Chapter 39 - Betrayal

He managed to hold himself up with the other three rocks, but that forced him to move gently to one side and spend more time, which made him a little desperate.

He knew that if the rock couldn't support his weight, it would be impossible for it to support the tank's weight. So he had to carefully choose the rocks nearby, as there were still people behind him who needed to follow him. If one had fallen, it meant that it wasn't a good place to step.

That's why he took his time trying out different rocks until he found the right one.

'Phew...' After filling their lungs with air, the three continued on their dangerous path, but Elliot climbed more calmly, praying that nothing would happen up there.

Luckily, the rocks were solid from then on, so he encountered no other problems. Soon, there was only one meter left, which Elliot quickly passed.

When he reached the top, he realized that the fight was still going on, but he couldn't see it. 'They had to move to the side, possibly to take better advantage of the terrain and avoid a landslide. Smart strategy.' He smiled and quickly helped Jenna up.

Then, between the two of them, they helped the tank with a strong pull, which finally allowed them to breathe deeply.

The big man smiled at Elliot. "Thank you. Thank you very much." He even bowed his head.

But Elliot shook his head. "There's no time to waste. Let's hurry, they've moved to another spot."

Elliot drew his sword once more and took the lead. Jenna followed close behind, with the tank trying to keep up.

As they ran through the trees, the sound of battle grew louder, so the tank drew his sword, ready to attack.

Elliot quickly tried to get ahead, but suddenly frowned.

"What the hell is this?"

He was forced to stop when, in front of him... there was no one actually fighting. There weren't even any Orcs, just a few people sparring while others laughed loudly.

While in shock, he suddenly turned his head back to dodge an attack from above.

"An assassin?"

He swung his sword, trying to impale him, but suddenly, a long, heavy sword struck him hard from behind.

Elliot was sent flying forward, and when he came to a stop, he was in the middle of a group of powerful people, the ones who had been playing around earlier.

Now they were all looking at him, so he was surrounded.

As he fell to the ground with a terrible pain in his back, he frowned and brought a hand to his back, feeling a stinging pain there.

He had a deep, long wound that started at his shoulder and ran down to his lower back, but because of the adrenaline in his body, he felt no pain.

That was because he realized something.

He turned and focused his gaze on a man, the tank.

"Damn... traitor," he growled, his hands shaking with rage when he realized he had been attacked by the comrade he had just saved his life, three times in a row!

This tank wasted no time and took out his shield. "Traitor? Heh, this is called murder for convenience."

Elliot wanted to slit his throat right then and there, but when he saw the assassin who had attacked him at the beginning, he frowned.

'Support magic...'

He followed the line of magic and realized she was the second woman in the group, the support.

'I don't see Chris or Rich...' He tried to look for them among the attackers, but with a glance, he realized they weren't there.

They had been good to him, and despite finding out what his nickname used to be, they didn't discriminate against him. On the contrary, they gave him a voice in the team, and he was practically the second leader.

That's why it would affect him visibly if they were among the traitors.

"If you're looking for those two, heh heh... They're already dead. They had good strategies against the beasts, but... In the end, they were just little fry." A man stepped forward from the crowd and made his clothes flashy.

"A servant of the Clarks, eh?" Elliot grimaced and tightened his grip on his sword. "As expected, my awakening has really scared all of you."

"Hahahaha, how could we be afraid of a useless guy like you? It doesn't matter if you awaken, Elliot Clark, you're still going to die."

"We'll see about that."

Although he wasn't a very good strategist, or at least he didn't think so, he still started working his mind, trying to devise a plan of action. But suddenly he heard a noise.

"HUAAAAAAH!"

Or rather, several roars.

His body was forced to stomp his feet as four powerful tanks and one not-so-powerful tank (the traitor) activated their abilities to attract his attention.

He was forced to face them despite knowing that they were trying to manipulate him through their abilities.

This was the first time he had experienced the power of a tank's ability.

"Shit..." He gritted his teeth and tried to resist, but in the end, he was in trouble.

His skill wasn't focused on any of that; it didn't give him any protection or a way out of this type of situation, so he was forced to keep his eyes fixed on those guys.

'I just need to eliminate one of them to undo all this stupidity.'

So he lowered his body slightly to attack, but suddenly, a voice reached him.

"Now, Elliot!"

It was a woman's voice that left him stunned.

He turned toward Jenna and realized that she had struck the assassin and the tank that had attacked him earlier. The same tank now had a clear line drawn toward him, forcing him to pay attention to it.

Because of Jenna's blow, both flew toward him, creating a clear opportunity.

Elliot smiled broadly and immediately jumped toward that bastard, not wanting to waste such a tremendous opportunity.

The assassin was too weak for him, so he focused on the tank... Although the tank was weaker in reality, he simply wanted to kill him.

All traitors deserve death.

He came at him at breakneck speed and swung his sword at his neck.

"I considered you a good comrade, that's why I saved you three times. But you're just scum, just like all of them. That's why your death will be the first." With hatred, his words were framed in a mind that soon began to fade as his head was severed from his body.

This broke the tanks' pattern, as one of their abilities was deactivated, allowing Elliot to kill the assassin in the same move.
