"Uhm...can we do our own things? Which areas are we absolutely prohibited to go to?"
They didn’t want to accidentally step on plants or something.
Naia shook her head. "As long as you don’t damage anything, and maybe help out with a few chores, I can help you get to an urbanized area at a later date."
The two nodded in understanding. They were already thinking about how to help out before she asked.
Naia, on the other hand, was thinking of where to drop them off. After fleecing the next jade town, she’d head to the urban area and take the train to the west to shop for supplies. She could let them go somewhere there if they wanted.
The embassies should also be in the central metropolitan area. They could go through there if they were foreigners.
"Where are you from, anyway?"
"Micara." So far, she had no plans to head there yet, though she wasn’t entirely sure, especially with Kael helping out. If she didn’t go there, then they’d have to make do with other places.
"No relatives?"
"No. Our father was orphaned as a child, while our mum was an only child. Our grandparents passed away years ago."
"So, we are already very thankful that you saved us from the slave den," Glen said. "You can let us go when it is convenient to you. Now that we know we can go out at any time, I feel much more relaxed. I can stay here for days."
Gal nodded her head repeatedly like a little chick. "My hobby is gardening! I don’t know much about farming, but do we have flower fields? I can take care of those!"
"That’s good. I don’t have flowers yet, but I do have farming and gardening books here..." Naia said, summoning several books she had bought from Amber City.
She had several shelves which had academic and non-fiction books, bought from different bookstores across the city. She didn’t have the time to fill up the shelves yet and only bought the most important books for now, but she was sure it’d fill up.
"I’ll read them, too!" the young girl declared, grabbing the thick books and finding a spot next to the gardens.
She was the type who would switch between multiple books if she were to enter reading sprees. She could read the webnovel for a few hours, and then switch to studying after that, and then back to the novel again.
Gal, now with a goal in mind, seemed to have been injected by life. It comforted her brother’s heart.
The scarred man then walked over to Naia. "Can we use some of the bamboo? I saw a patch of bamboo forest over there."
"Huh?"
"I’d like to build a few pieces of furniture for us," he said, looking at his sister who was sitting on the soil.
Naia suddenly felt sorry for the siblings. "I’ll...find better accommodations," she said. She had so many things to buy, furniture wasn’t one of them.
First of all, they were non-essential for her. Second, they were space-consuming. Had she not expanded her space to its current size, she would never even think of getting furniture.
For furniture, she was planning on doing a ’zero-dana shopping spree’. When the apocalypse started, intact furnitures would be the last thing people would take, except for when they’d burn them as fuel for fire.
Now that her space was large, she should indeed add it in her shopping list even before the Fall.
She had been wondering where to buy one of those modular shipping container houses again. Those looked very convenient, lightweight, and easy to install while retaining some aesthetics.
They were also light enough to effortlessly put in and out of the space, like taking out a toy house from her backpack. It could literally be like a portable house.
"No need to bother with us, we’re already embarrassed to bother you so much," he said, genuinely feeling guilty.
When he found out that the criminal organization had been captured, he was extremely thankful, but also guilty because they took the girl’s time and space when they coud’ve just waited for rescue.
He decided to show his gratitude the way he could, as a broke person. All he had was his labor force.
"Since we’re staying here for a few days, I just want to be a bit more useful. We can leave the items for you to use even after we leave. Bamboo furniture fits your place very well."
Glen looked at the rich bamboo forest at a distance. He had passed through there before and checked the quality of the bamboo. He could tell that they were superior to what he had seen so far.
To be honest, he was even feeling a bit excited for the work. He hadn’t crafted anything for a long time.
He hadn’t looked forward to anything in a long time.
He couldn’t help but turn to look at the girl, a few years younger than him, but was already so capable. It makes him, a man—even if he had many disabilities and was ugly to death—eager to find purpose.
...
Early the next morning, Naia went to check with the siblings again. Unexpectedly, there was a lot of change that happened while she was asleep.
First of all, there was now a dining room set, with four chairs, near the gardens. When she arrived, the siblings were sitting there, reading books. Gal was reading a gardening book this time, while Glen was reading the apocalypse book.
When she arrived, their eyes brightened and stood up to greet her, even offering her a seat as they gestured to prepare an instant noodle breakfast for her.
"The inn has plated breakfast included," she said, stopping them. "How is your night?"
"It’s the most comfortable sleep we had in a year," Glen said, completely sincere. Even if they didn’t have a bed—they at least had their freedom.
Yes. Even if they were inexplicably trapped in this place, they did not feel like their freedom was restricted.
On the contrary, the more they explored, the more amazed they were. This was especially true for Glen, who was observant by nature.
"Can this place...grow bigger?" he couldn’t help but ask.
This made Naia’s eyebrows rise, not expecting him to think in this direction at all.
Do people have such broad minds and creativity nowadays?
"Yes."
"Would the plants grow as well in the new areas?" he asked again, making Naia want to clap her hands, impressed.
Gal, while reading the webnovel, had her ears twitching while the other two talked. She lifted her head. "What do you mean, brother?"
"I picked up the berries in this one a few hours ago," he said, pointing at a wild berry shrub at the border of the forest and garden areas. "Now, it’s already flowering again."
"Whoa, really?"
He nodded.
They had already read a part of the apocalypse webnovel. Though Glen didn’t have the time to read much, he had read enough to see what kind of world awaited them.
"I’m thinking..." he said. "That staying here for a long time wouldn’t be too bad."
And so, inexplicably, her space gained the first two (potential) new residents.
