Chapter 68: Where is Nyla?

The malformed werewolf lay still on the ground, dead in every sense of the word.

Its body, once a grotesque mass of muscle, flesh, and glowing parasitic veins, was now nothing more than a hollow carcass. The crimson spider lily in its eye had withered into a black, shriveled-up state.

In regards to the body itself... No trace of life remained whatsoever. The beast had no heartbeat... No muscle movement... Not even a soul lingered in its shell.

His life function had all been erased, causing the cells inside to die and wither, converting living cells to dead cells.

The Authority of War had done its work... and then some. But there was no satisfaction in victory. To be honest, this was his way of getting back at the enemy who had hurt his first friend in this world.

After looking down at his work, his mind switched back to Keira. At this point, he was wearing a new feather fit, but that aside, he rushed to her side.

"Keira...

He called out ot her, falling to her side.

And as he looked down, he swallowed his spit in horror, seeing the damage down to her with that one attack that left a massive gaping wound at the center of her chest.

The werewolf’s massive fist had punched straight through her, the wound wide enough to nearly rip her in half. Her torn kimono, scorched at the edges and soaked in blood, as it clung weakly to her fragile frame.

Adam dropped to his knees beside her, his voice trembling.

"Stay with me, Keira... I’ll fix you up... Just...just stay with me, ok."

But Keira could barely hear him.

Her vision blurred, the world around her fading into darkness. Her lips trembled as blood trickled from the corners, her breath ragged and shallow.

His eyes... darted towards Adam, the closest thing to her. She could not feel anything below her neck, but those eyes told him everything.... "Please help me, I don’t want to die."

"Just relax, I will fix you up in no time."

Said Adam, as he began to activate negative touch in order to activate positive touch to heal her, but Adam could not help but wonder how the hell Keria found herself in another life and death situation all over again.

Because for the second time tonight, she stood at death’s door.

But that aside... Adam’s hands quickly hovered over her as he took a deep breath. It was steady, sharp, and pressed his palms gently against her stomach. The familiar warmth of Positive Touch surged through his fingertips, golden light blooming across her broken chest like dawn breaking over night.

Her ruined flesh shimmered as she lay beneath a large pool of her own blood.

Muscle stitched itself together. Bones cracked and reformed. The massive puncture through her chest began to shrink as new tissue blossomed beneath the light. Her collapsed lungs reinflated slowly, like a phoenix drawing its first breath after resurrection.

Her petite body trembled as the loss sensation began to return.

And soon after...she was fully healed.

And then...

GASP!

Keira took in a deep and long breath as she gasped heavily for air.

She sucked in a desperate breaths, then another, as the shock flooding her lungs with air. Her fingers clawed weakly at the ground, her body reeling from the pain of being reconnected to life itself.

Her voice caught in her throat as her head lolled toward Adam.

"I... I...

She said, still shocked about the whole situation.

However, before she can even continue, Adam merley place a finger on her lips, as he said.

"Shhhhhh!"

He whispered gently.

"You’re okay now."

Her eyes settled on the young boy, and at this moment, Adam appeared entirely human. The distinctive feline ears and wolf-like tail were no longer visible, seamlessly retracted by his conscious control.

Earlier, he had realized he could switch between his primal form and base appearance at will. Yet, the absence of these external features did not mean a loss in power, for his physical capabilities remained unchanged.

This was because Adam’s physiology was fundamentally different as a Shinso Human.

In truth, even among Shinso beings, who were already considered to be at the very top of their species... Adam stood out as an anomaly... A singularity within a singularity.

This means that he wasn’t just rare; he was the only one. Across all the infinite branches of possibility, of time, of space, there was no second version of him that was of the current species he is... No counterpart... No peer... and best of all no competition of the same species.

His body could best be described as an evolutionary anomaly designed to accept, integrate, and optimize any genetic trait it encountered once his specific conditions had been met.

And unlike other species, whose evolution is constrained by gradual mutation and environmental pressure, Shinso Humans function as adaptive generalists at the genetic level with their local adaption.

As such, their biology was fluid.

The simplest way to put it was the fact that Adam’s body had become a living bio-library, a literal organic database of evolutionary blueprints.

But the moment Keira tried to move, she realized something else.

Her kimono had been torn during the attack.

The top half had slipped, revealing her exposed, blood-smeared chest, barely shielded by the tattered fabric.

Adam, however, looked at her and questioned himself, saying.

’Am I going crazy, or did she randomly spawn a new kimono out of nowhere? I am pretty sure she ripped out of the last one when she transformed alongside Nyla, so how the hell is she wearing a new Kimono now.’

He said to himself, utterly confused as to why she had on a new kimono, despite how wrecked this current one was at the moment.

But that aside, he didn’t want to come off as a creep.

So, before she could react, Adam averted his gaze, and without hesitation, his dark wings shimmered, unraveling into a cascade of silky black feathers. The feathers coiled around her small frame, forming a soft, protective shroud over her shoulders and chest to cover her up.

"There."

He said softly.

"That should cover up your half-naked body."

Keira pulled the feathered cloak tighter, her expression flickering between embarrassment and gratitude. A small, breathless smile tugged at her lips as she said.

"I owe you my life yet again...sigh! I feel bad knowing that all I can give you in return at this point for your medical services is a Thank You."

Keira said to Adam with a defeated look. On the other hand, Adam just replied back, saying.

"And my answer ot that is the same as the first."

He made clear smiling...but it quickly faded as Adam’s voice grew firm in the next instance.

"There is much I want to ask you, but those questions aside, where is Nyla?"
