Our Family Has Fallen
Chapter 1007 - 566: The Scheme
Amanda woke up groggy and dazed, but the strange feeling coming from her body seemed to keep hounding her, asking over and over what on earth had happened last night?
The candle had long since gone out, and in the morning light filtering through the carriage window she found that Lance had slipped away at some point, though the mess of last night’s battlefield was still plain to see.
What a ridiculous night...
Thinking back, Amanda still felt secretly delighted. A sense of security she’d never had before wrapped around her completely, and a silly smile crept onto her face without her noticing.
"Crap!"
Something suddenly came to her, and Amanda couldn’t care about anything else. She hurriedly threw herself together and headed straight for the dock.
The dock was bustling now. All the ships had been inspected yesterday; they were just waiting for the word so they could finally leave this damned place.
Amanda watched the impatience and anxiety on those people’s faces, as if they couldn’t wait another second to get out of here, but she knew perfectly well they were going to regret it very soon.
By the time the news reached their ears, they probably wouldn’t be able to buy a ticket onto any ship.
But who cares?
Amanda strode up onto the Romani ship, completely ignoring the looks from the people around her as she headed straight for the cabin.
"Move. I need to see Sela."
The Guard at the door hesitated when he saw it was Amanda, but Amanda clearly had no intention of waiting; she just pushed the door open and went in.
Her overbearing and aggressive attitude was obvious at a glance—no more pretending!
Sela, who was busy with the preparations for departure, looked over at Amanda and the two Guards following behind her with helpless expressions.
Normally she’d have lost her temper already, but when she saw how Amanda was practically glowing, she paused.
She couldn’t help but be curious what method that Lord had used. Just yesterday Amanda had been half-dead and unconscious like a gutted fish. How was she fine in a single day?
Given that she’d suffered losses in front of that pair of shameless lovebirds multiple times, Sela didn’t dare put on too much of a superior act. She could only pretend to be magnanimous, waving her hand for the Guards to leave.
Once the door was closed, Sela immediately started talking with that mocking, passive-aggressive tone.
"You’ve recovered nicely. I thought you’d be stuck in bed for ten days to half a month. Didn’t expect you to show up in one day to strut around in front of your savior."
You still had to put on a show. Once the door was shut, even if you got slapped in the face, your subordinates wouldn’t see it.
If no one knows, it doesn’t count as getting slapped.
This wave... this wave is called covering your ears while you steal the bell.
Amanda gave a cold laugh when she heard that, then sat down right opposite her. "I actually got my hands on a really important piece of news I was going to tell someone, but looks like she doesn’t want to know~"
"What is it?" At that, Sela’s expression flipped instantly as she leaned in, as if the scene from a moment ago had never happened.
Dignity was trash in her eyes, to be tossed whenever.
"Do you know what Lance went to do this time?"
"Hurry up and say it!"
"I paid a very heavy price to get this information. Don’t tell me you’re going to..." Amanda trailed off deliberately and simply held out her hand.
No one needed to explain what that meant.
"We agreed we’d split the money after we sell the intel." Sela’s guard was just as high when it came to Amanda.
Amanda didn’t keep pushing. Instead, she smiled and tossed out a line.
"In a few days you’ll probably hear this news that’s enough to set the whole continent on edge. When that happens, don’t blame me for not giving you the chance."
With that, Amanda got up to leave, clearly not planning to continue the negotiation.
"Hey! Don’t go." This time it was Sela’s turn to panic. She hurried up and grabbed her.
Just hearing that line had her itching with curiosity, dying to know what this intel was. If Amanda walked out like this, she’d probably lie awake on the ship for days, thinking about it every time she closed her eyes.
"This intel can’t be measured in money. If I didn’t still owe you a favor, I wouldn’t even be here." Amanda curled her lip and gave Sela a cold smile, her arrogance on full display.
Which only made Sela even more certain this was the real deal, so she dropped the act without hesitation.
"How much do you want?"
"You’ll know if it’s worth it after you hear it." Amanda didn’t name a price; instead, she went straight into the intel.
"This time the Lord found the Old City Ruins from after the great Hamlet Cataclysm back then, and the preservation is extremely good..."
As Amanda spoke, Sela couldn’t help but tremble all over—not out of fear, but excitement.
"So basically it’s a giant treasure trove just waiting to be dug up! Do you know how much money that is..."
Amanda watched Sela acting like an idiot and couldn’t help mocking her in her heart, though her face didn’t show a trace.
Until Sela suddenly bounced with excitement and blurted something out that almost scared her to death.
"We tell the organization, you find a way to assassinate that Lord, and then we take control of Hamlet. How about it?"
Amanda’s face changed instantly at those words, going sheet-white in a flash. Her heart pounded so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of her chest. Her eyes darted around the room uneasily before she snapped out of it and snarled, baring her teeth!
"Fuck! If you want to die, don’t drag me down with you!"
Only after that outburst did Amanda’s breathing ease a little. Once she calmed down and stepped out of the Romani frame of mind, she finally realized just how vile these people were. No wonder Lance had always had that vague resistance toward her before.
"Why are you overreacting so much? Since when did you get so timid? Where’s that storm-breaker version of you?"
Sela didn’t take it to heart, mocking her for not reacting this strongly even when she’d gone up against the Deep Sea Shaman head-on.
