Chapter 458 - 411: Potential Branch in Japan and State of ZAGE Partnership – Part 2
Zaboru had already begun laying the groundwork for ZAGE's domestic expansion. On a crisp weekday morning, he summoned his top executives to the familiar meeting room on the upper floor of the ZAGE building. As the team settled in, Zaboru stood at the front, energized and focused.
"Thank you all for coming. Today's meeting is about our plans to expand within Japan," he began, passing out freshly printed briefing packets prepared by his secretary, Yumi, earlier that morning.
"Please take a moment to review the charts," he continued. The materials highlighted a list of potential hires, marked as "Pending," alongside data on current employees across departments.
"As you can see, we've garnered strong interest from top-tier talent. However, we can't afford to hire everyone just yet—we must scale responsibly," he explained. "That said, ZAGE's trajectory is still full steam ahead. We'll need more hands, especially with our U.S. operations growing. Some of our current staff may also transition overseas if they're interested."
He took a breath and shifted gears. "Now, for the main focus—our new domestic branch. We're considering two locations: Kyoto and Osaka. Today, I want us to finalize the location and also begin evaluating potential leaders for that branch. Should we promote from within or seek new talent from outside?"
Zanichi, the company's CTO and Zaboru's father, spoke first. "For this first domestic branch, I recommend we promote someone already with us but The department heads should stay centralized in Tokyo for now. Let's identify a rising star in-house and see how they perform with more responsibility."
He added, "Also, what's the scope of this branch? Will it manage independent projects or function as a support team?"
"Great question," Zaboru replied. "The new branch will take on full development responsibilities for select projects. For instance, if we have three major games in the pipeline, the branch can take the lead on one, allowing the main office to focus on the other two. This helps scale our capabilities without diluting focus."
Zanichi nodded in agreement. Shinsuke, a head manager seated near the front, leaned forward.
"That's a strong structure," he said. "But what if we come across someone outside ZAGE with exceptional leadership skills? Are we open to recruiting externally for this role?"
Zaboru answered without hesitation. "Absolutely. If any of you encounter someone promising, let me know. We'll vet them thoroughly. Our goal is finding the best person for the job—whether they're already with us or not."
Sayuri, head of ZAGE's finance, raised her hand to contribute.
"In terms of location, I strongly support Osaka," she said. "Based on our data, Osaka has a large player base and stronger retail performance compared to Kyoto. Our titles are consistently outperforming in that region."
Zaboru nodded thoughtfully. "Noted. That aligns with what I've seen, too. Shinsuke, if you're visiting any Osaka retailers soon, could you also scout potential locations for the new branch? I'll coordinate some site research from here as well."
Shinsuke gave a confident nod. "Consider it done, boss. I'll take care of it."
Shinsuke then said, "But Osaka is also the base of the Maken Rengo Yakuza group. Is that going to be an issue, boss? I know we have protection from the Hamazou family, but we still need to make sure safety comes first."
Zaboru nodded. "I'm aware of that, but don't worry. As for the Maken Rengo, we'll handle them. As you mentioned, the Hamazou family will extend their protection to our company—even beyond Tokyo."
Of course, Zaboru had a deep relationship with the Hamazou family—their princess, Ayumi Hamazou, was his girlfriend. Beyond that, he maintained strong and respectful connections with the rest of the Hamazou clan, which further solidified ZAGE's ties and protection.
The meeting rolled on with detailed discussions around logistical requirements, budgeting estimates, and initial staffing needs. The leadership team tossed around ideas for building layouts, recruitment phases, and how to integrate the new branch into the larger ZAGE ecosystem.
By the end of the session, the momentum was palpable. ZAGE's first domestic branch was no longer just an idea on paper—it was rapidly becoming a reality.
Zaboru smiled. "Heh, my ZAGE is expanding again—always a good thing." He leaned back, pondering for a moment. "Could Satoru Iwata or Shigeru Miyamoto lead the new branch office?" But then he shook his head, dismissing the thought. "Although they led Nintendo in my previous life, things are different here. Satoru Iwata is still young and currently just another developer at ZAGE. As for Shigeru Miyamoto, while he does have experience, he's still new and hasn't been fully tested yet. He was only recently hired." Zaboru doesn't want to act hastily with these in future these two could be a potential ZAGE leader but for now they still are not ready yet.
