Chapter 75: Playing Smart

"Ahhhh... would you look at that, he is half dead... Either way, any last words, kid?"

The masked vampire asked as he started to come fully into view with each step echoing into the deep underground cavern.

His manner of walking seemed relaxed, as one hand was resting casually on his hip.

But despite that, Adam did not reply.

On the other hand, he stops just moments from him as the clink of his boots scraping against stone.

"Nothing? Not even a death glare? That is just sad."

He tilted his head in disappointment, his white mask gleaming under the purple bioluminescence crystals from the cavern’s mossy ceiling.

His blood-red eyes then flicked over Adam’s motionless form, slumped against the shattered wall. Blood matted his feather-like cloak. His arms hung limp at his sides, one leg awkwardly twisted...while his head lolled slightly, mouth half-open.

And as if to confirm his disappointment, the vampire sighed to himself, saying.

"...What a fucking let down...pup or not, you got werewolf blood in yah, but I guess the pussy side of yo made you a lot softer than even that of a real dogs."

He said as he began to raise his hand slowly upwards, palm open to the ceiling like he was calling something down.

A moment later, blood started to seep from his skin...not just his palm, but through every pore of his hand and along the length of his fingers. It slithered between the claws at his fingertips, rising into the air in thick, fast streams.

The swirling red liquid glowed faintly, pulsing as it gathered above him. It didn’t splash or drip; it moved with purpose, molding itself into shape. In just seconds, the giant mass of blood twisted and stretched until it formed the outline of a weapon.

It did not take long before the weapon itself began to fill the outline and take shape as it formed into a giant war hammer.

The thing hovered in the air for a moment, still glowing, before its surface started to change. The liquid began to harden, veins of black creeping through the red like cracks in heated glass. Then, with a low, sharp hiss, it fully solidified, becoming harder than even layered steel...

CRACKKK!!

And moments later, he began to easily raise the great hammer above his head, the thing easily weighing roughly 3 tons.

"Well then, little mix-breed, it’s been fun... but it’s time I put you down and turn your skull into soup, so without further ado, dieeee!"

The vampire said.

And shouted near the end, and without saying anything else, he followed on his violent nature.

And he brought the giant hammer down with great force, squashing everything below its flat dent surfaces.

BOOOOOOM!!...CRACK!!

Stone exploded in every direction, dust and fragments bursting outward as the hammer slammed through Adam’s chest and shattered the wall behind him. The sound echoed across the cavern like thunder.

The vampire grinned at the sound.

But that grin soon became a confused frown.

Because the body wasn’t falling.

It was... dissolving.

Fading into smoke... As black and violet mist curled and rose upwards in place of where Adam’s body had been.

"What the?...

The vampire took a step back and froze, surprised at the sight of a decoy.

What he didn’t notice, however, was the faint shimmer behind him. The wall pulsed slightly, just enough to signal something was coming.

It was faint... Barely audible.

A large silver magic circle was glowing softly behind him as it curved and spiraled, a series of spirit runes was coded into it. Meanwhile, black Feathers floated around its edge and got caught in a slow orbit.

The vampire turned just as the magic snapped into place, sensing something was wrong, but it was too late; the spell had already been cast, and it was too fast to react to.

FWOOOOOOOM!

A loud cutting sound could be heard cutting through the air.

As a piercing blade of heavily compressed air roared out from the circle, and black feather wrapped around the attack itself...it was too fast to dodge and much too fast to react to. Not only was it extremely thin and sharp, and deadly. It carved through the air at lightning speed, as nothing more than a black light was seen, as the feathered blade was sharper than any modern-day saw.

And then....

SLICCCE!!

Like a heated knife cutting through butter, the vampire’s head cleaved itself cleanly through his neck, going so fast he didn’t even see it coming.

"...w-What... GHYAKK!!

He said, but he ended up swallowing his own words as air and blood leaked out of his cleaved neck.

His body kept walking for another two steps, hammer still raised, until he dropped like a puppet with cut strings. His head tumbled end over end before landing with a thud on the ground below as it began to roll from his body.

THUD!!...

The decapitated vampire has a shocked look on his face. As he was still very much alive, after all, mere decapitation would not kill one like him so easy, but it was how quick, and how it even happend that took him by suprise

"Is...is that my body?"

He asked as he saw his own corpse laid before his eyes, still holding his blood hammer, which soon cracked into thousands of pieces.

However, he was soon taken by suprise when the sound of footsteps came closer.

His eyes darted towards the direction.

From behind a mound of crumbled stone, the real Adam limped out.

His arms hung low, shaking from the strain. One eye was nearly swollen shut, and one of his legs was dragging behind him with every step. The only thing keeping him upright was raw will.

He looked down at the headless vampire, smiling at his work, as watch how pissed he seemed.

"...Dumbass."

Adam spat at him, clearly hoping to get a rise out of him.

As he spat out another glob of blood and looked down at the severed head. It was still conscious. Its eyes darted toward him, glowing with rage.

"Kahkaaajhaa... y-you bastard."

The rolling head said, glaring at Adam with intense malice and hate in his eyes. Meanwhile, Adam gave him a smug look as he began to use positive touch to heal his body.

But while he did this, Adam began to berate him back, his childish voice echoing into the cavern room.

"Y-you...

He started off slowly, then proceeded.

"You really thought I was just sitting there waiting to die, did you?"

Adam asked, a small chuckle escaping his lips.

"Hehe!!... How gullible. Hehehe...

He continues to laugh.

"Honestly, I can’t stop laughing when I think about it."

"...Honestly? I didn’t think that surprise attack would actually work as well as it did. I mean, for a monster, you’re pretty damn blind. Then again... you are a bat, so I guess that explains a few things. Still...how blind do you have to be to not tell the difference between miasma and an actual body?"
