Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 285: The Angry Elders
Chapter 285: The Angry Elders
"Sawyer, I get it. You may not like your brother, but this is a one-time event. Please, be kind to your vile brother and come to his wedding, even if it’s only for a short while," Walter pleaded.
"Brat, there’s no need to stay long. Just come for a bit, and you can leave whenever you want," Nathaniel added.
Not only Nathaniel and Walter feel that way, but James Philips does, too. He felt disappointed to learn that Sawyer chose not to attend the wedding. He could only take a deep breath, knowing he couldn’t say anything.
James was aware of how toxic Sawyer’s relationship with Harvey was. Furthermore, Serena was his ex-girlfriend. He understood Sawyer’s decision—perhaps he wanted to protect his wife’s feelings.
Nathaniel and the others stared at Sawyer, waiting for his response, but he took his time, slowly sipping his coffee.
Sawyer stifled a smile as he observed their expressions. After a moment, he calmly set his cup down. He explained that he wasn’t attending the wedding because Harvey had forbidden him to come.
Nathaniel’s face flushed red upon hearing Sawyer’s words. He didn’t expect Harvey to have the audacity to act that way.
He slammed the table with his hand before expressing his anger, "Harvey Jones, you shameless brat! How could he forbid his younger brother to attend his wedding!"
"What was he thinking? How could he do that to you, Harvey Jones? You are unbelievable!" Walter couldn’t contain his anger as he vented to his older son, even though he wasn’t there.
Excitedly discussing Abigail’s pregnancy, Martha and the others suddenly stopped when they heard Nathaniel slap the table. They turned to look at him and were shocked by the anger displayed on Nathaniel and Walter’s faces.
"What’s wrong, Niel? Walter? Why are you both upset with Harvey?" Martha asked, confused.
Nathaniel and Walter glanced in Martha’s direction, their anger still flashing in their gaze.
"Mother, your grandson, Harvey, really pisses me off! How could he forbid Sawyer from coming to his wedding?" Walter was the one who answered Martha.
Martha stood up from her seat; her eyes reddened as she stared at Walter.
"What did you say? Is Harvey forbidding Sawyer from attending his wedding? Why did he do that?" Martha shouted angrily as if she were scolding Harvey at that moment.
"Martha, please don’t be upset. Your blood pressure will rise. Take a deep breath, my dear," Nathaniel said, approaching his wife and gently stroking her back to help calm her down.
"I’m fine. I’m fine, Niel..." Martha replied, attempting to take a deep breath as he suggested. "Niel, you need to scold Harvey. How dare he do this to his brother? He shows no respect for his family at all..."
"I promise you, I will!" Nathaniel assured her.
Sawyer smiled silently before adding more fuel to the fire. "Grandma, my brother not only forbade me from attending but Abby and my mother also—"
Suddenly, the table was slammed again. This time, Walter did it after hearing Harvey forbid his wife, Hannah.
"How dare he! Doesn’t he want all of us to come?" Walter said, clearly annoyed. Everyone was stunned by his words and fell silent. Each was lost in their own thoughts.
Not long after, a soft voice broke the silence.
"James, if Abby and Hannah don’t come, I won’t show up either," Sophie said, expressing her feelings. She wouldn’t attend a party where her granddaughter wasn’t welcome.
"Me too! I won’t come!" Martha added, voicing her stance.
Abigail, "..."
Nathaniel, "..."
Sawyer suppressed a laugh. This is precisely what he wanted to hear.
James was left speechless.
...
The conversation about tomorrow’s wedding party continued in the family room.
As the sun rose, the discussion of Harvey and Serena’s wedding grew increasingly tense. Nonetheless, the conclusion remained the same.
Only Nathaniel, James, and Walter had no choice but to attend the wedding ceremony. Despite their pleas, none of their partners were interested in coming if Abigail and Sawyer were not invited.
Sitting beside Sawyer, Abigail gently leaned in closer and softly whispered, "I can’t imagine what will happen tomorrow. Do you think their wedding will still take place?" She was curious about Sawyer’s plan.
A meaningful smile slowly spread across Sawyer’s lips as he replied in a low voice, "You’ll see, dear. The show will begin tomorrow and continue the day after."
"Geez, Sawyer Jones, can you just spill the tea?"
Abigail narrowed her eyes at him, eager to know more. She was curious, but it seemed Sawyer had no intention of sharing.
"I just worry that they will cancel their wedding." Abigail continues.
"Don’t worry, they are definitely going to get married. I will make sure they don’t cancel!"
Sawyer added, noticing her pout. "My little wife, that’s all I can say. It wouldn’t be as fun if you knew exactly what would happen, right?"
***
Tensions are running high at Charlotte Morgan’s residence after Walter Jones’s marriage to Hannah Walker is announced on the J Group’s official website.
Charlotte never expected Walter to reveal his marriage to Hannah before their son’s wedding.
"Walter Jones, you’re such a jerk! How could you break your promise?" she shouted in frustration, gripping Harvey’s iPad.
"Mom, calm down. This won’t improve that woman’s image. Even though Dad has legally married her for a long time, she’s still labeled a homewrecker. There’s no need to be upset about it."
"Besides, she won’t be able to come with Dad tomorrow. I made it clear to Sawyer that his mother is not allowed to attend my wedding."
"Are you sure? Your father will bring her!" Charlotte said, doubting Walter would do that.
"Haha, Mom, don’t you know Sawyer? He won’t let anyone insult his mother. Especially not in public; he will definitely stop that from happening."
"I still doubt it, Harvey," Charlotte sighed deeply. It would be embarrassing if Hannah showed up tomorrow. "The news out there is starting to blame me, too."
"No worries, Mom, she won’t come! There’s no need to stress about anything. And I will ensure that no negative news about you gets out there."
Harvey quickly contacted his hacker to make sure there were no unfavorable stories about him and his family, especially about Charlotte Morgan.
However, shortly after, his expression darkened when he received a report that the police had begun investigating their secret website, "The Fact."
