Chapter 221: A Deal pt.2

Blaze’s pov

"What even is this deal supposed to be about?" I questioned and this time, he clearly perked up.

"It’s about your throne, and my younger brother." He revealed and I rolled my eyes.

"I’ve gathered that already. But, what’s the details of this deal supposed to be about?"

Kendrick pursed his lips for a moment. "Your father is in consideration of making my younger brother is heir. I heard for a few trusted sources that’s it’s already being worked on, and no offense dear cousin, but the entire council of the clan are on the same footing as him. They’re all in support of Kai accenting the throne since they all have an... unpleasant image of you."

I let out a bitter scoff. "If you think I’m bothered about that, you’re wrong. I’m not. Besides, you clearly don’t know my father like you’ve assumed because my father would never make someone not baring his name, his heir, because if he does that, that would put an end to the reign of his name, something my father would never let happen." I explained while putting out my second cigarette once again.

Kendrick laughed as if already expecting my response. "Correct. You’re right, which is why Kai had agreed to take on your father’s name before accending your father’s throne." He revealed and I searched his face for something to give him away and reveal that he was lying, but I got none. I was definitely still gonna make my own research on this.

"And your father isn’t gonna do anything about that?" I drawled and Kendrick crackled.

"We both know your father controls everything and every one in the family. My father cannot object if he wants to, and we both know Kai would do anything your father asks of him or expects of him without hesitation."

What he had just said was nothing but the truth, everyone in the family knew that even though they sometimes like to pretend like that wasn’t the case.

I shoved my hands into my pockets and stepped closer to him, nose wrinkling a little on noticing that his scent resembled Kai’s a little.

"What’s your proposition? Where is all of this leading to?" I asked without beating around the bush. This close proximity affected him a little but he still squared his chin defiantly as he responded.

"I want you to get Kai out of the picture, and fight for your throne– which rightfully belong to you." He revealed and my lips twitched in amusement.

"Unlike you, Kendrick... I don’t fight for anything." I remind him.

"That’s right. But... this situation is different, and you’re not particularly fighting, you’re just taking Kai out of the picture. Once you do, there’d be no one else in consideration for the throne except for yourself." He explained, expression determined.

"Kai isn’t a threat to me, Kendrick." I snapped and Kendrick flinched a little to my pleasure. He might be older than I am, but he clearly still respected me. Or perhaps he’s just frightened like everyone else, which isn’t a bad thing.

"I know he isn’t, Blaze." He called my name for the first time and it grated my nerves a little but I ignored it as he continued.

"But he is a threat to me, which was why I decided to come strike a deal with you." He revealed and once again, I was reminded of the fact that he and his younger brother hated each other.

"What do you want me to do about it?" I asked and this time, he flashed me a grin.

"If we strike a deal, you’ll help me get Kai out of the picture, and I’ll tell you about a lot of things which you’ve definitely been dying to know about." He explained and I leveled him with an unimpressed look.

"Basically, you want me to kill your younger brother, right?"

He nodded once. "Correct."

Brothers killed each other everyday so this wasn’t something surprising to me.

"Which clearly means you want me to do this for you because you want to escape the backlash, no?"

He breathed out a small sigh before shaking his head. "I don’t care about that, but I do know that not a lot of people would be able to confront you if you do it."

In as much as what he just said was a little flattering, I still didn’t think I want to have anything to do with him.

"What even makes you think I want my father’s throne enough to put myself through a little stress? You want me to kill Kai off because he might become king, but we both know that if you hadn’t chosen to be rebellious, you’d have been the one in Kai’s shoes right now, you’d have been the picture perfect son, and everyone would be in support of you taking the throne. Tell me, If that had been the case, would you have wanted me to kill you?"

His lips thinned once I was done speaking and he inhaled sharply.

"Kai took my birthright, and he had the audacity to threaten to behead me when he becomes king. It’s only logical that I get him out of the picture before that happens, no?" He shot back, jaw clenched a little and as I regarded him, I felt a little pity towards him. It must have sucked to watch his brother get accepted by everyone while he was on the side.

"If I agree to this agreement, what would I get in return?"

He had a on pleased expression this time.

"You know I was always around way before you were born, right? Which also means that I know a lot of things. I can tell you about your real mother for example, because I don’t think you’ve heard a thing about her, much less knowing who she was."

~~~
A lot of things was on my mind as I strolled down the sidewalk of the busy road. The encounter I just had with Kendrick had left me feeling extremely puzzled and curious.
I didn’t give him a clear answer, I told him I’d get back to him after thinking about it.
Now, I’m supposed to head back to school, but I feel too unsettled to do that.
I’ve always been curious about my mother. About who she was, what she was like, and if she had a family. Having Kendrick offer to tell me about her was unexpected, and a little suspicious, because it rubbed me the wrong way that he knew exactly what to put on the table to snag my interest.
I was certain I’ve never revealed my desire to actually know who my mother was to anyone before. I didn’t know a single thing about her that whenever I dream about her, all I see is a faceless woman.
The encounter made me feel more weird than I’d like.
Which was exactly why I told him I’d think about it.
