Chapter 284: This Is What She’s Waiting For
The following day, Abigail jolted awake in a panic when she realized she was late; it was nearly eight.
She sat up quickly, attempting to escape her blanket, but Sawyer pulled her back into his arms.
"Where are you going?" his hoarse voice whispered near her ear.
Abigail looked up to see Sawyer’s eyes, but he still kept them closed.
"Sawyer, are you still sleepy?" she asked with a smile, playfully rubbing his thick eyebrow. Despite her efforts, he tightly shut his eyes. "What time did you go to sleep last night?"
Abigail recalled that after dinner, she couldn’t bear to stay with Sawyer and the others any longer, so she went to bed earlier than usual.
"I forget. Maybe before dawn!?" he answered without opening his eyes.
A soft laugh escapes her lips, "Alright, you can get more sleep. I need to head down now."
"No need. There’s Chef and Paul who will take care of them."
Abigail sighed deeply when she saw his blue eyes staring back at her.
"How could I oversleep when everyone downstairs is busy?" she protests. It was rare for all their elders and her in-laws to come to stay at their house, and she wanted to help them down.
Sawyer smiled at Abigail’s slightly pouting lips; they made him want to kiss her. However, he quickly dismissed those thoughts as something else crossed his mind.
His once sleepy gaze was replaced by excitement about what would happen today. The news of his father’s marriage to his mother would be revealed soon, and he could already imagine the consequences Charlotte Morgan and her entire family would receive today.
He could also anticipate how shocked the media and everyone else would react.
When news about him and his mother broke, it surprised the nation like a sudden storm. Many assumed that his mother had been abandoned by his father and that he still loved Charlotte Morgan, which was why he had never remarried until now.
The truth, however, was quite different. His father had divorced Charlotte at a significant cost, losing almost all his assets to her. He hadn’t publicly announced his marriage to his mother because Charlotte insisted he keep it a secret.
But now that circumstances have changed, there’s no longer a reason to hide it.
"Oh, right, Abby. I need to tell you something," Sawyer said excitedly as he sat on the edge of the bed and helped her sit beside him.
His serious expression made her slightly worried about the news he wanted to share. "What is it?" she asked.
"Wife, well... I think you will be pleased to hear this." He paused for a moment, then took her hand and squeezed it gently. "We don’t have to attend Harvey’s wedding party tomorrow."
Abigail’s eyes widened in surprise at his words. "Really?" she asked, unable to believe it.
In recent days, Abigail has genuinely wanted to ask Sawyer not to attend Harvey and Serena’s wedding. She can’t bear the thought of others speaking ill of her husband, and she might not be able to control her emotions if they did. But she was worried about asking.
Although Sawyer’s relationship with Harvey wasn’t great, he was still his older brother. Moreover, Serena is also her Grandpa’s granddaughter.
And just the thought of telling her Grandpa about skipping Serena’s wedding already makes her dizzy.
"Yeah, he called me last night. He told me not to come because he was worried the media would publish negative news about me again. He also said that you and my mom shouldn’t attend."
"Thank goodness! I was already feeling stressed about going to their wedding," Abigail said with a joyful laugh. "This is the good news I wanted to hear, hubby."
"I could sense that," Sawyer replied, playfully ruffling her hair.
"You also seem happy," Abigail remarked, noticing the joy in his eyes.
"Of course I’m happy," Sawyer answered, sighing relief before continuing. "Now, I no longer feel bad if Grandpa and Dad ask me why I didn’t attend Harvey’s wedding..."
Abigail frowned in surprise at Sawyer’s words. "Did your dad and grandpa know about this yet?"
"Not yet. I haven’t told them," he replied casually, but Abigail was taken aback.
"Sawyer, you need to tell them—especially your mother. Like me, your mother is also very stressed about the wedding. She’s unsure whether to attend or not."
"Of course, I’ll tell her. I refuse to let Harvey and Charlotte Morgan bully my mother there!"
Sawyer clenched his hands tightly as he tried to control his emotions. Not wanting the conversation to turn sad, he redirected their discussion.
"Abby, there’s some important news you should know," Sawyer said as he stood up from the bed. Later, he returned to her and handed her the iPad. "You can check this out..."
After reading for a few moments, Abigail smiled happily at Sawyer, who was looking at her calmly.
"Oh my God, Sawyer! This is good news. Hannah will be thrilled to hear about this—your dad finally announced their marriage."
Abigail’s eyes trembled as she held back happy tears, and her heart swelled as she read the last paragraph: Walter stated he would take legal action against those who slander Hannah and Sawyer.
"Alright, let’s join them for breakfast." Sawyer took the iPad from her hand and carried her to the bathroom to freshen up before they joined their family on the first floor.

"Oh, Abby, you’re awake! Come here, honey. We’ve prepared your favorite food." Sophie said joyfully when she saw her granddaughter and Sawyer enter the dining room.
Hannah and Martha also gathered around Abigail, placing a large spread of food in front of her.
Sawyer sat at the end of the table with his grandfather, Grandpa Philips, and his father, enjoying a light conversation over breakfast.
However, the cheerful morning atmosphere quickly shifted to tension when Sawyer announced that he and Abigail would not attend Harvey and Serena’s wedding the following day.
Nathaniel, James, and Walter looked at him in shock.
