Chapter 34: Back to the camp

Elena walked back, cutting through grasses and trees with her machete as she made her way. After more than an hour of trekking, she finally spotted the familiar area where she had stored her truck.

Once there, she entered her space and prepared the truck going back to military camp.

"Are you really sure about this? You could stay here while I drive. Once I spot people, I’ll notify you as soon as possible," she suggested.

"Don’t worry, wife. I’m fine, and it’s only a thirty-minute drive from the camp," Ethan reassured her and thought.

’It would be a hassle to explain to someone once they saw me appear in the truck.’

"And what about Poochi? His injury is severe. Leaving him out of the space will definitely reopen his wounds."

"Let’s just say Poochi went to the veterinarian clinic," he proposed.

"Are you sure they’ll believe that excuse?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"As long as I’m here, they won’t ask too many questions. Besides, they’re more concerned about my disappearance than where my dog is," he replied confidently.

"Okay, then." freёwebnoѵel.com

With a wave of her hand, Ethan was teleported inside the truck. He looked around, dumbfounded by what had just happened.

"You can teleport someone?" he asked, astonished.

"Hmpp, as long as they are in this space, I can do everything here," she replied with a hint of pride.

"That’s great."

"Okay, prepare yourself. I will exit now to the safe spot I entered," she instructed.

"Go ahead, wife," he said, settling in.

Elena drove the truck toward the police camp, chatting with Ethan about the things she had bought over the past few days. Their voices mingled with the engine’s hum, creating a sense of normalcy amidst the uncertainty ahead.

After Ethan left the Heather camp, Trixie found herself revising strategies on how to get closer to him while waiting for the treasure to reveal itself. Bored from the wait, she thought, ’why not visit the police camp to check on her man?’

Lost in a delusional moment, Trixie envisioned her future husband. His cold eyes, tone, and presence were exactly what she liked.

Meanwhile, in another tent, Marcus was dealing with a problem concerning the investigators.

"Sir, someone sent a message demanding that we report to the police camp this late afternoon," one of his men said.

"Are the police still suspicious of us?" Marcus asked, frowning.

"Not the police, sir. It’s someone from higher up. After our investigation, the higher-ups sent new people to replace the police in this case."

"Just a bunch of investigators. Decline them," Marcus ordered.

"I can’t, sir. They’ve already put sanctions against us."

"Did we disobey the law?" he shot back.

"They claim General Wang signed the papers illegally. If we don’t comply, they’ll issue a notice of removal from this area."

"For what reason?" Marcus demanded.

"Sir, they said it’s for illegal trespassing and breach of secrecy in police operations."

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath.

’If the treasure weren’t here, he would leave this place as soon as possible. I have to calm down; according to the master, the treasure will be our salvation.’

"Call Trixie. We need to inform her about this," he instructed.

"Yes, sir."

Trixie felt a surge of excitement upon hearing that they had been called to the police camp. She was about to leave to dress up and put on some makeup when Marcus reminded her seriously about the importance of making an alibi. They had to stay here because the treasure had not yet been found.

"We also need to hide the fact that we’ve been digging in a secluded area, trying to find the treasure," he added.

"Miss, we have to make sure that no one knows what we are doing," he emphasized.

"I know, don’t worry. I won’t say anything; I’ll let you be my spokesperson," Trixie replied impatiently.

"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving. Bye." With hurried steps, Trixie rushed to her tent, eager to choose a dress.

Watching her, Marcus felt a mix of frustration and concern. His master, Jack Heather, had said Trixie had great potential, but seeing her behavior now made him question his judgment. She became dumbstruck when it came to love.

He sighed and prepared to head to the police camp.

The Heather family had been digging in this area for a couple of weeks, unsure of what exactly the treasure their master, Jack Heather, referred to. They resorted to digging every corner where their master believed the treasure might appear.

Unbeknownst to them, they had struck an egg-shaped object that looked like a stone. When it broke, they dismissed it as a normal rock, but beneath it lay a small alien creature resembling a lizard.

This was the clue that Heaven’s Will had sent to the abbot, but it was already too late; the alien had escaped, hiding due to its weakness after being trapped in the shell for a thousand years. This alien had infected nearby animals, causing them to mutate and wreak havoc on the smugglers.

Well, you can’t blame the Heather family. Thousands of alien eggs were hidden on the blue planet, just waiting for the right moment to be released. The aliens had been waiting for the higher-ranked alien to awaken, for it possessed the power to trigger the mass release of their species.

Lieutenant Xander was driving along the path near the entrance of Willow Village when he spotted a truck driven by a woman. As the truck came to a stop at the corner, he recognized her; it was his sister-in-law behind the wheel.

Before he could ask any questions, a deep voice came from inside the truck.

"Lieutenant, I’m here."

Hearing the voice, Xander raised his head to see the chief sitting in the passenger seat. He quickly pushed aside his thoughts and approached to inquire about the situation.

Upon seeing Ethan, Xander felt a wave of conflicting emotions. The chief was battered, with injuries and bandages covering his shoulder and legs.

"Chief, are you okay? Should we go to the hospital for a thorough examination?" Xander asked.

"I’m fine. Let’s go to the camp first to discuss other matters," Ethan replied with a stern voice.

"Yes, chief," Xander said, though worry lingered in his mind.

They drove back to the camp, the atmosphere heavy with mixed emotions. Lieutenant Xander was relieved that the chief was safe, but others felt disappointed to see him well. Many of the officers were not fond of their new chief; his youth and competence made them uncomfortable. This jealousy and envy made them resent the chief.

Elena glanced at her husband with pity.

"Wife?" Ethan asked, confused by her expression.

"Your people don’t seem to like you that much," Elena stated, observing the officers around them.

Ethan shrugged it off.

"I don’t mind as long as they do their jobs. That’s enough for me." And then continued, "Maybe it’s because of my age. They feel uncomfortable. Let them be, as long as they work hard."

Elena agreed and concentrated on driving toward the police camp.
