was also warning Kong Shenghui not to intervene, as he was determined to locate the other bomb.
"Deputy Director Gao, calm down. Let’s talk this through," said Director Huang, trying to pacify him. He was genuinely worried Gao Zhitao might do something extreme.
After all, the gun in Gao Zhitao’s hand belonged to Director Huang. If anything happened, Huang would bear the responsibility as well.
"Cut the **** and re-establish the precautionary zone! This isn’t over yet," Gao Zhitao demanded.
All the surrounding officers exchanged bewildered looks. The deputy director was usually easygoing and largely uninvolved in the bureau’s affairs. What had riled him up today?
"Didn’t you hear me?!" Gao Zhitao shouted, firing another two shots into the sky.
Kong Shenghui’s expression darkened. He had practically watched Gao Zhitao grow up. Watching him lose control like this was disheartening.
"Zhitao, put down the gun right now!" Kong Shenghui yelled suddenly. free𝑤ebnovel.com
But Gao Zhitao was unfazed. He stood there calmly, staring back at Kong Shenghui. "Director Kong, you don’t fully understand this city’s circumstances. Step aside. I called you here only as a witness."
While Gao Zhitao conversed with Kong Shenghui, Director Huang slowly approached him.
In a swift move, during Gao Zhitao’s moment of inattention, Director Huang lunged forward and tackled him forcefully.
"What are you waiting for? Take his gun!" Director Huang shouted at the officers around him.
The officers froze momentarily, unable to process the absurd spectacle of their director and deputy director battling in public. If word got out, they’d lose all credibility as a police station.
Director Huang, despite his bulky frame, was surprisingly strong. He restrained Gao Zhitao so tightly that the latter could not move an inch.
Three officers then stepped forward and snatched the gun from Gao Zhitao’s hand.
Two more officers restrained Gao Zhitao while he, livid with rage, screamed, "You fools! Time is running out! If the bomb isn’t secured, this entire building will be done for!"
But no one listened. Director Huang, relieved by the retrieval of his handgun, felt a weight lifted off his shoulders.
That firearm symbolized his authority. Losing it would have resulted in dire legal repercussions for him.
Now that his liability was gone, Huang felt no urge to intervene further. Let Gao Zhitao make a scene; the more he acted out, the more evidence of his incompetence would become evident.
"Zhitao, stop this nonsense and go home," Kong Shenghui said, patting Gao Zhitao’s shoulder.
Unwilling to yield, Gao Zhitao broke free from the officers restraining him and dashed into the building alone.
Since no one believed him, he had to handle it himself. For some reason, he felt inclined to trust Xiang Yu’s words.
When Xiang Yu was hauled away earlier, he had claimed that the bomb was underneath. It had to be down below. Yet, in all his time here, Gao Zhitao had never heard of or seen any indication of hidden structures.
There was no choice but to search slowly and meticulously.
Outside the building, Director Huang scoffed as he saw Gao Zhitao rushing inside.
He sneered internally, "These spoiled brats from privileged families... so brainless. Trying to pull off a stunt with such idiotic tactics."
"Withdraw the team!" Director Huang barked, striding up to Kong Shenghui with a flattering smile. "Director Kong, what a hassle for you today. How about heading back to the station for a moment?"
Kong Shenghui ignored him, standing motionless while staring toward the building.
Feeling awkward, Director Huang also stood in place, silently cursing Kong Shenghui dozens of times in his head, how he despised this old man’s pompous demeanor.
Just as the crowd remained unsure of what to do, commotion arose among the onlookers outside, gradually parting to form a path.
Kong Shenghui and Director Huang instinctively looked in the same direction. What they saw made their entire bodies quiver, and they both immediately started jogging toward the scene.
A convoy of three army trucks was approaching. Each truck carried over a dozen armed soldiers, fully geared like they were heading into battle.
An elderly man stepped slowly out of one of the trucks, accompanied by four bodyguards.
The elder had a full head of white hair but stood firm, exuding an aura of vitality despite his age.
"Why are you here, Commander?" Kong Shenghui asked.
It was none other than Gao Mantang, Gao Zhitao’s grandfather. Kong Shenghui, being former military himself, owed much to Gao Mantang’s care and guidance during his time in service.
As such, Gao Mantang held a high stature in Kong Shenghui’s eyes.
"Where’s Zhitao?" Gao Mantang’s stern face reflected urgency. Moments earlier, he had received a call from his grandson seeking help, warning of imminent danger.
Though the situation wasn’t as dire as described, Gao Zhitao had exaggerated the problem to ensure the old man rushed over.
However, events had completely spiraled out of his control.
Director Huang knew exactly who this newcomer was. Forcing himself to smile, he said cautiously, "Commander Gao, Deputy Director Gao insisted that there’s a bomb inside and has already gone in alone."
Gao Mantang’s expression darkened instantly. He knew Director Huang’s type all too well.
"He went in, and why didn’t you?" Gao Mantang questioned sharply.
"I... uh..." Director Huang stammered, at a loss for words.
Seeing this, Kong Shenghui quickly interjected, "We deemed the area secure and were preparing to withdraw, but Zhitao insisted there’s still a bomb, so he went in alone..."
