Chapter 33: Salvation?

The police had been searching for Ethan for nearly a day.

After their lunch break, Lieutenant Xander returned to the camp with a grave expression.

His team had led the search operation and made a disturbing discovery: in the last area where their chief had been, they found a significant amount of blood scattered around, along with sticky black saliva.

According to their analysis, a fierce fight had taken place in that area. Thankfully, there were no signs that the chief had been killed by these unknown creatures.

He immediately seeks Lieutenant Oslo.

Inside the meeting room, a heavy silence hung in the air as everyone wore serious expressions. No one dared to interrupt Lieutenant Xander as he presented the findings, and the gravity of the situation was evident in his tone and demeanor.

"Everyone, we have found clues regarding Chief Caldwell in the hidden brush beside these large trees," Lieutenant Xander began, his voice steady but urgent.

"As you can see, there are claw marks on the trees, indicating a fierce battle. We also discovered bullets scattered among the other trees. Whatever these creatures are, they are likely responsible for the chief’s disappearance, as well as the brutal massacre happened a while ago."

"Aside from that, we discovered that the chief was washed downstream along the river. The problem now is, which way did he wash away? Considering that the river splits into two paths."

Everyone shared their opinions and suggestions, and after hours of deliberation, they reached a consensus. They decided to split into two teams, assigning one to each path of the river. The remaining officers would stay behind to assist General Kaiser, as his team had not yet arrived.

"Everyone, get ready. We’ll be leaving soon. Meeting adjourned," Xander announced.

After everyone left, only Oslo and Xander remained in the room. They had served alongside Ethan in the military for years, forming a strong bond. When Ethan transferred, they made the decision to resign from their posts and follow him.

Oslo glanced at Xander and shared insights about what had happened at the camp while he was on his mission, providing him with a brief overview of the current situation.

"We had a meeting a while ago with the team that will be taking over the smuggling case investigation," Oslo explained.

"I provided them with all the relevant files and requested to give us a week to locate the chief. They agreed, but they need some of our personnel who witnessed the crime scene to be interviewed."

"What are they, Oslo?" Xander asked with curiosity.

"They don’t talk much, but they claim to be from a special government agency that handles unusual cases. I think it’s called DUP, but I can’t quite remember," Oslo replied.

"I agreed to let some of our people speak with them and instructed everyone to be honest without holding anything back."

"Okay, I have to go now. I need to prepare for the search operation," Xander said.

"Wait, I saw sister-in-law a while ago."

Xander raised an eyebrow.

"Whose sister-in-law are you referring to?"

"Chief’s wife," Oslo replied.

Xander was stunned for a moment, then turned to Oslo with a questioning look.

"Why is she here? Did someone tell her that the chief is missing?"

"Not really," Oslo replied.

"She knows there’s a police operation nearby. Since she has business in the area, she came to see if the chief was around."

"And what did you say to her?" Xander inquired.

"I told her the chief is on a secret mission nearby. I promised to let her know when he returns."

"Does she believe you?"

"I think so. She replied that she would be in the village for a day, and if the chief returns, we can inform her," Oslo said.

"Hmmp," Xander nodded, considering the situation.

General Kaiser had been reviewing reports, clues, and any information that might connect to the chaos Brother Elias had foreseen. According to the police he interviewed, the bodies of the smugglers had been torn apart by claws.

They believed that wild animals were not responsible for the carnage, especially since the smugglers had fired their guns. If wild animals had been present, there should have been evidence of their bodies as well, but the scene revealed nothing but the remains of the smugglers.

Brother Elias had spoken about the looming chaos, claiming that the clues regarding this disasters were scattered throughout the village. At the same time, he foretold that the salvation of humanity would also emerge from this very place.

In his vision, he saw a woman ruthlessly massacring unknown creatures as if they were mere cabbages. However, the heavens had granted him only one clue: the figure of a woman.

’What is wrong with this village? It sounds so mysterious that everything revolves around here.’

He was lost in thought when a voice called out to him from outside.

"General, are you there?"

"Come inside," he replied.

The soldier entered and saluted. "General, one of the lieutenants from the police department arrived a while ago. They reported that the chief of police has not been found yet, but they have discovered clues—a claw and some sticky black saliva in the area."

"The chief of police hasn’t been found yet?" he asked, his brow furrowing.

"Yes, sir," the soldier confirmed.

"Send someone to the scene and have them report if they find any more clues. Is there anything else?"

"We also spotted mercenaries in the village, sir. According to the report, they are here to train their new recruits. But there’s something fishy—A young miss from the Heather family is with them."

"The Heather family? What are they doing here?"

"It says in the report that they want to see if the mercenaries they hired are up to standard, so they are here to evaluate them," the soldier explained.

"Bulls**t! Do they really think we’re idiots?" General Kaiser snapped.

"Find out more about them!" he ordered.

"Yes, sir."

Moments later, another soldier approached. "Sir! The abbot from the monastery has arrived."

"Bring Brother Elias here," the general instructed.

"Yes, sir."

A minute later, Brother Elias entered the tent, his expression anxious.

"Do you have any leads now?" he asked.

"So far, this is what has happened in the village," General Kaiser replied, summarizing the recent events.

"The Heather family? The precious young miss of the Heather family is here?" Brother Elias asked, surprised. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

"That’s what my soldier reported. What do you think? Is she the woman from your vision?"

"I don’t know. I need to see her aura first," Brother Elias said thoughtfully.

Afterwards, they reviewed the clues once more, preparing to investigate the scene and uncover the truth behind the unknown creature.
