Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 124: Couple’s daily life
Chapter 124: Couple’s daily life
The next day, Elena woke up feeling refreshed but extremely hungry.
She glanced at her husband, still peacefully sleeping, and decided not to disturb him.
Quietly, she crawled out of bed to freshen up before preparing a hearty breakfast.
She craved something salty.
’I want to eat a pickle.’
With a wave of her hand, a delightful spread of food appeared before her. There were pickles, fluffy scrambled eggs, golden toast, and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
She paused for a moment, then added crispy bacon alongside a serving of white rice. A smile spread across her face at the sight of her breakfast.
’Perfect.’
But soon, she realized that she had become quite picky over the past few days.
’This is not good.’
In an apocalypse, anything that could be eaten was already a blessing. She took a moment to reflect on her situation.
But then her thoughts shifted.
’Well, I have lots of food, so I will eat whatever I want!’
She was surprised at how easily her mood changed, feeling a mix of confusion and frustration about her dramatic struggles.
She brushed it off, attributing it to her hunger.
As her eyes kept drifting back to the pickles, she felt a strong urge to indulge.
She quickly opened the jar of kosher dill pickles, and the sharp, tangy smell filled the air as soon as she twisted the lid.
"Mmm... this smells so good," she said, already biting into one.
The crunch and burst of flavor sent a wave of satisfaction through her, and she savored each bite, feeling a sense of comfort envelop her.
In that moment, the world outside faded away, and all that mattered was the delicious pickle in her hand.
Looking at his wife, eating blissfully as if it were the tastiest food she had ever had, Ethan was confused.
He watched her every expression, chuckling, and then went to her side, hugging and kissing her cheeks.
He then stopped and wrinkled his nose.
"Wife, what are you eating? The smell is so strong."
Elena then took some and put it in his mouth.
"You’re eating salty pickles so early?"
She shrugged, chewing happily.
"Yeah. I don’t know why, but I wanted one."
He raised an eyebrow. "Since when do you even like pickles?"
She paused, then looked at the jar. "Huh. Weird... I don’t know. Maybe today, I just realized it. Husband, take a seat and eat your breakfast."
Ethan sat next to Elena, helping her add food to her plate from the table.
He watched her with affection as she eagerly enjoyed her breakfast, savoring each bite with enthusiasm.
"Stop stuffing more food onto my plate! I can handle it myself; focus on your own meal," Elena said, noticing that her husband was more interested in watching her enjoy her food than in eating his breakfast.
"Alright," he replied, finally starting to eat.
"This bacon tastes different—really good. It’s better than the last one!"
"Oh, this one? I bought it from a five-star restaurant, so of course, it’s delicious!" Elena beamed.
"I’m just afraid that once we finish everything we brought, we’ll miss this flavor," Ethan said honestly.
"Don’t worry! I brought plenty, and maybe we’ll even find a chef to cook for us. Just imagine having all the food we want!" Elena replied with a smile, thinking about finding someone reliable to help.
Although Grandma Ford’s cooking was delicious, Elena didn’t want to bother her while she was busy.
Ethan chuckled at his wife’s enthusiasm for food.
"Alright, we’ll find one," he said, smiling back at her.
He continued eating his breakfast, but soon noticed Elena piling her plate with food as if she had been starving for a few days.
He was confused; when he suggested she eat more, he meant in moderation, not to stuff herself all at once.
"Wife, take it slow. The food won’t vanish," he said gently.
Just as Elena was about to respond, a cute voice called from outside their unit, knocking on the door.
"Sis Ewe, are you there? Little Mia is here!"
Elena gestured for Ethan to open the door. When he did, he found his niece standing there in an adorable swimming outfit.
"Niece, come inside!" Ethan said, waving her in. "The air is chilly; why are you wearing such thin clothes?"
Little Mia pouted, "Bwother Oslo hasn’t woken up yet. He pwomised to teach us how to swim and scuba dive!"
She had been so excited since yesterday, waking up early to knock on Oslo’s door, eager to learn and swim in the Eastern lake.
"Maybe he’s busy and didn’t hear you," Ethan suggested.
"But I knocked a couple of times!" Little Mia insisted, her cute brows furrowing.
"Did you go downstairs by yourself?" Elena asked, wrapping a bathrobe around Little Mia to keep her warm.
"No! I pwomised Gwandpa I wouldn’t go alone, so I asked Butler Aki and Poochi to come with me," Little Mia replied proudly, a smug smile on her face.
