Extreme Pampering-Chapter 83 - His Phone Call
Chapter 83: Chapter 83 His Phone Call.
Chapter 83: Chapter 83 His Phone Call.
Pei Yu arrived at the agreed-upon location and saw a large crowd of people, immediately realizing he had been duped, yet Qin Fang showed no self-awareness, enthusiastically waving, “Brother Pei, come over here!”
He walked over with a cold face and kicked Qin Fang first, extremely annoyed, “Find somewhere quieter.”
“Don’t be like that,” Qin Fang said with a cheeky grin as he tried to put an arm around his shoulder, “I organized this gathering, there’s no riff-raff, don’t you want to drink? I’ve collected a few bottles of red wine for you to try, today I’ll drink with you until we’re both drunk.”
He clearly had put a lot of thought into this, deciding only after deep contemplation that Pei Yu, having been separated from Shen Zhiyi for just half a month, might still be longing for her, and couldn’t be left alone during this time. The most effective method was to find a new love, for with new love, who would still pine for the old one?
Although Qin Xiaoran scolded him for his reckless ideas, Qin Fang proved with his own experience that this method was quite effective, so he specifically set up the gathering, calling an array of people—models, actors, artists, all included.
Pei Yu didn’t indulge him, finding the place too noisy, and had someone open a private room instead. He agreed to Qin Fang’s invitation, not to drink, but because he didn’t want to stay at Huating.
The party Qin Fang organized was not as devoid of riff-raff as he claimed; the threshold was clearly not too high, especially since there were quite a few artists there, and it was inevitable that the word spread.
Xu Xia received the party’s address from a friend and knew the opportunity she had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Things had been going suspiciously well for her lately; Shen Zhiyi and Pei Yu had broken up, giving her a chance to approach Pei Yu again.
She didn’t believe she couldn’t beat Shen Zhiyi.
Using ‘feeling unwell’ as an excuse, Xu Xia took leave from the director, changed into a cocktail dress in the car, took great care with her appearance, and when she glimpsed a passing figure outside the window, she had her assistant drive back.
“Sister Zhiyi!”
The car drove back, and Shen Zhiyi looked up from her script, Xu Xia lowered the window to talk to her, “Are you filming a night scene today?”
The two were never close, but she seemed to always conveniently forget that fact, putting on an affectionate and familiar façade, while Shen Zhiyi was cold and didn’t want to chat further, walking past the prop team using an alternate path.
Yet, Xu Xia called after her again, “Sister Zhiyi, I am going to a party, do you want to join?”
Shen Zhiyi kept walking, “No need.”
“I heard Mr. Pei is also there,” Xu Xia said with a smile, flicking her hair, “Many of my artist friends have gone, I plan to check it out too, are you sure you won’t come?”
Shen Zhiyi came to a halt.
Xu Xia had insinuated something with her remarks, and Shen Zhiyi picked up on the implication. This party was probably not just for simple fun—otherwise, it wouldn’t have attracted so many artists.
Or in other words, it wouldn’t have attracted Xu Xia.
Her target was Pei Yu.
Unable to continue reading her script, Shen Zhiyi was not the least bit surprised by this development; she had known all along that it would come to this, hadn’t she? This was normal, this was what everyone expected.
But now that it had actually happened, she couldn’t contain her emotions with just reason alone. Her heart was aching, she took a deep breath, not wanting to show any weakness in front of Xu Xia, knowing too well why Xu Xia was telling her all this.
She turned around, her expression calm, “If I say I’m also going, would you still be able to smile?”
Using Pei Yu to provoke her was despicable and foolish of Xu Xia. Since they had already separated, why should she care about a past love?
The smile froze on her face, Xu Xia slowly cooled her expression, squeezing her palm tightly.
In the end, she still feared Shen Zhiyi might go back and entangle herself again; perhaps Shen Zhiyi really did have something special to charm Pei Yu.
Shen Zhiyi continued walking forward, paying her no more attention.
But she crumpled the script in her hand.
Half an hour later, Xu Xia arrived at the party location, not spotting Pei Yu in the main hall; she guessed he might be in a private room and asked a waiter to take her there.
If it were a usual day, the waiter would definitely not entertain such a woman with obviously ulterior motives, but today Qin Fang had instructed him, so he did not intervene much.
Standing at the entrance of the private room, Xu Xia nervously checked her makeup for the last time. Her previous failed attempt at approaching left her with a considerable shadow. She both feared Pei Yu’s indifference and longed for his power. If she could win the favor of such a man…
She pushed open the door.
Surprisingly, the room was empty.
At this time, in the upstairs private room.
Qin Fang was shut out of the door, pleading pitifully, “I’m sorry, wasn’t I just trying to introduce you to other girls? With so many people here today, didn’t you find any to your liking?”
Pei Yu replied with a single word.
“Scram.”
He had only been in the private room for a short while when one woman after another came up to him, and without thinking, he knew Qin Fang was behind this. Annoyed, Pei Yu couldn’t be bothered with him.
Qin Fang sulked and finally resigned himself, “Are you going to keep thinking about Shen Zhiyi?”
Inside the private room, Pei Yu heard the name and closed his eyes. He had tried his best not to think about her, yet people around him kept bringing her up. Was it really him who was hung up on Shen Zhiyi, or were these people the ones who couldn’t let go?
Thinking about it, he found it ridiculous. Perhaps it was his abnormal behavior that made these people brood over it, convinced that he couldn’t forget her.
His mind was clouded, and he spoke wearily, “Don’t bother me.”
Qin Fang immediately fell silent, cowed.
Alright, he had already annoyed Brother Pei today; it was best to be a bit more measured.
Around ten o’clock, Shen Zhiyi finished work and went home. She lived in a house rented by Wang Feifei for her, one with one household per floor. It was a bit too large for her, quite empty.
Before going to sleep, she did her skincare routine. As she stood at her vanity, her phone rang. She turned to answer it, knocking over a bottle of lotion in her haste, creating chaos. Without looking at the screen, she answered the call and quickly set the bottle upright again.
Outside the window, the city lights were dazzling. One could see a corner of a landmark building. Pei Yu rarely got this drunk, somewhat unable to differentiate the days, he had dialed the number subconsciously because he felt uncomfortable.

He hung his head low, his voice sounded both muffled and hoarse, barely intelligible.
“My head hurts…”
The familiar voice came through the phone, echoing in the spacious bedroom as if it could stir reverberations. Shen Zhiyi stopped all movements immediately; the lotion bottle she had just propped up was knocked over again. She ignored it, blinking after a long while, she looked blankly at her phone, the call still ongoing.
“Pei Yu,” she said with some confusion, “did you dial the wrong number?”
Silence spread silently.
Pei Yu lifted his head, his grip on the phone tightened, the veins on the back of his hand standing out. He closed his eyes, his Adam’s apple moved twice, and he managed to squeeze out a word.
“Hmm.”
Shen Zhiyi set the lotion bottle upright again, the tabletop a mess. She spoke softly, “Then I’ll hang up.”
There was no further response from the other end. She waited a few seconds and then hung up the call.
After a few “beep beep” tones indicating the call was disconnected, Pei Yu still held the same posture. He repeated the opening line of the call very low, almost under his breath, his lips turning white from the pressure.
“My head hurts.”
