Chapter 51: Kiera & Nyla I

Adam’s words hung in the air, and Kiera could only stare at him, her golden eyes wide with disbelief. He claimed he wasn’t an angel, yet everything he did screamed otherwise.

He had no reason to save them, no obligation to help. And yet, he had stepped in without hesitation. If not for him, she and her sister would have been nothing more than corpses, lost to the Antmen’s merciless attack on the two of them.

They had survived, and that alone was a miracle.

But survival came at a cost.

The pain of losing everything...her home, her people...hit her like a blade to the heart.

She was sure, given their village’s current situation, that the invasion of the Antmen army that attacked them, that they were as good as dead.

She had no time to grieve before, but now, in the stillness of the aftermath, it consumed her. A shudder ran through her body as silent sobs wracked her frame. Slowly, her head lowered until her forehead touched the ground.

She had nothing left.

The large army crowding the village as she ran with her sister still stays printed in her mind even now. If they were at full power, even an army that large would be a breeze to deal with. But the Bloom basically nerfs them in several different ways.

Adam let out a small sigh, watching her break down in front of him. Without a word, he reached out and gently placed a hand on her head, fingers threading through her hair as he rubbed it in slow, comforting motions. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

He didn’t know the full story, but it was clear that things had gone terribly wrong in her clan.

Why else would they be out this far from it?

Then they were also being chased down as well.

His thoughts drifted in that moment.

As he said to himself.

’Minerva... What exactly is your plan here? Did you really send me just to deliver a letter, or is there something else going on?’

He could never fully understand his bis sis motives. Minerva always had layers to her actions, some obvious, others buried under a mountain of mischief.

Still, now wasn’t the time to think about that.

For now, he simply let Kiera cry.

Minutes passed before her trembling finally subsided. With a deep breath, she lifted her head, wiping away the lingering tears before bowing deeply.

"I’m sorry, Lord Adam."

She murmured, her voice still raw with sadness.

"So much has happened to the clan... I just...

She hesitated, gathering her thoughts, before lowering herself further. Her bow was elegant, practiced one of deep gratitude. Hands pressed together, back straight, her torn black-and-red kimono fluttering slightly with the motion.

Adam tilted his head at this formal presentation of hers.

Her demeanor... the way she carried herself... it reminded him a lot of the old-fashioned elegance found in Japanese nobility.

It was almost nostalgic, given these were common behaviors in Japanese-made games.

Still, as much as Priscilla had drilled proper etiquette into his head, Adam had never been one for unnecessary formalities during their non-combatant lessons.

Right now, none of that mattered.

With a lazy wave of his hand, he stopped her, while saying.

"...You don’t have to be so formal with me, you know."

He said casually.

And then continued speaking.

"Yeah, I know I’m from the Shinso family and all, but honestly? I’m not really into people bowing and treating me like royalty... I am kind of like Minerva in that regard; she can go about getting drunk alongside the commoners of the village because she doesn’t discriminate between species, nor does she care for standing in the way, most in royalty typically does."

He added quickly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I just... I’d rather you act normal when it’s just us... Okay?"

Kiera blinked, taken aback by his words.

Then, slowly, her lips curled into the faintest of smiles as she said.

"You really are a kind person, aren’t you, Adam?"

This caught Adam by surprise as he began to reply back, saying a such.

"Ahh... Hahahaha... Well, I just help where I can, you know."

He said, releasing a light laugh.

On that note, however, he soon began to hear the groans of Nyla as she started to open her eyes.

Adam turned his attention to Nyla, watching as her eyelids fluttered open. She let out a weak groan, her body still sluggish from the trauma she had endured. Her silver colored eyes slowly adjusted to the dim light, scanning her surroundings in confusion before they settled on Kiera.

"Sis...ter?...

Nyla’s voice was hoarse, barely as loud as a normal whisper.

Kiera immediately moved to her side, gently holding her trembling hands.

"Nyla! You’re awake!"

Relief flooded her expression, but there was still a hint of worry lingering in her golden eyes.

But the moment Nyla’s eyes fully opened, they went wide in pure terror. A violent shudder ran through her frail body as she gasped sharply. Her breathing turned ragged, erratic as if she was being suffocated by something invisible.

Her gaze darted around wildly, and for a brief second, all she could see was him.

The shadowy figure that had loomed over her.

The one who tore her apart, limb by limb, before her mother came in to save her despite being injured herself.

A sickening crunch echoed in her mind, followed by the excruciating sensation of her arm being ripped from her body.

Then her leg...

The memory was fresh and vivid, the feel real and detailed.

The trauma of the attack hit her, and at that moment, she began to scream in pain.

"AhhAHHHAAAH...AAAhhhhAAWWWaawwwWW!!"

Kiera flinched but immediately grabbed Nyla, wrapping her arms tightly around her trembling form, pressing her sister’s head against her chest.

"Nyla! It’s okay! You’re safe! I’m here! Please, just breathe!"

But Nyla didn’t hear her.

Her remaining hand clutched at the space where her missing limb once was, fingers digging into empty air as if trying to reclaim what was lost. Her body convulsed in sheer panic, her breath coming in sharp, hyperventilated gasps.

Adam cursed under his breath.

"Damn it... She is deep in PTSD shock."
