Chapter 54: Targeting Lucifer

Lucifer and Ruka strolled across campus, their usual lazy pace making them look like they didn’t have a care in the world. Students parted for them like waves around a rock — not because they were famous, but because the air around them felt different. Heavy. Dangerous.

But then they saw them — standing just ahead by the garden path.

The demon siblings.

Vina’s eyes narrowed the moment she locked eyes with Lucifer. For a second, there was surprise... and something close to disbelief.

"You shouldn’t be alive," she said coldly, stepping forward. "I bit you. A werewolf’s bite kills vampires. So how—?"

Lucifer didn’t let her finish. He tilted his head and smiled — slow, sharp, and unfriendly.

"If I were you," he said, voice like velvet laced with poison, "I’d worry less about the ’how’ and more about the ’when.’"

Vina blinked. "What?"

Lucifer leaned in slightly. "When am I going to strike? Will it be in the open like now? Or maybe I’ll wait... ambush you in your sleep? Who knows?" He gave a low chuckle. "But I will make you suffer."

He turned to walk past her. Ruka followed, silent... until a hand clamped down on his shoulder. Rey.

Lucifer stopped without looking back.

But Ruka didn’t wait. He turned around slowly, locking eyes with Rey — and released his bloodline aura.

The ground trembled faintly.

Rey staggered backward, his eyes wide, choking on breath as his knees nearly buckled. Vina flinched too, gritting her teeth, managing to stay upright, but it was clear the pressure hit her hard.

Ruka’s eyes were glowing faint red now, his voice low and steady.

"Just as I thought," he said. "My bloodline is higher than yours."

He stepped closer to Rey, who was still struggling to breathe.

"That makes me a noble... and you? Just another mutt in the gutter."

Vina’s face twisted in anger, but she said nothing.

Ruka gave a small smirk. "You’re hiding something. But that’s fine. I’ll get stronger... and when I do, I’ll beat the truth out of you myself."

Without another word, he turned and walked away with Lucifer, their silhouettes slowly disappearing into the sunlight.

Vina clenched her fists. Rey was still trying to catch his breath.

Vina’s hands trembled at her sides, her aura spiking with rage.

"Hey! I don’t know how the hell you survived... but next time we cross paths—I’m killing you. For real."

Her voice cracked with fury, and for a split second, her demon form started to leak through. Horns twitched. Eyes flickered red. But she caught herself. Just barely.

Lucifer didn’t even stop.

He just turned his head slightly, flashed that cocky smirk, and said, "Till then."

Then he walked off like she was nothing.

Vina clenched her fists until her claws drew blood.

Elsewhere

A wine glass shattered in Vladimir’s grip, red liquid dripping between his fingers.

His crimson eyes burned through his trembling subordinate.

"A vampire survived a werewolf bite... and you’re just telling me now?"

The young vampire dropped to his knees, forehead pressed to the cold stone floor. "Forgive me, my lord! The information was being blocked... by the Kitsune Kami herself. Vulpina."

Vladimir’s fury cooled instantly.

"Vulpina?" he repeated, a low hum escaping his throat. "Then it’s him... it has to be."

He stood slowly, brushing glass from his cloak. His mind was already ten steps ahead.

Lucifer. The boy she adopted.

"A vampire surviving a werewolf bite... the world won’t stay quiet after this."

He turned to face the massive map on the far wall—pins scattered across it marking vampire covens, werewolf dens, and ancient battlegrounds.

"Every vampire clan on the planet will want him. The werewolves will panic. Their one edge over us, gone."

He stepped forward, placing a single black pin on a college campus in New York.

"Send someone to the college. Bring the boy here. Alive."

The subordinate raised his head, eyes wide. "W-what if the other factions move first?"

Vladimir narrowed his eyes.

"Then we move faster."

He turned to the door. "Get me Drax. We’ll need muscle. There’s going to be blood... and I want that boy under our protection before anyone else makes a move."

His voice echoed through the halls like thunder.

"The boy must be ours."

Elsewhere

"How far along are we with setting up the Nexus Point for the gates?"

The deep, rumbling voice echoed across the stone chamber, almost shaking dust from the old pillars.

The speaker, a towering beast of a man with glowing blue runes etched into his stone-like skin, stepped forward. His name was Balgron, a warlord of the Fomorians—an ancient race long thought wiped from the mortal plane.

Across from him, a woman with silver hair braided into dreadlocks leaned lazily against a crumbling pillar. Her amber eyes gleamed with something wild. Something ancient. She smiled, her sharp teeth showing.

"We’re close," she said with a sly tone. "Just need a dark witch to complete the final tethering spell. One with serious juice. Preferably one who’s already dabbled in demon deals."

Her name was Selene, a skinwalker from the northern wastes—feared even among monsters.

Balgron’s massive arms folded across his chest as a grin crept across his brutal face. "Then it’s settled. We find ourselves a witch neck-deep in darkness. They’re always crawling out of cursed woods or dead cities. We’ll smoke one out."

He walked to the edge of the chamber, where an opening overlooked the scorched valley below. The sunlight washed over his shoulders, and yet the shadow he cast was far too wide—unnaturally wide.

"Soon," he growled, eyes narrowing. "This world will welcome the dark age again. The Fogwalkers will notice the shift. And when they do... I will have my revenge."

Selene joined him at the edge, her expression unreadable.

"They’ll notice," she said, voice soft but dangerous. "Especially when we open the first gate."

The two of them stood there—ancient monsters staring down at a world that had forgotten them.

But not for long.
