Rise of The Demon General
Chapter 837. Second Venture into the Misty Border
Amon continued to delve deeper into the misty border using the battle puppets to gauge his surroundings. He only actively engaged spirit beasts below the Primordial grade because he could slay such beasts in a short time. If it were stronger beasts, he would avoid them.
Things didn’t always go as planned, though. There were Primordial Beasts fast enough to reach his location after destroying his puppet scouts before he could move away. In such cases, he did either of the two actions.
If the spirit beast were a Lower Primordial Beast, he would fight it. He was strong enough to slay such a beast. It only took slightly longer.
If it were a Mid, he would sacrifice his battle puppets to hinder the beast and flee. He could defeat a Mid Primordial Beast, but that would take quite some time. In this place, he had no luxury for time. Other spirit beasts might come and ambush him mid-fight. That would have been catastrophic.
If it were a Higher Primordial Beast, he would do the same. He could probably survive fighting a Higher Primordial Beast, but this place was not an ideal place to test the theory. He could call the aid of evolved Yuka or use the Titan Battle Puppet, but he preferred not to. He wasn’t sure about Yuka’s priority, and he preferred to keep the Titan Battle Puppet in top condition in case of an emergency.
As for Deity Beasts, he could only hope that he didn’t encounter one, aside from Di Yu’s offspring, of course.
With this method, he continued to advance. Four days passed, and he was close to the location Mo Wang had provided. He couldn’t move as fast as he wished to because of the constant encounters with spirit beasts. Thankfully, he did not need to sleep. This allowed him to move constantly.
He slowed down a little as he neared his destination. According to Mo Wang, Di Yu’s offspring hadn’t hatched that long. It had not yet passed a hundred years since Mo Wang first learned of its existence. A noble dragon took several centuries to reach adulthood, so the offspring should still be a weak beast. Even so, it was a Deity-class beast. Children or not, it remained dangerous.
Suddenly, he heard the warning voice of the battle puppet beside him.
"Contact! Puppet two, three, four have been neutralized... Puppet eighteen, nineteen are destroyed..."
’So fast!’ Amon thought alarmingly. It could only be a Higher Primordial Beast or stronger. He immediately summoned more battle puppets from the direction the beast was coming while heading in the opposite direction.
"Puppet nine, ten are destroyed... Puppet twenty-three, twenty-four are destroyed..."
"Fuck!" Amon cursed. The recent warning was in the direction he was fleeing toward. Two powerful spirit beasts came at him from two different directions.
He hurriedly moved perpendicular to the two incoming, avoiding both. However, the sound of the ground rumbling warned him that a third was incoming.
"Shit!" Amon cursed as he flew upward, just as the ground burst. Something with a massive mouth caught the battle puppet with the vocal module and swallowed it whole.
The spirit beast from the ground was a mole-like creature with protective armored plates along its body. Its head took up half the total size of its entire body, and its mouth took up half its head. It possessed six limbs, which ended in long, sharp claws. Terrible crunching sounds were heard from that mouth as it chewed. It soon spat out the battle puppet it was chewing. The puppet had broken into scraps.
"Pah! What a tasteless tin can!" The mole beast grumbled.
Being so close, Amon could confirm that the mole beast was a Higher Primordial Beast. To make things worse, it was an intelligent type that could talk.
"Get him!" The mole beast exclaimed.
Amon didn’t need to wonder long to learn who the mole beasts were talking to. Out of his left and right, two other spirit beasts appeared. These were the ones that wrecked his battle puppets earlier. Amon used the Invisible Sky Steps and dodged the two.
He had a good view of the two spirit beasts as they swept past him. The two were the same type of beast. They had ape bodies covered in silver fur but with goat heads. Their legs were hooves instead of feet. As for their hands, each hand had eight fingers, and they were unusually long. They were also Higher Primordial Beasts.
