Li Weiwei watched Hao Jian eating earlier like he was wolfing down his meal, and thought about waiting until he finished eating to talk to him. However, before Hao Jian finished his meal, Zhang Haiping unexpectedly sat down and went on and on about a lot of things. It took a lot of effort to get rid of him, which caused her to forget what she initially intended to do.

At this moment, upon hearing Hao Jian's reminder, she immediately remembered and quickly said, "Oh, I just remembered, I forgot about it until you mentioned it."

Hao Jian rolled his eyes at Li Weiwei. It wasn't that long ago, and she could forget about something like this, she really is something else. But knowing Li Weiwei's temperament, she wouldn't tolerate anyone saying anything bad about her, so he kept those thoughts to himself.

Li Weiwei took a slow sip of her porridge, then raised her head to look at Hao Jian. Earlier, her gaze held a hint of playfulness, but now her expression turned more serious. She hesitated for a moment and said, "I have two tasks that I need you to do, are you willing to help?"

Hearing that there were two tasks for him to do, Hao Jian's brow immediately furrowed. If they were just simple tasks, Li Weiwei wouldn't have needed to be so serious when she mentioned them; she could have just said it casually. He knew there had to be something more to it than her just treating him to a meal for no reason—she actually had something to ask of him.

Still, Li Weiwei had already told him when she arrived that she had something to discuss with him, so she wasn't being unreasonable. But why couldn't she just say what it was directly instead of preambling? It made Hao Jian feel like it was something complicated.

However, since he had already eaten Li Weiwei's meal, it'd look a bit ungrateful not to agree to do just two simple tasks for her. Besides, he could always agree first and decide later; if the tasks turned out to be too complicated or difficult, he could always refuse to do them, and Li Weiwei wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

After thinking it over, he nodded and said, "Go ahead."

Upon hearing this, Li Weiwei looked a bit displeased. Hao Jian only told her to go ahead but didn't promise he would do it. If she told him what it was and he refused, wouldn't that be... She suddenly thought Hao Jian was a bit crafty, at least about this matter.

After a pause, she said, "No, you have to promise me you're willing to do it before I can tell you what it is!"

Hao Jian didn't expect Li Weiwei to be so astute. She realized he just wanted to know what the matter was and wasn't ready to agree. But in the end, it's up to him to decide whether or not to do it. He's not someone who's committed to keeping his word no matter what.

He didn't want to continue debating this with Li Weiwei, so he promptly said, "Alright, alright, go ahead. How can I not do what you assign to me?"

Hearing this, Li Weiwei finally smiled. These two tasks weren't difficult; it was just that there didn't seem to be a better candidate than Hao Jian in the class for these tasks. So, she needed Hao Jian to agree before she could tell him. Now that he agreed, she smiled.

She then paused for a few seconds and said, "Actually, these tasks aren't that difficult. You're just the most suitable person, so I brought it up with you specifically."

Hao Jian nodded; he was curious to see how he was the most suitable person.

Li Weiwei continued, "The first task is organized by the school—the campus basketball game scheduled for this week. You know the event is about to start, but our class lacks athletic students, so there's little enthusiasm for it. I'm not in a position to compel everyone to participate, but since it's something every class must be involved in, if we don't participate in such a campus collective activity, it'd be like we don't exist."

"It's not about winning any awards," she added after a pause, "but about taking part. Our class isn't even making an effort, so I think you're the best person to rally the class to join the basketball game because of your organizational skills and your authoritative voice."

After hearing what Li Weiwei said, Hao Jian furrowed his brow.

He was aware of the campus basketball game, and even if he didn't want to know about it, since it's a school-wide event, he could hear people talking about it all the time as he walked through the campus. So even if he didn't want to know, he would still pick up on it.

The event isn't actually complicated—just a basketball game organized by the school to enrich campus culture and build campus spirit. The games are organized by grade level: freshmen compete with freshmen, sophomores with sophomores, and juniors with juniors. This way, there's no interference between grades.

The competition is scheduled for the day after tomorrow and the day after that, with preliminary, semifinal, and final rounds. Once the school announcement was made, every class actively signed up and participated. The class teachers are eager to encourage their students because it livens up the class atmosphere and fosters unity. If a few students play well and win a prize, it also brings honor to the class and looks good in front of the school authorities.

For the past few days, after every class, Hao Jian often heard those in other classes discussing this, but he never paid attention to such matters, so it went in one ear and out the other, as if he didn't hear it. Now, with Li Weiwei bringing it up, it all came back to him.

Li Weiwei was right. In his class, other classes seemed very enthusiastic, even going so far as to plan team outfits, slogans, and cheerleaders. Every break and class discussion revolved around it. But in his own class, there wasn't even a peep about it.

Every break, everything continued as usual; those who wanted to study continued to study, those who wanted to sleep laid their heads on their desks to sleep. It was as if the basketball game was something completely unrelated to their class, and no one talked about it. The only time it was brought up was when He Qiqi, as the class monitor, mentioned it in the classroom, but no one volunteered, and so the matter went unresolved.

This lack of interest might be because other classes at least had one or two student athletes, but Li Weiwei's class was focused on academics, so there were no student athletes. The students were usually so buried in their studies that they didn't have time to play basketball.

Because of this, they naturally had no interest in the campus basketball game.

The only ones who occasionally played basketball were Liu Jie and his group. Since they were often idle and close to Gu Peng, they had some contact with basketball and could play.

However, for them, participating in such a competition wasn't appealing; they'd rather spend the time gaming in an internet café. So even the few basketball players in the class weren't keen to participate, and thus, no one else brought up the campus basketball game.

Now that Hao Jian heard Li Weiwei bring up this matter, he instinctively furrowed his brows.

He knew that if Li Weiwei was bringing this up so formally, it wouldn't be an easy task. Their class had few basketball players, and he was expected to rally his classmates to join this basketball game.

It might be possible in other classes, but in Li Weiwei's class, there was no chance at all. Hao Jian prided himself on having some influence in the class, but on this matter, he felt no confidence.

It's a joke, asking a group of bookworms who've barely touched a basketball to enter a campus basketball game? Asking them to join a math or writing competition would be more likely. But basketball? No way.

Upon hearing Li Weiwei's suggestion, Hao Jian's face turned troubled. Being asked to do this felt like being set up to fail.

Li Weiwei noticed the expression on his face and asked, "What? Can't you do it?"

Hao Jian hadn't spoken yet when Li Weiwei continued, "Whether you can or can't do it, I don't care. You've eaten my meal and promised me earlier, so backing out now would make you an untrustworthy scoundrel."

Hao Jian remained silent, gazing at Li Weiwei like he was deep in thought.

In truth, even if he changed his mind and didn't do it, it wouldn't matter much to him. Li Weiwei calling him untrustworthy wouldn't bother him at all. If he cared so much about others' opinions and criticisms, he wouldn't have survived this long.

Therefore, he didn't care about what Li Weiwei was saying.

But this was one matter; another was that he genuinely didn't want to break the promise he made to Li Weiwei.

After all, he had already eaten her food, and he promised her. Now that he knew what the tasks were but refused to do them, it really wouldn't be right.

Even though the task seemed difficult, with him handling it, he'd still manage to get it done somehow. As Li Weiwei was a female class advisor, it wasn't easy for her, and given the situation, it didn't seem right to let her handle it alone.
