Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 35: Department of Unnatural Phenomena
Chapter 35: Department of Unnatural Phenomena
Xander called Oslo to update him on the chief’s situation and requested a stretcher to be sent to the camp entrance.
"How is the chief?" Oslo asked.
"He’s battered with bruises and injuries, but from what I observed, he’s doing fine," Xander replied.
"As long as he’s okay, I’ll send someone to fetch the stretcher," Oslo said.
"By the way, it was my sister-in-law who found the chief."
"What?" Oslo exclaimed.
"I don’t know the whole situation yet, but she was driving the truck with the chief sitting beside her."
"Let’s ask them later. Also, pull Team B from the search operation."
"I did, but the signal can’t reach them. I texted them to return since the mission is already done."
"Okay, I’ll be waiting at the entrance."
After the call, Oslo sprang into action. He sent someone to fetch the stretcher and called for doctors stationed at the camp to accompany them to the entrance.
News of the chief’s condition quickly spread throughout the camp. Reactions varied; some were glad, some were indifferent, and others were not pleased.
In the Department of Unnatural Phenomena (DUP) tent, General Kaiser heard the news about the chief and went directly to Lieutenant Oslo to assess the situation. Knowing they would arrive soon, he joined Oslo to wait at the entrance.
After twenty minutes, a police car and truck arrived. Medical personnel quickly took action, carrying the stretcher to the truck.
Elena watched in disbelief.
’Why are there so many people here?’
Elena wanted to ask Ethan something, but before she could, medical personnel were already at the door of her truck with a stretcher.
"Let’s get out," Elena said.
"Hmmp," Ethan nodded in agreement.
They quickly transferred Ethan to the stretcher and began the procession to the medical bay for treatment. However, Ethan declined, explaining that his wounds had been bandaged earlier, so there was no need to redo them. After checking that the wounds weren’t bleeding, the medical team agreed.
"Just bring me a wheelchair," he said. Then he turned to Oslo and added, "Maybe you should dismiss the police who are watching this spectacle or let them go back to the city since our task is done here," he said, mixing seriousness with a hint of humor.
He hadn’t forgotten how the higher-ups had dismissed them from this case and replaced them with unknown secret agencies.
Feeling awkward, Oslo still commanded the officers to return to their duties.
"Everyone, go back to your work!" he called out.
Hearing this, the officers quickly dispersed, returning to their respective tasks.
General Kaiser couldn’t help but smile at the scene. He knew this little brat Ethan well, having worked with him in the past.
"Little brat, you’re still as hot-tempered as ever," he remarked, shaking his head in amusement.
Looking at the General, Ethan felt no excitement; this old man was the most nonchalant person he had ever worked with. He always believed that everything was fated. They had once collaborated on a case involving someone who bewitched another person. Ethan suspected it was some drug, but the General insisted it was done by mystic arts.
During the operation, while the military was busy checking every possible exit the suspect might use, the General simply sat on a nearby path, seemingly unconcerned. They waited for hours, yet the General had already caught the suspect.
And what did he say at the time? See, brat, this is what you call fate, he had said with a smug grin.
Ethan had nearly snapped, frustrated that they had been waiting for so long while the General had already caught the suspect himself. He was only 21 at the time—young and eager.
Now, looking at the old man, Ethan chose not to reply. Instead, he turned to Oslo and said, "Let’s go to the meeting tent. Call everyone, including the new people who will replace us."
"Hahhahaha, brat, you won’t talk to Uncle anymore?" the General teased, curiosity evident in his voice.
"General, let’s go to the tent. I’ll tell you everything I’ve experienced," Ethan said politely.
Elena was stunned by thier interaction. This was General Kaiser, the leader who had once resisted the alien invasion.
’If he were here, then the abbot from the monastery would also be present.’
Elena scanned the area and soon spotted the abbot standing at a distance, watching her curiously. Their eyes met, and a wave of profound emotion washed over them. This abbot had once saved Elena in the past, and he was the same person who had believed in and fought alongside her and Ethan.
In her previous life, Elena had been betrayed by the military forces, but the abbot and General Kaiser had stood their ground, protecting her with all their might. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
The aliens had wanted her desperately and had offered the military something they couldn’t refuse. As a result, the military had hunted her down, placing a bounty on her head. Whoever captured her would receive lifetime support from the military base. Even her comrades of many years had turned against her.
’But I resisted.’
Together with her husband, they had battled like no other. They faced humans, mutated beasts, and aliens, taking them down with powerful momentum. They had become two of the most formidable ability users, united in their fight against overwhelming odds.
Watching his wife lost in thought, Ethan noticed her gaze fixed on a specific area and couldn’t help but glare at the man standing there. But upon realizing it was the abbot, he felt confused.
’Why is my wife looking at the abbot?’
Before he could ask, they arrived at the meeting tent. Oslo helped Ethan into a wheelchair and pushed him inside.
"Wife, we will have a meeting first. You can wait for me at my tent," Ethan said.
"No, I have some business in the village. I’ll be right back as soon as I finish," she replied.
"Okay, be careful," he said, concern lacing his voice.
Seeing their interaction, Oslo and Xander exchanged glances, both stunned but relieved that the chief and sister-in-law seemed to be on good terms now. It was a welcome change; perhaps the chief wouldn’t be so moody anymore. Oslo smiled as he watched them.
"Brat, you have a wife now. Sigh, time moves so fast. You’re a big guy now with a wife," General Kaiser teased, a playful tone in his voice.
Ethan didn’t bother to look at him; he simply replied, "General, as you said, time is moving so fast. You might not realize it, but you’re starting to look old. I suggest you find a wife while you still can; otherwise, no one will want an old goose like you," Ethan joked.
Oslo and Xander chuckled at Ethan’s antics.
The General didn’t flinch and replied nonchalantly, "Yeah, I should find a wife as soon as possible. Though I believe the older I get, the more handsome I become. But it’s better to have children when you’re still young." His bravado and confident words left everyone stunned and amused.
"As long as you’re happy," Ethan replied mockingly.
"Let’s get inside," the General said, leading the way.
Upon entering, the abbot felt conflicted as he spotted Elena. This woman seemed to have no aura as if something was hiding it. What shocked him the most was that Ethan also lacked an aura; it had vanished completely. The last time he saw this young man, he had a purple aura, indicating a bright future, but now there was nothing—he seemed like a blank canvas.
The abbot was confused and intrigued, wanting to study them further. But first, he decided to listen to the discussion regarding the young chief’s situation.
