Chapter 98: Conclusion To The Night XI
"Maître... are we truly going in there?"
Clara asked Adam, her voice was calm, composed, as always, but Adam heard the tight edge beneath it. That subtle tremble buried under poise.
Her crimson eyes stayed locked on the swirling mass of Space Astrum, with magic circles rotating on the wall, as the tunnel led to a dead end, and this was what was at the end.
Adam didn’t miss a beat. He replied honestly, after all, he needed to get to the other side of the magic portal at all costs.
As such, he replied back.
"Afraid so, servant of mine...why do you ask?"
Asked Adam, both arms crossed, as he looked ahead at the portal.
Clara didn’t budge at his reply, but she would be lying if she said it did not worry her. Because after becoming a vampire, her sensitivity to danger has reached a high level of awareness.
And she tries to make this clear to Adam as well.
"Pourquoi? This presence... mon Dieu...it feels vastly worse than Casimir... Far worse, mon Maître."
Adam exhaled slowly through his nose.
He could feel the danger too, and it was not nice, not nice at all.
"Yeah... That tracks."
He said as he tilted his head toward the gaping void ahead.
"No one needed to tell Adam what’s waiting on the other side of this portal, he already knows who...so the intense aura screaming danger at both of them, so much so, instincts alone would make them run away, then that makes sense. If it’s Yarquella... that kind of dread is just the opening act."
Everything pointed to her after all, the abnormal vampire behavior, the attacks, the twisted sickness plaguing Ultima Village and its residents.
It’s clear... vastly clear... Discord was here on his family territory.
Echidna even confirms this.
Then again, the real reason Adam was on edge had everything to do with the world he was now trapped in.
Every character...villains, protagonists, side characters, female leads, hell, even background extras were undeniably stronger than their canon versions.
It was like someone took every power system imaginable, fused them together, and layered them with new, broken mechanics...well, that is technically what happened as a result of his DLC wish, but you get the gist.
Naturally, this universe was crawling with ultimate versions of every character he has come to know in video games he has played, turning his isekai journey into something that felt less like a power fantasy and more like playing Call of Duty on realism mode...no HUD, one shot, you’re dead.
Adam sighed again sighed again just thinking about it.
’Perfect example of post-nut clarity kind of scenario...without the sex bits, of course, but hey, I got my chance to get my DLCs back in this world... heheh.. so like hell I am making good money go to waste.’
He said to himself.
But thinking back on his sister’s words, he could not help but also think.
’But... I don’t need to fight her either. Just get close enough to drop off the letter. That’s what Minerva said.’
His hand brushed against the sealed letter tucked in his inner pockets, as he thinks back on the original person that this letter was for.
But he wondered we the letter had not been opened yet.
Casimir hadn’t triggered it. Neither had Cecil, much less Clara. That could only mean one thing: the letter was rigged to respond to something greater, like a full swarm of vampires.
’...Or maybe it would have opened if Meowroar had touched it.’
It was clear that Minerva was suspecting Meowroar for some reason.
Minerva had also said the people this would call forth would be his new mentors, alongside them. But who the hell could she possibly summon strong enough to fight this version of Yarquella? Even Echidna said Minerva was clueless about the real enemy, so prepping with her in mind was not a factor that Minerva had on her side.
So many questions. But Adam shook his head.
’Deliver this letter close to the main enemy, and bail... no use overthinking it.’
From there, Adam began to walk towards the portal. Clara followed behind. The portal itself was already coded to another location; reading the codes on it, Adam could tell it would take them somewhere in the monster world, exactly 95,294,604,857,948 miles away from here.
Touching it, the gates of magic reacted.
And he heard the System’s voice.
『Master, you have grasped the spell Spatial Warp』
’Hmm... So I guess this would count as magic being used for the first time, ha?’
『Yes and No... what the Gate of Magic counts as seeing for the first time, is actually the magic circle itself, since the magic circle for this is still active and out in the view like this, you can copy it with ease』
’I see... yeah, that does make sense... well, I am not complaining, I love magic, it’s the second best thing only to woman, to be honest, I follow my sacred self belief of the great Triad practice, or as I like to call them... the 3 M’s of a happy life... First comes Milf’s, the final form of a womans beauty is their milf stage, fight me on this, I will stand by my intrest. Second is Magic for obvious reasons, the power to cast spells to solve almost every problem across the board, it’s the ultimate life hack, as it is the ultimate hobby. And third is Money, or anything that revolves around the concept of currency... It’s the one that will assure happiness if all other things fail, everything else after that is just minor pleasures, or dust in the wind to me.’
Adam said to the System, and ended with.
’Honestly, Priscilla’s classes during training time in terms of theory and physical are by far my favourite subjects, I can’t wait to learn more magic spells under her.’
