Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 165: Beating
Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Beating
Adeline sat cross-legged on the old floor mat of their tiny apartment, a warm smile on her face as she talked to her little sister.
"In one week, everything will be better," she said happily, folding some clean clothes into a small bag.
"We’ll move to a nicer place, and you can go to school every day without worrying."
If she won the case against Henry, she would get a total of $100,000! It would be more than enough to live a good life!
Her seven-year-old sister, Nia, giggled and hugged a small teddy bear with missing stitches.
"Really? That means... I can wear my school shoes again!"
Adeline nodded, patting her head gently.
"Mm-hmm. And we can finally get you that big notebook with the unicorn cover you liked."
Nia’s eyes sparkled. "Yay! Then... then can I meet Miss Dawn too?"
Adeline paused. Her smile turned a little sad. She looked down for a second before replying,
"Not yet, sweetie. Miss Dawn is very busy right now. But one day, I’ll see her again. When I become a doctor, I’ll go thank her properly. I won’t ever forget her kindness."
Nia smiled brightly. "Okay! Miss Dawn is like a fairy."
Adeline laughed softly and nodded. "Yes. A very kind fairy."
Just then—KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—someone knocked on the door, hard and loud.
Adeline’s smile faded instantly. She stood up quickly and told Nia, "Stay here."
She tiptoed to the door and looked through the peephole.
There was a man in a cap standing outside, head slightly lowered.
"Who is it?" Adeline asked sharply.
"I’m here to deliver court papers," the man said in a flat tone.
Adeline blinked. Court papers? Maybe it was something from Miss Dawn’s lawyer. freēnovelkiss.com
She hesitated for a second, then slowly unlocked the door.
The moment she opened it—her heart dropped.
It was Henry.
He stood there with a dark look in his eyes, smirking in a twisted way.
"Hello, Adeline," he said, voice low.
Adeline gasped and quickly tried to slam the door shut.
Henry was stunned for a moment, then his face twisted in rage.
"You little—! Don’t you dare shut that door!"
He threw all his weight at the door, trying to push it open.
Adeline gritted her teeth and used her full strength to push back, heart racing with fear.
"Nia!" she shouted in panic. "Call Miss Dawn! Tell her I’m in danger!"
Nia’s eyes widened in fear, but she nodded fast. She ran to the table and grabbed the old cell phone, her hands shaking.
She found the number and called.
The phone rang once... twice...
Then it connected.
"Hello?! Miss Dawn? My sister is in danger! There’s a bad man trying to—!"
BEEP
The phone screen went dark.
The battery had died.
"No!" Nia cried, holding the phone tight. Tears rolled down her cheeks. "Please... somebody help..."
Back at the door, Adeline’s arms were trembling.
Henry’s strength was too much. He pushed harder and harder, and the door was starting to open wider.
"I’ll teach you not to mess with me!" Henry yelled, red with anger. "You think you can file a complaint against me and get away with it?!"
Adeline’s heart pounded. Her hands were sweating. Her legs were weak.
But she still pushed.
"Henry, you were in the wrong in the first place!"
"B*tch open the door and I will tell you who is wrong and who is right!" Henry shouted.
Adeline’s younger sister came to push the door along with her, and just when they thought the door would be closed completely, the force from the other side increased, followed by Lucy’s shrill voice,
"Adeline you b*tch come out!"
Henry and Lucy pushed harder—and with one final shove, the door burst open.
Adeline stumbled back, falling hard onto the floor.
Her elbows scraped against the rough mat, and pain shot through her arms.
Before she could even get up, Lucy and Henry stepped inside and kicked the door shut with a loud bang.
The lock clicked.
Adeline’s heart sank.
Henry had his face full of rage. Without a word, he slapped Adeline across the face—hard.
Her head turned with the force, and a loud crack echoed in the small room.
She tasted blood in her mouth.
Henry grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her head up roughly.
"How dare you?" he shouted, his breath hot and full of hate.
"You think you can take me to court? You think you’re some kind of hero now?"
Adeline winced, trying not to cry.
Her face throbbed. But she didn’t answer. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction.
Nia screamed,
"Let go of my sister!" and rushed at Henry, punching him with her tiny fists.
"Don’t hurt her! Don’t hurt my sister!"
"Stupid brat!" Lucy shouted and grabbed Nia by the arm. With one swing, she slapped Nia across the cheek.
The little girl let out a cry and fell to the floor, holding her face and sobbing.
Adeline’s eyes widened. Her whole body froze—but only for a second.
"Don’t touch her!" she screamed, voice shaking with fury. She tried to stand, but Henry pushed her back down.
Lucy looked down at Nia, then at Adeline. She smirked, her voice cold.
"Fine. I won’t touch the kid again... if you let me beat you instead."
Adeline stared at her, breathing hard. Her face was still stinging from Henry’s slap. Her whole body ached.
But when she looked at her sister—scared, crying, hugging the teddy bear tightly—she made her choice.
"Okay," she whispered. "Just don’t hurt her again."
Lucy grinned like she had won something big.
"Good girl."
She stepped forward and raised her hand—then hit Adeline right across the face. Again. And again.
Adeline didn’t fight back. She just covered her stomach and tried to protect her head. But every slap, every kick made her want to scream.
Nia cried and screamed from the corner, "Stop it! Please stop!"
Adeline’s lip was bleeding. Her arms were bruised. But her eyes stayed locked on her sister.
As long as Nia was safe, she could take it. She would take it.
But deep inside her heart, a fire was growing.
