Chapter 239

Blaze’s pov

I laid labyrinth in one of the large rooms and draped the covers over his body. He had begun to doze off when I still had him over my body in the sitting room, but now his sleepy eyes fluttered open.

"I have to go take care of the mess Kim is in like you want me to." I informed him, stroking his hair out of his face. He leaned into my touch and sighed softly.

"Don’t be long." He finally whispered and I leaned down to brush a kiss across his forehead, promising him that I’d be back in no time.

When I pulled away, I felt a small pain in my chest. My wolf really does not want to be away from him right now, and from the small wince on his face right now, he felt the same pain I had just felt.

As I stared down at him, everything within me was asking me to get into the bed with him and hold him against me till he falls asleep, but I knew I needed to take care of the mess with Chris tonight.

I leaned down and carefully brushed his hair away from his throat, eyes landing on the mating mark I gave him. It was an ugly wound, one which seemed like it was stabbed with a knife. Although it was no longer bleeding, it still looks raw and painful. When I grazed it a little, a pained whimper spilled from my mate’s throat.

"Shh. It’s okay." I whispered soothingly before tilting his head backwards and exposing the back of his throat to me, and then I leaned down and closed my teeth across a pinch of his skin, administering a settling bite to him. He mewled, stiffening for a moment before sagging into the bed as everything bleed out of him.

I stroked his cheek as I watched sleep pulled him under after a few seconds. As I watched his sleeping form, I felt relieved that the settling bite had worked, because that means even though the mate bond between us was slightly damaged, it was still there no matter what.

When I exited the bedroom, I closed the door quietly and after getting a drink of water from the kitchen, I went off to look for Kim. When I walked past an opened room, I backtracked on noticing some movements and as I stood at the doorway, I noticed Roy and Kim in a hug. It seemed like Kim was sobbing into Roy’s chest.

My mouth twisted into a displeased line and Roy noticed my presence moments later. I turned around and walked away, leaving them to themselves even though I wanted Kim to stay far away from Roy.

I was in the kitchen when Roy arrived. He said nothing as he walked up to the fridge and brought out some drinks. I knew he wanted to ask me to not let Kim die, but at the same time, he wanted to respect my wish. Not like he even needed to ask that of me, since I already promised my mate I wouldn’t let Kim die.

"Why do you like him?" I asked him as he handed one of the drinks to me. He downed a mouthful of alcohol before responding.

"I actually don’t know. His personality, perhaps." He responded with a small shrug.

"Do you really like him? You don’t even know him." I shot at him and he rolled his eyes.

"I’d definitely like to get to know him. He’s very intriguing and I just like everything about him, I guess."

I pursed my lips, feeling irritated. "You should stay away from him, he’s a very horrible person."

At this point, Roy barked out a laugh. "Aren’t we all? We’re all sinners in different ways." He explained after downing another mouthful of drink.

"He doesn’t deserve you. You’re too good for him." I said after a long stretch of silence. Which was nothing but the truth. I might not show it often, but I care about Roy a lot, he’s the closest thing I have to a brother and I always want the best for him.

"You always said your mate doesn’t deserve you." He pointed out and I scoffed.

"Of course he doesn’t. Do I look like someone who deserves to be mated to someone as good and selfless as Jules?" I questioned. "See how he put his life at risk because of that kid? How, even though Kim put his life in danger in the past, he still asked me to protect Kim tonight. This is why I still insist that I don’t deserve him, just like Kim doesn’t deserve his forgiveness and worry."

Roy blinked slowly. "Wait, he asked you to protect Kim?" He asked and I rolled my eyes.

"What do you think? Of course he asked me to do that, and you know I can’t say no to him." I responded with a scowl, but Roy engulfed me in a hug, thanking me over and over again for not refusing labyrinth’s request.

I ended up shoving him off and warning him to not disturb labyrinth when he talked about wanting to go thank him.

I found Kim at the doorway, doing his shoes up. When I asked him for the address Chris sent him, he stared at me in confusion at first, but when I told him I was accompanying him in order to go kill Chris, he almost fell over himself while trying to express his thanks to me.

I held a hand out to stop him. "It’s not me you should thank. I wouldn’t have done this if my mate hadn’t asked me to." I spoke coldly and he flinched.

"I- I can go thank him right now." He stuttered and I shook my head.

"You’ll do no such thing. He’s resting now. I know you’re confused after all what you witnessed today, but you’ll keep it to yourself and never reveal a word of it to anyone. If you do, I’ll make my mate kill you like you watched him kill someone today." As I spoke, he swallowed emptily and assured me he’d never dare do such a thing.

"You had better keep to your words, because if you ever betray me or my mate, you’ll regret it tremendously. On moving forward, since I’m gonna be saving your life tonight, you’re gonna keep working for me and that entails you always putting my mate first and protecting him to your best capacity. Even though he didn’t die today, he could have almost died. You should never have let him walk through that portal no matter what, and I’m hoping next time, you’d keep him from putting himself in danger no matter what. Failure to do that would result in you losing your own life." Once I was done speaking, he nodded slowly and let out a small breath.

"Although... Now that he has powers, how am I supposed to stop him from doing anything he wants to?" He asked and I dwelled on the question for a moment. An image of him being in charge of the situation when he brought down Andrian flashed before my eyes but I pushed the thought away, that part seemed to have disappeared from him so I didn’t think Kim needed to worry about that for now.

After a few more rules, we exited the house for the address on Kim’s phone.

When we arrived there, a few guards were outside but I easily took care of them. As I drained the life out of them, resulting in them turning into sand, one of the things I learned about myself in that creepy room back in the demon clan I visited with Roy, flashed before my mind.

In other words, If I didn’t want that to happen, I wasn’t supposed to keep draining people’s energies this way. But that was the quickest way to kill people instead of fighting unnecessarily.

When Kim stepped into the room, Chris was only in boxer shorts and instantly ordered Kim to undress, but when I showed up in the doorway, he yelped, lost his footing and instantly tried calling on his guards, but when I informed him they were all dead, he settled on trying to reason with me and convince me to spear him.

I took a seat and ordered him to tell me everything my father was planning and what he wanted to use my mate for. I’ve known Chris for a long while since he began to work with my father, and I knew he hated me and was afraid of me– rightfully, but I’ve always ignored him since I deemed him irrelevant.

At first, he claimed to be completely clueless but when I broke his jaw with a single punch, he realized that I wasn’t joking around.

After all what he ended up revealing, I was beyond shocked. Then with his thumbprint, I got into his safe, retrieved important documents that belonged to my father, and everything about my mate which was also documented in a section labeled ’important’.

After that, I killed Chris, retrieved his phone, then set his house on fire.

As I exited the scene with Kim, I knew my father was gonna show his hand next, because what I had just done was more or less a direct challenge at him.