Technically, she hadn’t asked; she had dragged them both along.
Ethan chuckled, "Good to hear you listened to Grandpa."
He knew his wife would be worried if Little Mia ventured out alone without anyone around.
"How about I teach you myself?" Elena suggested.
"Sis Ewe, you’re the best!" Little Mia exclaimed.
"Alright, I’ll finish eating first. Did you already have your breakfast?"
"Oh, I’m alweady done with Mom. But what are you eating, Sis Ewe? It smells bad!" Little Mia chimed in, her honesty making Ethan laugh again.
"Not smelly, just has a strong scent. Plus, it tastes good! Come on, I’ll let you try a little."
Little Mia’s curiosity was piqued, and she nodded eagerly, wanting to check out the ’smelly thing.’
"Here, open your mouth," Elena said, playfully offering a small piece of pickle.
Little Mia’s small face scrunched up in surprise as she tasted it, her big eyes widening.
"Sis Ewe! It’s sour!" she exclaimed, dramatically sticking out her tongue.
Elena laughed, looking at her adorable expression.
"You might like it more next time!" she said, trying to encourage her.
But Little Mia adamantly declined, shaking her head.
"Sis Ewe, I don’t like it. Can I have this juice instead?" she asked, pointing to the glass of orange juice with a hopeful smile.
"Sure," Elena said, picking up the glass of orange juice.
Afterwards, Elena continued eating, then moments later changed into her swimming outfit along with Ethan.
She then entered the space and teleported them to the Eastern lake.
"Where is your brother Koby?" Elena asked.
Little Mia was stunned; she had forgotten all about Little Koby. Her mind was solely focused on the thought that she would finally learn scuba diving.
"Sis Ewe, I forgot!"
"Then let me call him. I’m planning to instruct Oslo and Xander to continue their routine exercise along with the others without me," Ethan offered.
"Alright. We’ll wait around here."
Ethan nodded and vanished. After a few minutes, he returned, but there was no Little Koby.
"He is still sleeping, so I told Xander not to wake him up."
"Why is bwother Koby still sweeping? It’s awready sunny!" Little Mia chimed in, referring to the bright sun above the space.
"Outside is still gloomy, and maybe he thinks it’s still early. Okay, let’s begin without him. We can teach him later."
"Yay!" Little Mia exclaimed. "When I awready know how to swim, I will teach bwother Koby later!"
They then quickly went to an area not too deep, allowing Little Mia to stand while Elena taught her.
At first, Mia was complaining; her small arms and legs didn’t seem to cooperate.
She wanted to stop, but Elena’s encouragement pushed her through, even though she still couldn’t quite grasp it.
"Don’t worry, you will learn as long as you’re persistent. But only do so with someone with you. Don’t come here alone. Do you understand?" Elena said firmly.
"Okay, Sis Ewe." Little Mia then began to play with Dolphie, nearly forgetting about learning scuba diving.
Ethan smiled while watching them. He was swimming comfortably in the lake, feeling the stress melt away.
Seeing his niece finally leave his wife, he swam over to her side and playfully teased, "Wife, let’s do this every week. This lake seems to be taking away our fatigue, and it will also allow us to spend some quality time alone. What do you think?" He suggested, hugging her from behind and kissing her neck.
Elena agreed to his small request, and then the conversation shifted to the abbot’s comment regarding someone trying to kill her.
"Wife, why does the Heather want to kill you? Do they know our secret?"
"Not the Heather, but..." Elena paused and sighed, "The Heaven."
"The heavens? Why would they do that?" Ethan asked, concern etched on his face.
"Haist! Probably they might know about Paradise," Elena replied.
"So? They want to eliminate you for that reason? That seems like a far-fetched reason," he said in a cold voice, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Maybe they think it would be unfair in this coming cycle. They might perceive it as a threat to their order. But don’t worry; they don’t have any influence here," she reassured him.
"Alright, but we still need to take precautions. Don’t leave my sight, okay? I’m afraid, wife. Please promise me."
"So clingy! Alright, I will do my best. Honestly, no matter what, I will never back down. Let the heavens scheme; let them be frustrated for all I care," Elena replied with disdain towards the heavens.
She then kissed his lips, calming him down.
Ethan returned her playful kiss, but when he touched her belly, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
"Wife, your belly seems to be bloated. See, this is the reason I told you to eat moderately," Ethan said, caressing her belly gently with a teasing smile.
Elena slapped his hands away, glared at him, and then looked down to see her slim waist feeling a little puffy.
