Chapter 35: Hell Below as it is Above

『That is basically the four types of Superficial in a nutshell...do you have any other questions』

Said the System.

Adam on the other hand, replied back.

"No, I dont.... Aghh!!...

Adam said, however, as he stood on the pressurized air construct made via magic, blood started to pour out from his mouth, his vision blurred, and his fingers at this point were bleeding non-stop.

But it was his inside that was hurting the most.

"Shit... not going to lie, Eternity is cool and all, but what good is eternal life, without even the most basics of healing factors."

That aside though, as he kneeled down his body shaking in pain, a familar voice echoed in his head, one he had not heard in years.

[Notice!! You have accomplished a feat, your Lore has been updated]

"Los...deus...

Adam spoke weakly, his voice shaking, as his consciousness tried to remain a beacon to the waking world. However, he couldn’t process it properly, but he struggled through the internal pain nonetheless.

[Notice!! Your Lore Core has been updated with a new Lore]

[Congratulations!! A New Lore Ability Has Been Obtained: Black Swarm]

Adam exhaled sharply as the voice of Losdeus continued to play in his head, causing him to say.

’This familar feeling of getting stronger... it’s the same feeling I had when I was first reborn into this world.’

Said Adam to himself, as Losdeus spoke once more, explaining his new ability.

[Lore Ability: Black Swarm]

- Black Swarm will allow the user to control his feathers, every one of them as if they were extensions of their own body. With this power, the user can launch them as projectiles, reshape them into weapons, or fuse them to create feather constructs. The feathers of the user are normally soft but can instantly harden to become tougher than steel.

Also when a feather pierces a target, these feathers can drain the blood of the enemy or leave wounds open, causing continuous bleeding. The closer the inflictor is, the worse the bleeding of the inflicted gets. However, if the user moves more than 1 kilometer away, all wounds inflicted by the user’s feathers will disappear completely. But the moment the user comes back into range, the wounds reopen instantly, and the bleeding resumes, and overtime worsens until the enemy is dead.

This was the new lore ability Adam got his hands on, or rather, it was his first Lore ability that the universe rewarded him with.

On that note, however, the System soon began to talk again, saying.

『Well good job on killing the Aderyn, even though it was a baby by all accounts』

Said the System, causing Adam to ask.

"Say...

"...What exactly is that godamn bird ability?"

He asked, and when she responded back to him, he was genuinely shocked.

『According to the Archives, this ability is called Predator Howl. When an Aderyn screech and someone hears it, any living creature made of flesh or organic matter is affected. Reality twists around the target as it follows a conditional means of effect, and pieces of their body, both inside and out, are erased randomly. The closer you are, the more devastating the damage, with entire large chunks of flesh exploding and vanishing in an instant』 frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

『The only way to escape the Predator Howl is to completely block out the sound. If even the slightest trace of the screech reaches your ears, the effect will take hold, and your body will start to break apart. That means simply covering your ears with your hands won’t work, you’d need a perfect seal, like specialized earplugs or magical sound barriers. The only other option is distance. If you’re far enough away that the sound doesn’t reach you at all, you’ll be safe. But if you’re within range, even at the very edge, you’ll still suffer minor injuries. The closer you are, the worse the effect』

Adam still very much in pain, had a dumbfounded look on his face as he processed the information. He was glad he hadn’t underestimated that thing.

"Ahh, what a messed-up ability... but it’s dead now."

He muttered, forcing a weak chuckle through gritted teeth. His hands trembled as he pressed against his own chest, trying to suppress the pain wracking his body.

"No use thinking about the dead... I need to heal... and I need to heal qui...

FWOOOSH!!!

A deep, flapping echoed across the sky.

Adam’s words caught in his throat.

His body suddenly froze in fear, instincts screaming at him before his mind could even process what was happening. He slowly turned his head, his vision still blurred from exhaustion and blood loss.

And then his eyes open wide.

"Y-YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING MEEEEE?!"

He shouted in horror.

A storm of shadows spread across the distant sky, an unholy wave of black wings stretching endlessly across the horizon.

More Aderyn’s.

Not just one.

Not ten.

But hundreds of them.

At that moment, his reaction to danger kicked in and he made an air barrier around his head, blocking out any sound but his own.

They weren’t fully grown, but their sheer numbers alone made his heart pound in terror.

They weren’t fully grown, but their sheer numbers alone made his heart pound in terror.

"An army of babies is bad enough... but that large one at the back is freaking me out more than the collective of them."

He said to himself, looking at the giant creature that stood out the most in that unholy hoard.

A behemoth among them, its wings casting an enormous shadow over the land below. Its sheer presence swallowed the sky, its massive form easily rivaling the tallest of buildings one can find in a modern-day world.

Adam felt the blood drain from his face when he looked at the series of monstrosities coming his way.

His attention shot downward, this was not a fight he could handle, and to be real honest it wasn’t one he intended to get involved with.

And faster than he had ever reacted before, he dove off the invisible structure beneath his feet and entered the dense forest of the Paffora.

A place that was by all means, Hell.
