Chapter 1522: Don't You Remember Me?

On the way to the Lin residence, Ling Feng finally learned that the young servant's name was Lin Feng. Their names sounded somewhat similar, which explained why the boy had suffered such unwarranted trouble.

In truth, the current misery of the Lin family in the western district was partly connected to Ling Feng himself.

Lin Mochen had been a student of Tianwei Academy and had maintained a close relationship with Ling Feng. Because of that connection, the Lin family had been dragged into the matter as well. Their casino had been confiscated and even their family property had been seized. All that remained was a single ancestral house. Even that might soon be taken away.

If that happened, the entire Lin family would likely be reduced to wandering the streets in poverty.

Lin Feng sighed and grumbled.

"We originally thought that since Third Young Master had such a good relationship with General Ling Feng, the Lin family had finally struck good fortune. Who could have expected such a turn of events? When a new ruler rises, the old officials fall. General Weiyuan has now become a wanted criminal. Anyone connected to him ends up suffering!"

Lin Feng clicked his tongue and muttered again.

"To be honest, that Ling Feng has truly brought disaster upon many people!"

"Hehe..." Ling Feng felt several black lines appear across his forehead.

He could only sigh inwardly.

It was true that many people in the imperial capital had suffered because of him. However, now that he had returned, he would certainly change the situation.

Before long, Lin Feng brought Ling Feng back to the Lin residence.

What had once been a grand and imposing household now looked desolate and lifeless.

Such a large estate now had barely any guards left. Only a handful of loyal old servants and maids remained. Otherwise they would not have been forced to send someone as weak as Lin Feng to invite a physician.

"Hero, we've arrived," Lin Feng said quietly. "A few nights ago, Miss Ling'er seemed to suffer a fright. She suddenly developed a fever. Under normal circumstances the Lin family could easily afford medical treatment. But now we only have a little silver left. We might not even be able to hire a physician."

He then looked at Ling Feng and asked respectfully, "By the way, I still don't know your name."

"I am only an ordinary hunter. My name is not worth mentioning."

Ling Feng smiled faintly.

If he told the boy his real name, he might frighten him.

"There's no time to waste. Take me to see little Ling'er immediately."

Ling Feng remembered the cheerful and innocent girl. The thought of her continuing to suffer truly troubled him.

"Yes, yes."

Lin Feng slapped his forehead and quickly led Ling Feng inside the inner hall. After a short walk they arrived at a quiet courtyard.

This was Ling'er's residence.

Inside the room, Lin Moyun and Lin Moyao stood beside the bed with worried expressions. Anxiety filled their faces. Lin Moyao in particular paced back and forth while muttering under her breath.

"Why hasn't the physician arrived yet?"

Outside the door stood an elderly butler who guarded the entrance.

When he saw Lin Feng bringing a hunter with him, he immediately frowned.

"You foolish boy. I told you to find a physician, yet you bring back a hunter. You... Are you trying to anger this old man to death?"

Seeing the old butler about to lose his temper, Lin Feng hurriedly explained.

"Steward, please calm down. This hunter brother is the physician. He knows medicine."

"A hunter?" the old butler scoffed. "At best he is a veterinarian! Do you think Miss Ling'er is some wild animal? This is absurd."

The old butler continued complaining without pause.

Ling Feng shook his head and stepped forward in a flash.

"Let me try first."

The old butler blinked in surprise.

Before he could react, the hunter had already slipped past him and walked straight into the room.

"Who are you?"

Lin Moyao looked up and saw a middle aged hunter entering. Her brows knitted together as she stepped forward to block him.

"Captain Moyao, don't you remember me?" Ling Feng said with a faint smile.

Lin Moyao froze.

The voice sounded strangely familiar.

Captain Moyao.

That was the name she had once used when she served as the captain of a hunting squad. She had left that group some time ago, yet this hunter knew about it. That meant he must be someone who knew her from the past.

Ling Feng smiled calmly and stepped around her in a blur.

"Hey, you..."

By the time Lin Moyao reacted, the hunter had already seated himself beside the bed. He gently took Ling'er's wrist and checked her pulse.

Then he spoke with complete confidence.

"Madam Lin, there is no need to worry. The child was frightened recently and caught a chill two nights ago. That is why the fever refuses to subside. Fortunately, her physique is quite strong. There is nothing serious."

Lin Moyun was about to stop him. However, after hearing his explanation, her anxiety eased slightly.

She bit her lip and asked softly, "Then... what about Ling'er's illness?"

"Do not worry. Leave it to me."

Ling Feng smiled faintly.

"Please hold Ling'er upright. I will perform acupuncture. It will only take a moment. The little girl will recover soon."

With his mastery of the Profound Art of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, treating such a minor illness was effortless.

"You also know acupuncture?"

Lin Moyun hesitated.

Looking at the rugged hunter with a great bow strapped to his back, she found it difficult to believe he possessed such medical skill.

Ling Feng sighed quietly. He leaned closer to her ear and lowered his voice.

"Madam Lin. It is me. Ling Feng."

"It's you!"

Lin Moyun's pupils shrank. Her beautiful eyes widened as she stared at him in disbelief.

After studying him carefully, she finally noticed it. Though the hunter's appearance looked rough and unfamiliar, those eyes and that voice were unmistakably the same as Ling Feng's.

"Now do you feel reassured?" Ling Feng said softly.

He gently lifted Ling'er and placed her in Lin Moyun's arms. Then he took out a row of golden needles and inserted several of them into the girl's back with swift precision.

A soft murmur escaped the girl's lips.

Moments later, Ling'er slowly opened her eyes.

"M-Mommy..."

Seeing herself in her mother's embrace, the little girl spoke weakly.

"I'm sorry, mommy. I made you worry."

"You silly child. Does your aunt not worry about you too?"

Lin Moyao hurried over and pretended to scold her.

Ling'er stuck out her tongue playfully.

"Auntie loves me the most!"

Seeing the little girl smiling and speaking again, the two women finally relaxed. Even the old butler outside the door could not stop praising Ling Feng's medical skill.

It was truly astonishing!

"Little Ling'er, do you remember me?"

Ling Feng pointed at himself and greeted her with a grin.

"Ah!"

Ling'er suddenly turned her head.

When she saw the large, muscular hunter, she jumped in fright.

"What a huge wild bear!"

Lin Moyao and Lin Moyun burst into laughter.

"Sir, please do not take a child's words to heart," Lin Moyun said gently.

She glanced at Ling Feng knowingly. Since he had concealed his identity, she naturally would not reveal it.

The entire empire was searching for Ling Feng. The fewer people who knew his identity, the better.

Ling Feng felt another dark line appear across his forehead.

Did he really look that frightening right now?

He shook his head with a helpless smile.

"It's fine. Children speak honestly."

He paused before continuing.

"Madam Lin, I may need to trouble your household for a few days."
