Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Return to Huating Again.
Huating.
The butler, hearing a sound, came out to greet them and saw Pei Yu’s silhouette, hazy in the night. He had his head slightly bowed, his expression cold. As he walked into the brightly lit courtyard, a pale red flush on the side of his neck became visible – likely the result of drinking quite a bit at the dinner.
After the guests had gone in, she quietly inquired of Secretary Qin, “Did he drink a lot?”
Secretary Qin nodded.
Pei Yu had a good tolerance for alcohol and rarely got drunk, but he felt that it might have been better to get truly, completely drunk.
The butler couldn’t help but be nosy, “Did you encounter Miss Shen?”
The place of fame and fortune was where they were most likely to intersect, and although it wasn’t certain they would meet, the butler still asked.
Secretary Qin still nodded, “We did, but we didn’t talk.”
The whole time, they acted like strangers.
The butler sighed helplessly.
It was already very late, but Pei Yu had no intention of resting. He leaned back on the sofa, covering his eyes with his hand, his tiredness evident. His brows remained furrowed, a sign that he wasn’t feeling well.
After preparing hangover medicine, the butler was about to return to his room when he remembered something a maid had inadvertently found while cleaning earlier in the day and he stopped, “Mr. Pei, today we found a script left behind by Miss Shen in the secondary bedroom. Shall we send it to her?”
Zhiyi had a habit of keeping scripts and occasionally looking through them. This one must have fallen unnoticed into a corner of the desk and been hidden by the carpet. She hadn’t realized it when she left.
His long eyelashes fluttered slightly. Pei Yu didn’t open his eyes, but spoke indifferently, “Who will send it?”
The butler was taken aback by the question.
Of course, anyone could send it. She was quite available. If all else failed, they could use a local courier…
She measured her words, “I could go—”
Pei Yu lowered the hand that had been covering his eyes and glanced over without expression, giving a slight sneer.
Such an attitude from the boss was certainly not one of approval, so the butler immediately acted as if he hadn’t said anything, “What would you like to do?”
Staring at the ceiling for a while, Pei Yu massaged the throbbing center of his forehead. He was uncharacteristically off tonight, having drunk too much and made himself thoroughly uncomfortable. Not wanting to think further, he stood up and went upstairs after dropping a detached comment.
“Let her come and get it herself.”
Following the boss’s wishes, the butler called Zhiyi the next day to inform her of the situation.
When the butler’s phone call came through, the phone was still in Xiaodong’s bag, who waited beside the makeup artist preparing Zhiyi for her makeup. Catching sight of the caller ID, Xiaodong jumped in surprise, “Sister Zhiyi—”
Currently having eyeliner applied, Zhiyi looked up from the mirror with a puzzled expression and glanced at Xiaodong, “What’s wrong?”
Xiaodong hesitated, “There’s a call.”
After makeup was done, Zhiyi found a moment to call back.
The butler spoke first, “Miss Shen?”
Zhiyi responded, somewhat surprised to be receiving a call from the butler. She hadn’t been in contact with these people since leaving Huating and, of course, she had no reason to contact them.
The butler spoke in a gentle voice, “It’s like this – a maid cleaning the room found one of your scripts that you had left behind. I wanted to ask if you still needed it?”
“A script?” Zhiyi hadn’t noticed she was missing one, but it was indeed possible she had left something behind, “Yes, I need it. Could you send it by local courier?”
She cherished the past, always keeping these things, and there was no reason not to retrieve something if it was lost.
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible,” the butler said with difficulty. “Could you come to Huating to collect it?”
Since it was her own carelessness that had caused the trouble, and the other party seemed inconvenienced, it wouldn’t be right to insist, so Zhiyi thought for a moment, “Then I’ll send my assistant to pick it up.”
“You should come in person,” the butler explained, “Huating has updated its security system, and it’s not easy to let outsiders in and out.”
Shen Zhiyi fell silent for a moment, not really wanting to return to Huating, but given what the butler said, she couldn’t have someone else go retrieve it on her behalf.
She had no choice but to nod, “Mm, then I’ll make time for a visit. Would around five o’clock this afternoon be okay?”
“Certainly.”
The crew had only recently resumed work for two days; several camera directors were still engaged in other projects, so the filming progress couldn’t pick up speed. After completing her own scenes, Shen Zhiyi had Xiaodong take her back to Huating.
Huating looked no different from half a month ago, with the butler waiting at the entrance. He smiled upon seeing her, “Long time no see.”
Shen Zhiyi smiled back, having not expected to see him again.
“Take a seat and have some tea first,” the butler had already prepared tea and refreshments, “I’ll go get the script from upstairs.”
After a while, footsteps descended the staircase. Shen Zhiyi looked back, following the sound, but it wasn’t the butler who came down.
Being at home, Pei Yu dressed casually and comfortably. Yet the soft fabric of his lounge clothes couldn’t conceal the sharp edges of his presence. He descended the stairs step by step at an unhurried pace, his profile cold and pale.
It was only when he drew nearer that he lifted his eyelids to look over, noting the emotions Shen Zhiyi couldn’t hide, “Surprised to see me?”
Shen Zhiyi averted his gaze, “I thought you weren’t here.”
Pei Yu spoke indifferently, “Sorry to disappoint you.”
His tone was light, yet his words were piercing, and Shen Zhiyi fell silent again.
When the butler came downstairs, he found the two seated apart from one another, neither speaking. The longer the silence stretched, the colder Pei Yu’s seemingly unemotional face became.
She hurried down the stairs, “I’ve brought the script.”
Shen Zhiyi accepted the script, “Thank you, I’ll be leaving now.”
“Won’t you stay for a meal?” the butler tried to retain her, “Dinner is ready; you could eat before leaving.”
“No thanks,” Shen Zhiyi didn’t look in Pei Yu’s direction, “I’m on a tight schedule.”
The butler was anxious, glancing towards Pei Yu with words on the tip of his tongue, “Sir—”
Just say something.
Pei Yu stood up, but instead of heading towards Shen Zhiyi, he walked towards the entrance without looking back, his tone slightly heavy, “I won’t be in your way here.”
She didn’t want to come, didn’t want to stay here long—it was all because she minded him.
Watching him leave was an unpleasant feeling for Shen Zhiyi, but she couldn’t quite pinpoint if it was due to Pei Yu’s attitude or something else. She just felt that even pretending to be strangers, not exchanging a single word with Pei Yu, would be better than listening to his cold remarks now.
The butler asked cautiously, “Would you stay and finish your meal, please?”
The dinner was specially prepared with each dish tailored to Shen Zhiyi’s taste. Pei Yu had even reviewed the menu once, and the butler had thought he would dine together with them. He hadn’t expected such an outcome.
Shen Zhiyi ate the meal quietly and the butler stuffed her with a bunch of snacks. Xiaodong was surprised to see her carrying things out, not expecting the people of Huating to be so attentive to their guests.
As he drove, Xiaodong suddenly remembered something, “Sister Zhiyi, did you return that cufflink I found in the car last time?”
There had been no chance to return it then, and now she had come to Huating.

Shen Zhiyi was taken aback by the question. She turned to look out of the window and answered vaguely, “I forgot.”
She had never thought about returning it.
Pei Yu’s gifts, she hadn’t taken a single item with her, except that cufflink, which she consciously kept.