Moments later, Adam began to look more closely at the circle. It was simple in principle if you understood the spirit language, what the purpose was for it, and the sorts... But the complex part was actually coding the spell to actually work, and to make it remain fixed in reality after it has been cast until the caster deemed it unnecessary to keep it active.
’So basically, this spell is a fundamental type spatial magic spell, using space Astrum, it allows the caster to bend space between two places, and tear a hole between the joint folds to reach point B from Point A. There are two ways to reach where you want to go with this magic spell. That being to place in the literal coordinates in real time, or you yourself have to have been at the location you want to end up prior to casting this.’
’The best part is that the amount of Space Astrum needed to cast this spell is actually a fixed amount. With the amount of Astrum I have, I could easily do this more than a hundred times per day, regardless of the distance being covered. However, if I keep the portal under ten meters, if I make it smaller, it would be even less Astrum, but if it is bigger, then the Astrum cost goes up.’
Adam said to himself mentally as he looked at how this spell worked. But at the same time, he was casting two more spells, seeing they were already properly coded, he cast them into being.
And with a wave of his hand, a golden circle bloomed beneath his and Clara’s feet.
Seeing her master cast another spell naturally grabbed Clara’s attention as she glanced down, arching a brow.
"What does this spell do, mon Maître?"
"Cloaking, my dear Clara."
Adam replied with a grin.
"I see... Hmmm, how envious, you’re just five years old, and yet from what you have shown me so far, I can say without a shred of doubt that you easily surpass all of the royal arch mages under the throne of France. I have never seen this type of magic before... If you were alive in my time, you could easily become the next Divine Sage."
Clara commented.
Causing Adam to chuckle as he replied.
"...Well, the magic I am currently using is what my big sis taught me... So the credit goes out on her, but I won’t lie, in this world, I can say without a doubt no one in this universe can use magic better than I can, even my big sis would be akin to nothing more than a shadow of my shadow if we were to be compared. She might have the knowledge, but I have the power."
"Really?"
Asked Clara.
"Yes, really."
Replied Adam confidently.
"I see... although what does this cloaking spell of yours even do, mon Maître?"
"Light magic, my dear Clara. This spell will allow me to bend all visible light away from us... meaning nobody will be able ot visibly see us, because all the light that exists in the light spectrum is being bent away from us."
"But that is not the only thing I am doing right now, this is just one of two spells I am going to cast on us before we cross over to the enemy side."
"Hmm, a second spell, and what might that be?"
"Air magic. Construct-type of course... It’s going to wrap us in a bubble of compressed air which will dampen our sound from the outside world, mask our scent, and add defense."
"Impressionnant...
Clara said in French as she clapped her hands, clearly impressed by how resourceful Adam is.
"Hehehe... Don’t flatter me too much now, Clara."
Adam said jokingly as he finished casting his next spell, and a silver magic circle appeared above them.
Paying extra attention to defense.
Coding a barrier dense enough to withstand the blast of a city-level nuke. Actually... eight of them. It drained a massive chunk of his Air Astrum, but it was worth the price.
And after coding the two circles, they began to take effect immediately.
And then, the two of them vanished. Light bent away. Sound dulled. And the air became stilled.
As the two of them vanish from the sight of the world.
"And that’s about it... We can talk as loudly as we want inside this carefully crafted five-meter air barrier."
Said Adam.
Reassuring Clara of the soundproof domain they were now in, even their footsteps and their natural scent would not be heard or smelled from the outside, once they remained inside this barrier.
Adam then turned to Clara once more and said.
"Although... Keep your guard up, the enemy we are about to face or come close to is strong enough to make even this barrier seem trivial, she is strong enough to baseline blow up several moons with a wave of her hands, so don’t trust its protection too much. Worst case scenario I telport our asses out of there, and hope and pray she doesn’t follow us."
Hearing this, Clara gave Adam a nod to say she understood, but she spoke up, saying.
"Toujours. But maître... if I may... could you make me another one of those feather swords? The last one, il est mort... or in layman’s terms, perish by fire."
Adam’s eyes blinked at her request as he replied back to her, saying.
"Another sword, huh?"
He said out loud, but the moment the topic of a sword came out, he quickly remembered something.
"Wait... yeah. Actually. I’ve got something even better."
Right after Box of Worth shimmered into view in his hand, completely invisible to Clara, but heavy with destiny, as the pure black box just spun above his open palms.
From there, he turned to Clara and asked.
"Hey, Clara. Want a supernatural sword?"
She blinked at these words, her response being.
"A what now?"
"A supernatural sword... Or rather, a soul-bound weapon is a better word here."
Adam said with a smug grin.
"It’s bound to you if you choose to be its master. Grows with you. Evolves with your soul. But there’s a catch."
"...Figured."
Clara commented, making Adam chuckle a bit.
"And what would that be, mon maître?"
