Chapter 214: Eventful night (3)

"Master!" Jasper called as he ran toward where Orlork laid. "I must. No, I can’t."

Jasper had been indecisive about when to wake Orlork but after the news he received, he was leaning more toward waking up Orlork. He was only afraid of how Orlork would react to being woken up now.

Once he opened the coffin, there wasn’t any going back so Jasper had been running around in circles all day. He had been so stressed that he shifted out of his control, turning into a bat when he shouldn’t.

"He said to wake him if there is trouble and there is trouble but what if this isn’t important enough and he tries to kill me? I am too young to die," Jasper said, reconsidering his decision.

When Jasper entered the room where Orlork and the others were, he regretted his decision even more.

"If I wait too long and this gets out of hand then he will not be happy with me and I cannot have master unhappy with me. Should I wait for news of his father waking? Why did he give me this task?" Jasper wondered, stressed out from having to make the decision.

Jasper regretted not pushing harder to join the servants who went to sleep with Orlork. He was tired of looking after the home, flying around behind Selene and Xavier secretly to keep them safe, and getting rid of the shifters from the palace who would not stop watching the pair.

"I have already gotten the blood," Jasper said, setting the glass to the side. "I must do this."

Jasper decided to get it over with fast so he placed his hands on the coffin and opened it. "Master!" He called, expecting to see Orlork open his eyes right away but this did not happen. "I did it wrong. Did he go to sleep wrong and he’s been dead all this time?"

"Oh no!" Jasper cried out after he turned into a bat again. "Master, you must wake up."

Jasper knew he made the mistake of not looking into what needed to be done once the coffins were opened.

His bad luck seemed to spread as all the other coffins in the room opened at the same time like they shared one mind.

"Jasper, how many years have passed? You should have learned to be quiet by now," came a voice from a coffin.

Jasper cried tears of joy. "Master, I didn’t kill you. It doesn’t feel like it has been long since you went to sleep. I lost count of the years but I know it has been more than ten years."

Orlork Blackthorn continued to lay in the coffin as the rest of his body slowly woke up. "Why did you wake me if it has only been around a decade? Is my father awake?"

Jasper managed to shift back into his human form. "No, your son is the reason I have woken you. I received word from one of your followers that he is pushing for Xavier to be stripped of the Blackthorn name if Xavier doesn’t follow his orders. Nathaniel has been gathering the Blackthorns to have a family meeting."

"Who gave him the power to do so?" Orlork asked.

"He has given himself the power as the elders are following what he wants. There seems to be a vote on whether they will wake you or your father first. No!" Jasper exclaimed, rushing to Orlork’s side. "You mustn’t get up yet. You must give your body time to fully wake up. I have your blood."

"I don’t have time to be resting if Nathaniel is making a mess. My father must not wake," Orlork said, still attempting to get out of his coffin. "That boy never learned. Where are my other children?"

"Nathaniel sent for them. Ragnar has come once and I have seen Camilla at the gates but she doesn’t come in. It is expected after what you did," Jasper said, hoping there was a chance for the ruined relationship to be fixed. "Should I wake your wife?"

"No. She warned me of killing me whenever she would be woken up so let her rest for a hundred more years. The blood," Orlork said, holding out his hand for it. "I will need a lot more after this."

"I will get a lot more for you and all the others," Jasper said, watching as the other servants started to sit up. He was happy to see some familiar faces.

"Master, the reason why your son is acting like this is because your grandson has gotten married. He got married without the Blackthorn’s consent-"

"Who is she?" Orlork asked, pleasantly surprised by this nice. Who convinced the stubborn boy to get married?

"She is Selene Harrison. You weren’t around to know but her family is no more respected because they tried to kill the king. It is that as well as Xavier was meant to marry the princess. The marriage to the princess was set up by Nathaniel but it was bound to fail since Darius and Xavier do not get along," Jasper shared.

Jasper wondered what Nathaniel was thinking to be so confident Xavier would want to marry into Darius’s family.

Outlook drowned the glass of blood and started to get out of the coffin again. "A Harrison? I must see her. Is she with child?"

"Not that I have heard. Your grandson still orders his guards to aim for anything that lands on his estate so I have to be careful. He nearly turned me into food for his dogs. A child won’t come soon with all the plans Nathaniel is making to ruin the marriage," said Jasper.

Jasper was nervous if Orlork deemed this to be worth waking him for. "Did I do good?"

"You did. I must intervene before they wake my father and ruin our chances of seeing that boy have a child. You must send servants to bring all my children to me now along with my grandson and his wife. This must end now," Orlork said, annoyed he had to wake up to family drama.

"I will. If I may, master. Have you accepted his wife?" Jasper asked, puzzled by why Orlork wasn’t angry.

An attempt on the king’s life angered all the other families.

"How can I make my judgement of her when I have not met her? There must have been something special since he picked her. I am more interested in seeing what becomes of his children. His power is that of my father’s," Orlork said, looking forward to what Xavier’s children could do.

"My son," Orlork said, holding onto Jasper to keep himself balanced. "Power has gotten to his head. Is he not the same one who went off to marry a girl of his choosing and then begged me to accept her?"

"He was," Jasper replied. He vividly remembered the mess that was made then. "You gave him what he wanted and now you have Xavier. Is there anything else I can do for you before I gather them?"

"Yes. Prepare to move my father here. No one will wake him," Orlork replied.

Orlork knew his father would push for Xavier to marry into one of the other families but Nathaniel was unaware of the other trouble it would bring. Only Orlork knew of what his father planned to do once he was woken up.
