The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 121: Confession
Yu Wen parted his lips, but what he wanted to say he couldn’t. He was afraid. He was afraid that if he told him what he really felt, Li Jun would run away. But he couldn’t keep it inside anymore. He had to say it, otherwise, keeping it bottled up would only drive him crazy.
Li Jun, realizing that Yu Wen had been silent for a long time, turned to look at him. Yu Wen said, "I would tell him that I love him."
Li Jun froze, as if the world had stopped, locking his body in place while his mind reeled at the impossible words. His breath caught, his heart stammering, and every nerve seemed suspended between disbelief and the overwhelming rush of Yu Wen’s confession. The tension in the cabin was extremely intense.
"Sir, we are here," came the sound from the comms, breaking the atmosphere. The car came to a stop, and Yu Wen didn’t wait for Li Jun to say anything. He opened the car door and got out.
Li Jun, "..."
He let out a chuckle that was more self-deprecating. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" he said before opening the car door. He was met with chaos the second he stepped out. "Yu Wen!" he called out, but that man looked like he had oil on his feet. He was walking so fast you would think he was fleeing from something.
Soon, the man disappeared into the chaos. Just then, Yan Jia grabbed his arm and said, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I am good... It’s just." Li Jun wanted to tell her what Yu Wen said, but he decided it wasn’t a good idea, so he said, "I am hungry. Let’s see if there is anything good to eat in this place."
Yan Jia nodded and replied, "Let’s go take a look." The two of them made themselves at home. They were strutting around like they owned the place. When someone tried to stop them, Li Jun would have them call the general. And after being granted permission, he would continue exploring like he was on some adventure.
After an entire day of messing around, Li Jun realized something, and that was that Yu Wen was avoiding him. He found it amusing considering that Yu Wen had just dropped this bomb on him and simply ran off.
Since the mountain wouldn’t come to him, he would go to the mountain. It didn’t take much time to find out where Yu Wen was going to stay. Okay, it took Yan Jia threatening Alex to get that information out of him. Yan Jia’s intimidation tactics were good, but that wasn’t the reason why Alex caved. It was because Yu Wen had told him to be very accommodating to their benefactors. Alex didn’t want to, but he couldn’t go against the general’s wishes.
Li Jun didn’t waste time. After dinner, he went to Yu Wen’s tent. Yan Jia wanted to come with him, but Li Jun declined. He wanted to hear more about this so-called love Yu Wen had for him. They couldn’t have this conversation with others around.
The tent was exactly what it should be, temporary. There wasn’t much apart from a large table, a couch and computers that were humming softly. Inside the other section of the tent was a bed, a closet, a minibar, and a dresser.
Li Jun opened the minibar and grabbed a drink. He twisted the cap and lay on Yu Wen’s bed. He was courteous enough to take off his shoes and jacket. He took a sip and then another.
Bored, he decided to talk to Yu Xuan. He could have updated his family on where he was, but he was sure they were tracking him. Besides, after their argument in the group chat, he had muted them for a week. He didn’t want to be dragged into their petty arguments.
JunJun: Xu Xu, what are you up to?
It didn’t take long before Yu Xuan responded. It was as though he was already on the phone waiting for him to write him a message. What he didn’t realize was that Yan Jia and Yu Xuan had been arguing with each other for the past few days, so of course, he was on the phone.
LittleXu: Nothing. What’s up?
JunJun: Nothing much. I am at the frontlines, and um, it’s chaotic.
LittleXu: What’s on your mind? I can tell something is bothering you.
Li Jun’s brow creased. He was wondering what gave him that idea. But since Yu Xuan had asked, he couldn’t lie to him.
JunJun: Someone confessed to me today.
JunJun: Well, not directly.
Yu Xuan’s text bubble kept bouncing like he was thinking something through. Li Jun was wondering what was taking so long. Just then, Yu Xuan replied, and the message had Li Jun vexed.
LittleXu: Yu Wen?
JunJun: How did you know?
Yu Xuan, who was lying on his bed at home, bit his thumb, thinking of how he should word this. After a while, he typed back a response.
LittleXu: Promise me, you won’t be mad at me.
When Li Jun read this, he was a little confused. What sort of transgression had Yu Xuan committed that he needed forgiveness for?
JunJun: I promise.
Yu Xuan seemed to be contemplating his next move because he was typing, and then the bubble would stop. He repeated the cycle multiple times until he stopped. Li Jun’s phone suddenly rang, and he answered. Before he could say anything, Yu Xuan said, "You swear you won’t be mad?"
Li Jun said, "I promise, now tell me."
Yu Xuan sighed before saying, "Yu Wen already told me."
"Told you what?" Li Jun asked before taking another sip.
Yu Xuan said, "Told me that he loved you. Remember that day he came to see me? He said he was looking for you because he loved you."
Li Jun didn’t expect him to say such a thing. He didn’t respond for a long time, and Yu Xuan thought the call had dropped, so he called out, "Your Highness."
Li Jun rubbed his upper lip, lost in thought, before saying, "I am here. Why didn’t you tell me?"
