Chapter 38: Meeting Of The Heads 2

In the center of the rune-lit chamber...

Fowler’s voice broke the silence.

"Most of you are probably wondering why I called this meeting."

He glanced around the room. The air was thick—old power, old grudges.

"Last night... a blood moon rose," he said, his voice calm but firm. "We all know what that means. A new age is coming. One that could swallow us whole if we’re not ready."

As he spoke, his mind flashed back to the previous night—the moment the sky turned crimson and the world shifted. He felt it. Everyone did.

"Monsters have started showing up in bigger numbers. But my daughter, along with your boy, has been handling it. Gotta admit, he’s got talent—moves like a natural-born hunter. Shame he’s a vampire."

Fowler turned to Vulpina, his voice laced with dry sarcasm.

"Too bad. With those skills, one of the vampire clans will come knocking soon."

Gasps rippled across the room. All eyes landed on Vulpina William—the elegant woman with fox ears and sharp, unblinking eyes. The Kami of the Kitsune. And Lucifer’s so-called mother.

Vulpina rose slowly from her seat. Her aura flared, cool but terrifying.

"He’s not joining any vampire clan," she said flatly. "Vampire or not, Lucifer is my son. He stays with the kitsune."

The room stirred—murmurs, shifting chairs, widened eyes.

"You can’t be serious." A smooth voice cut through the tension.

Vladimir Tepes stepped forward, the centuries resting lightly on his youthful appearance. Clad in black, with pale skin and crimson eyes, he carried the kind of power that made people sweat just by standing near him.

"If he doesn’t join a vampire clan, he becomes a rogue. Rogues don’t last, Vulpina. He’ll die."

Vulpina met his gaze with icy defiance.

"He won’t be alone. He has the Kitsune at his back. And as for being a vampire, I’m old enough to teach him myself. I don’t need your help, Vlad."

The room practically sparked.

Everyone knew their history. Vulpina and Vladimir had been clashing for over a century—rivals in blood and pride. There was no way she’d let him pull Lucifer into his clan. Not while she was still breathing.

From the other side of the table, Greta leaned back in her seat, watching it all with a smug grin. She had no love for Vulpina, but she kept her mouth shut. If she were to speak, she’d probably say: "Lucifer doesn’t need any of us. He’s already dangerous enough." But for now, she stayed silent.

Then—

"Enough!!"

A low growl rumbled through the room. Everyone turned.

Boris, Alpha of the Ironhowl Pack, stood from his seat. Towering and rough-looking, his presence demanded silence.

"We’re not here to decide the future of one boy," he said, voice gruff but commanding. "We’re here because of the blood moon. Focus."

The tension slowly eased. Vulpina and Vladimir exchanged one last glare, both letting out a sharp "hmph" as they sat back down.

Fowler couldn’t help the small smirk on his lips as he glanced at Boris.

"Glad someone remembers why we’re all here."

He walked toward the center of the table.

"Now, here’s the thing... the monsters that showed up last night? They’re not random. Something’s calling them. Pulling them to Earth. And that something... woke up with the blood moon."

The room went quiet again.

And just outside the rune-lined walls, in the shadows of the night, something ancient... was already watching.

The silence hung thick.

Fowler placed a crystal orb in the middle of the table. Glowing red veins pulsed across its surface—slow, like a heartbeat.

"This... is what we found in one of the monster nests last night," he said. "We don’t know what it is. We don’t even know if it’s alive... but it’s doing something. Drawing more monsters."

Boris crossed his arms, glaring at it like it might explode.

"Whatever that thing is, it doesn’t belong here."

Vulpina leaned in slightly, ears twitching.

"The energy feels... foreign. Like it came from somewhere deep. Below our world. Maybe even outside it."

Greta raised a brow. "You think this is some interdimensional nonsense?"

"Could be," Vladimir said, tapping the table with one finger. "Or... a sealed entity waking up. Something ancient. Something that predates all of us."

Fowler exhaled through his nose. "That’s the problem. We’re guessing. We don’t know what we’re dealing with. And the last time a blood moon like this happened... well, most of us are not alive now to speak of it."

A coven leader in black robes, old and silent till now, finally spoke up.

"If we don’t know what it is... we need to start crossing off what it isn’t."

Everyone nodded.

Fowler looked around the room.

"We need options. Throw everything on the table. Magical. Spiritual. Cosmic. Doesn’t matter."

Vulpina flicked her fingers and a small fox spirit appeared, circling the orb cautiously.

"I can have my elders consult the old scrolls. If this is something that touched the spirit realm before, the kitsune might have a record."

Vladimir folded his arms.

"My clan will comb through the Forbidden Archives. If it’s vampire-related—or tied to the old gods—we’ll find traces."

Greta rolled her eyes. "I’ll talk to the witches. The real ones. Not those TikTok broomstick dancers in Brooklyn."

Boris nodded. "We’ll send our shamans to the mountains. There are places where time sleeps. If anything old is stirring, they’ll feel it."

Fowler gave a small nod. "Good."

Then he hesitated. Just for a moment.

"...There’s one more option," he said. "But it’s a long shot."

Everyone looked at him.

"We could ask Lucifer."

Vulpina frowned. "He’s still adjusting. You want to involve him in this already?"

"I’m not saying we throw him in," Fowler said. "But he was born during the last blood moon. And now that it’s appeared again, he’s... changing. Fast. What if he is connected to this?"

The room went quiet again.

No one said it out loud, but it was obvious—they were all thinking the same thing.

What if Lucifer wasn’t just caught in this... but was part of it?

Fowler sighed and stepped back.

"Gather your people. Dig deep. We reconvene in three nights."

As everyone began to file out, murmuring to their inner circles, Vulpina remained seated, eyes locked on the orb.

It pulsed again.

This time... faster.
