Chapter 829: Chapter 829. Evolution

Yuka had been using his light-speed dashes to dodge the black arrow. However, the black arrow continued to chase after her. It was as if alive. It changed direction following her. She couldn’t run forever, but she also knew she couldn’t block the arrow. It was fired from an Overlord Stage cultivator. If it hit, his body would burst, just like what happened to those altered beasts.

She cursed angrily. Why did she agree to this task? Sending those altered beasts should be enough. Could Amon send her on this ambush to cause her harm?

She didn’t have time to ponder all that. She must keep moving if she wishes to survive. She turned into a light and sped away, just as the black arrow was about to hit her. It was getting closer with each dodge. She was getting slower because turning into light consecutively drained a lot of energy. As for the black arrow, it seemed that it could still last for a while. There was no way she could outlast the black arrow.

Her fast movements brought her outside the estate. Luckily, the people in the estate hadn’t reactivated the protective barrier. If they had, she would be trapped. She flew past the bodies of the bodyguards who were supposed to watch the perimeter.

She was heading to the rendezvous point with the black arrow hot on her tail. She must force the bastard who put her in this situation to help her out of this predicament.

When she reached the rendezvous point, which was behind a hill overlooking the estate, the person he was looking for was nowhere to be seen.

"Bastard!" She cursed. She knew for sure now that the despicable man had left her here to die.

She sensed the black arrow closing in from behind her. She turned again into light and zoomed away. That was her last dodge. She was running out of fuel. She couldn’t even control the direction she zoomed toward. She crashed into the hill and fell to the ground.

She watched the black arrow approach with helpless eyes.

Suddenly, someone came between her and the black arrow. This person used his arm to block the black arrow. The black arrow shattered.

Yuka looked at the one who saved him. It was Amon. He was also the bastard she had been looking for.

"Where the hell did you hide just now?" She asked angrily.

"I wasn’t hiding. I was over there," Amon pointed at the other side of the hill. "You have your own to blame for not noticing."

Yuka looked at where Amon pointed. She had been too focused on the black arrow that she failed to sense Amon’s presence.

"What the hell was that black arrow just now?" Yuka asked.

"It was an art using the elements of darkness," Amon replied. He looked at the arm he used to block the black arrow. A hole was in that arm. Blood leaked from it. He ate a restorative pill and applied healing salve to the wound. "Thankfully, it was using darkness elements. Otherwise, I won’t be able to block it."

"What kind of art can chase someone relentlessly like that?" Yuka asked.

Amon chuckled. "Its ability to chase its target is not the ability of the art itself. The one who shot that black arrow must be Hai Lao."

"Yes, he is the Overlord Stage cultivator you warned me to avoid. I fled immediately once he appeared." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"You are right to do so. If you delay even a second, we most likely won’t meet here."

"You know about him?"

"I’ve read his profile. He is among a few Devil Realm cultivators who possess a cultivation law."

"Cultivation law..." Yuka had heard of cultivators with such abilities. Before Hai Lao, Amon was the only one she had met who possessed a cultivation law.

"Hai Lao has the Law of Pursuit," Amon said. "All his attacks, whether using arts or weapons, will lock on to his targets. They will pursue those targets until they hit or their energy expires."

"Tch! What kind of a cheat is that?"

"That is how advantageous someone with a cultivation law is. Come on. Let’s leave this place before they decide to send people to look for your corpse."

Amon offered Yuka his hand. This was his sign to let her enter his black space ring.

She was about to take Amon’s hand, but stopped midway and asked, "I will receive another drop of the Primordial Blue Lotus’ nectar, won’t I?"

"I am a fair man. You earn it, so you will get it," Amon answered.

With that assurance, Yuka entered the black space ring. Amon glanced in the estate’s direction before flying away.

Inside the black space ring, Yuka headed toward the Primordial Blue Lotus. She couldn’t get near, though. There was as if an invisible wall blocking her way.

The image of Amon appeared next to her. "You already know I won’t let you get close to the lotus. Why keep trying?"

Yuka shrugged. "Maybe you don’t pay attention this time. You can’t be aware of everything inside here all the time. There is no harm in trying."

"I can, and there is harm. I might get annoyed and no longer give you any nectar."

"Fine. Fine. I will stay away from your bloody lotus. Now, give me what I earn."

"You haven’t said the magic word."

"Tch! Please! Give me what I earn, please!"

Amon turned to the Primordial Blue Lotus. Its nectar floated out and slowly drifted toward Yuka. She eyed the levitating nectar greedily. She wanted so much to lunge forward, but she knew Amon could easily move the nectar away or even freeze her movement. She knew because that had happened before. Throughout the years, she had performed multiple tasks for Amon. Each time, Amon paid her with a drop of the lotus’ nectar.

"You are close to evolving, aren’t you?" Amon asked.

Yuka turned to Amon with a surprised expression.

"Don’t worry. I hope you evolve soon. Otherwise, you are too weak to be of use to me."

"Tch! Don’t be arrogant just because you have gotten a bit stronger," Yuka hissed.

Amon continued to hunt for darkness-element ley nodes, though not as fiercely as before the lord’s meeting seven years ago. The reason was that fewer darkness-element ley nodes were left. Every ley node he had drained would not recover for at least a few centuries. Additionally, all three factions increased security over the still-functioning ley nodes to prevent further losses. Hence, it was no longer as easy.

Even so, he managed to absorb enough and increased his cultivation level to the Intermediate Mammoth Stage. As for his divine cultivation level, he was close to pushing it into the Demigod Realm.

"I’m not. I’m simply stating the fact," Amon responded to Yuka. "Even Lin Li is stronger than you are now."

Hearing that provoked Yuka. She exclaimed, "How can she not be? She can drink the lotus’ nectar any time she wishes!"

Lin Li had evolved again. Her ninth tail had grown to two-thirds the length of her other tails. She was only one step away from achieving her highest evolution stage. Her current power could be compared to Amon, an Intermediate Mammoth Stage cultivator. Once she had a full ninth tail, she would gain the power to contest against an Overlord Stage cultivator.

However, her value was not in her combat capability. It was her other abilities that Amon valued more. Her disguising ability remained top-notch. Even Devil Realm cultivators would not be aware of her mask. He could even bypass some words of power that could unmask someone’s disguise. As for her Mesmerizing Voice, it had become stronger. Very few people could resist her influence, especially if they weren’t aware. She also gained a new ability to create hallucinations.

"Of course, she gets the privilege," Amon told Yuka. "She is soul-linked to me. I trust her. You, not so much. If you are willing to be my tamed beast, then my treatment will be different."

"I would rather not evolve than be someone’s slave," Yuka stated.

"In that case, don’t complain that our relationship is limited to a trade. Now, here is your payment."

The slow-floating nectar finally reached Yuka. She glanced irritably at Amon. She knew he could send the nectar hurtling at her. Yet, he purposely annoyed her by making it move so slowly.

She didn’t waste more time. The large mouth in her abdomen opened and swallowed the nectar. A gulp, and she felt her body shiver. The ecstasy that flowed through her body every time she consumed the nectar was incredible.

While enjoying the sensation, she suddenly realized something. Her body didn’t stop shivering. The pleasurable feeling that coursed through her body slowly gave way to a painful one. The trembling of her body continued to intensify. She was shaking uncontrollably now.

"It... It’s happening!" She exclaimed.

Suddenly, she stopped moving. Her woman’s head looked up. Her eyes became white. She went into a trance. Fine threads of silk began seeping out from all over her body. Within a few seconds, these fine threads wrapped over her and turned her into a giant cocoon.
