Chapter 45: Danger at The River

It had been two hours since Adam defeated the Bulgae and left the spot where the battle had taken place.

The wind howled through the dense forest, rustling the thick canopy of leaves as a black blur zipped between the trees, and through the thick Miasma mist. Adam moved with inhuman agility, flipping, twisting, and rebounding off the thick branches like a seasoned acrobat.

Things he as a normal hum from Earth was unable to do in his past life.

His movements were fluid, almost effortless as if gravity itself had decided he was beyond its control.

If one were to see him now, they would have been left speechless. After all, what kind of five-year-old could perform feats like this? His body twisted midair, flipping off a tree trunk before diving headfirst toward another. A quick handstand kick sent him spiraling upward before he grabbed onto a branch, using it as a launch pad to propel himself forward.

Ever since coming to this world, Adam had realized one undeniable fact, even though he is human in this life again, he was no ordinary human in any category whatsoever.

His new existence as a Shinso Human had completely altered his physical capabilities. His flexibility bordered on absurd, allowing him to contort his body in ways that would break a normal person.

Despite his slim physique, his strength was monstrous, he could lift small boulders with ease and shatter large trees with a single strike. But his speed... that was something else entirely.

After a short period of training, his current top speed had reached an astonishing 90 km/h. At this speed, he could scale hundreds of meters in mere seconds.

The world around him blurred as he moved; each step was taken into account, every leap perfectly measured, to prevent him from messing up his parkour. His surroundings barely had time to register his presence before he was already gone.

And yet, he remained cautious.

This was not just some casual run through the forest. The deeper he traveled, the more Superficials he encountered. And Adam was very aware of this, for that reason, he came prepared reflecting back on the magic lessons Priscilla taught him.

He really and truly did not want to run into more Type 1’s and 2’s, and god forbid Type 3’s. Now type 4’s yeah... they are very dangerous no question ask, but if you go into a labyrinth, and die, that was on the idiot who went in in labyrinth in the first place.

And last time, Adam checked, he was no idiot.

After all, he knows his limits better than anyone else.

That was why he had taken extra precautions this time.

His body was surrounded by a spherical yellow magic circle, a stealth spell. Though it was clearly visible to him, to others without a contract with a Light Spirit, he was completely invisible. novelbuddy.cσ๓

Given that this was no ordinary concealment magic.

It was a fundamental-type spell, a type of magic that is distinct from construct-type magic, which shaped elements or other unique instances into coded functions. Instead, fundamental Magic is a type of magic that tampers with the foundation of reality itself, enabling both scientific and supernatural applications. By manipulating reality’s framework, they allow for spells for logical alterations as well as outright miraculous phenomena.

Adam had achieved invisibility through light magic, bending light around his body to make himself unseen. Since sight required light to process color, he had effectively removed himself from the visible spectrum...as such, against normal sight, he was a ghost.

Still, he remained focused.

Yet again, he leaped over a fallen tree, rolling upon its massive branch and landing on it safely before propelling himself forward once more.

He had memorized the map by heart...his next destination was a river that marked the near-closing point of his journey.

Another few minutes of breakneck speed later, Adam finally arrived at his intended location.

"Ahhh, finally."

He said, as he looked onwards at a large stretch of river.

The river stretched far and wide, its waters dark and sluggish.

Looking at it really made Adam twist his face in disgust as he said.

"Ew!...not going to lie, is it really supposed to look like that?"

He asked, and the System answered, saying as such.

『Not really...this is an extreme case of Miasma pollution. The water has been steeped in the forest’s thick Miasma for so long that it’s become something else entirely, a physical embodiment of corruption. Even the most basic body of water here is now a concentrated source of Miasma. If a normal human were to drink it, their body would twist and mutate on the spot, their very essence hollowing out. Best case? They die screaming, their mind shattered by madness. Worst case? They turn into something unspeakable』

Upon hearing this, Adam responded.

"Yikes! Talk about a cruel way to go. Either way, I gotta thank Priscilla someday for doing what she did for me. not going to lie; Miasma is some deadly stuff, especially when humans come in contact with it."

『It is indeed... Just be happy you’re built differently from other humans』

Said the System, causing Ada, reply back, saying.

"Hehehehe... I am not complaining, you know."

"But either way... base off the map, we close to Clan Ultima... but not going to lie, this journey has been a pain."

『At least you stronger though』

"Yeah, I did, but either way, let’s get moving. I really do hope they have clean water there, though. I could really go for a nice bath."

Adam said as he leaped forward towards the river.

Ancient trees lined its banks, their roots creeping out like skeletal hands reaching for the water.

The sound of flowing water was oddly subdued, as if the river itself was whispering. Rather rather the best way to describe it was that the madness of the Miasma-filled water was starting to become tangible, and the river itself was tempting anyone foolish enough to jump into it.

On that note, however, Adam landed on a tree near the bank, as he looks around.

"This place really does give me the creeps compared to other parts of this messed up forest."

But as he took in more of this cursed view, that was when he heard it.

A cry for help.