These goat beasts uttered an unsettling, loud yell when they failed to catch Amon. Their hooved legs kicked in the air. As if hitting an invisible wall, they made a sharp turn in the air, heading toward Amon.
Amon didn’t try to fight them. Facing one Higher Primordial Beast was already a big risk. Fighting three would be courting death. He released more battle puppets to hinder the beasts as he flew away.
Unfortunately, the goat beasts moved rapidly in the air. Their legs could kick at empty air, sending them hurtling in any direction. Their maneuverability in the air was even more flexible than that of creatures that could fly.
The ability to kick the air was not the only ability the goat beasts had. They let out a deafening scream when Amon’s battle puppets surrounded them. The scream rattled everything in their vicinity. The battle puppets shook so violently that they were dismantled into tiny components.
Amon released more battle puppets to cover his escape. There were also altered beasts among the battle puppets. He couldn’t afford to be stingy. However, he heard the ground rumbling again ahead of him. The mole beast burst out of the ground and jumped toward him, blocking his escape path.
Amon used the Invisible Sky Steps again but suddenly found his body had become extremely heavy. He lost altitude and dropped to the ground, just as the mole beast landed. Its abnormally wide mouth grinned as it uttered disturbing giggles.
"Hehehe. No flying," the mole beast said.
Amon then understood that the mole beast could create a gravity zone around its body, making everything in its vicinity feel heavy.
The goat beasts kept jumping nearby but didn’t approach. They didn’t wish to be affected by the gravity zone. Instead, they let out loud yells again. Amon felt the energy of their yells hitting him. His body trembled involuntarily. If he didn’t have a sturdy body, these sound attacks might have blown his body up. Nevertheless, the violent shaking caused extreme discomfort to his inner organs.
Amon donned his shadow suit. The pressure from the mole beast’s gravity zone lessened a lot. The previous Elder God Veil couldn’t block sound attacks, but it was not the same now. Shrouded in the devil-form shadow suit, the goat’s yelling still reached him, but his body no longer shook from its effect.
The eight shadow tentacles on his back transformed into cannons. These cannons fired dark bullets at the two goat beasts. Despite the bullets’ lightning speed, the two goat beasts were not slow. They dodged the dark bullets. Their air-jumping made it difficult for Amon to predict the directions they jumped toward.
The mole beast didn’t stay idle. It lunged when Amon tried shooting the goat beasts. Amon moved away when the mole beast’s sharp claw came slashing. Though the Elder God Veil reduced the gravity zone’s effect, his speed was still hampered. He failed to dodge the slash cleanly. The claw cut into his shadow suit and grazed his shoulder.
Amon was ready with a counterattack. A blinding light shone from the shadow devil’s right arm. The light caused the mole beast to wince. The light could not blind it completely, but still took it aback. In its surprise, it failed to see the light move.
The light swiped the arm that it had just used to slash. It felt sharp pain in that arm. The pain forced it to retreat while howling angrily. A long gash was in that arm, and blood gushed out of it.
Amon was disappointed. He wanted to cut the arm clean off, but it seemed that his broken weapon was not strong enough to dismember the body of a Higher Primordial Beast in one slice.
"Raarggghh...!!! Human! You will pay for this!" The mole beast shouted.
It opened its giant mouth wide. A grey sphere radiated from that mouth. The sphere quickly enveloped Amon. He felt his body being dragged toward the mouth.
"Ugh!" Amon planted his feet and stabbed the Broken Justice into the ground, but the pulling force was greater. His feet slowly skidded on the ground toward the open mouth.
Amon aimed his cannon tentacles at the mole beast and fired. However, the pulling force was so great that the dark bullets swerved from their flight paths and spiraled into the abyss inside the mole beast’s mouth. The beast didn’t mind that bullets with deadly eroding ability had entered its stomach.
Amon continued to fire. Countless dark bullets continued to enter the mouth. Yet, the mole beast wasn’t affected. It continued to suck as if nothing had happened, and the distance between Amon and the beast continued to shorten.
