Holy Necromancer: Rebirth of the Strongest Mage-Chapter 1109: Helping the enemy
"The Drike Family is quite scheming." Chronos's expression darkened at the thought. He didn't see Karyk's hand slowly moving behind his back, getting closer.
Karyk's hand, hidden from view, held a small, shadowy dagger. The blade appeared almost invisible in the dim light filtering through the garden.
"Indeed, Young Lord," Karyk's voice was smooth, betraying none of his true intentions. "They are already in conflict with the Angels. It might be the reason for their large ambitions."
Chronos, lost in his thoughts about the implications of the Drike Family's involvement, merely nodded.
"It seems we underestimated their foolishness. To think they would collaborate with someone like him..." He trailed off, his gaze fixed on the token in his hand, tracing the intricate carvings with a fingertip.
"They are desperate for power, Young Lord," Karyk continued, his voice still maintaining its indifferent tone. "From what I've heard, they would do anything to have their revenge, even ally themselves with… questionable individuals."
He took a deep breath. This was it. The moment he had been waiting for. He didn't want to miss this chance with the time reversal. He had only one opportunity, and he had to kill Chronos with a single strike.
Chronos finally looked up, his eyes meeting Karyk's. For a fleeting second, something flickered in Karyk's gaze. His gaze felt completely unlike the usual timidity of Jalen. But it was gone so quickly that Chronos dismissed it as a trick of the light.
"You're right," Chronos sighed, placing the token back on the table. "We need to be more cautious now. I'll have to inform my father about this immediately. The Drike Family's actions could destabilize everything."
"There's no need for that, Young Lord." Karyk's voice was suddenly devoid of all awkwardness, replaced by a chilling calmness. His hand, still hidden behind his back, tightened its grip on the dagger.
Chronos frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Karyk said, his voice dropping to a near whisper, "that you won't be telling anyone anything."
In a lightning-fast movement, Karyk thrust the shadow dagger, aiming straight for the young man's heart. This time, he didn't want to give the man any opportunity to change the present, not even a second for him to think clearly.
The shadow essence within the dagger quickly spread throughout Chronos's body, as his chest started bleeding. The poison in the shadow dagger also started taking effect, slowing down the young lord's thoughts.
Chronos was taken aback by the sudden attack, especially since it came from the person who had followed him for such a long time. Moreover, the chaotic energy that was wreaking havoc on his body felt awfully familiar.
He instinctively reached out, as his eyes started changing color. He tried to reverse time, but something felt strange. The moment he tried to reverse time, he felt a terrifying pain in his head.
"You already told me about your abilities. Did you think I wouldn't prepare for it?" Karyk whispered in Chronos's ear, who had started to panic.
Why weren't his abilities working? That shouldn't have happened! It was as if an unknown force was wreaking havoc inside his body.
He opened his lips, trying to call for help from the guards outside, but he couldn't even utter a single word, as the unknown force had started devouring his bloodline itself.
"You know, I really should thank you for letting me see the memories of your past. If you hadn't shown me the ways in which I had failed to kill you, I might have made the same mistakes."
Chronos's pupils trembled. Even though the frightening essence was already enough to give him some hints, he didn't want to believe it. But at this point, he couldn't reject the possibility, which had become an absolute certainty. The person was none other than Karyk.
He couldn't believe that the person they were trying to capture was right there in their home. And his father had left to discuss how to invade the Aether Realm to catch this person.
He realized that it was a huge mistake that he had made, believing that Karyk wasn't going to leave that place to come after him. Even more frightening was his ability, which had made it impossible for him to see through the disguise.
"I thought about many ways to deal with you after seeing the ways in which I had failed. I thought about instant death, but I couldn't control it. But then I thought of another possibility."
The dagger that had stabbed into Chronos's back started melting, as every particle invaded his body, devouring his bloodline from within.

"The thing that grants you that ability is not your soul. It's your bloodline. So what if I didn't target your body, but your bloodline, confusing it during the moment of activation?" Karyk asked, which made Chronos's eyes widen.
He understood what had stopped his abilities! Karyk hadn't stabbed him with the intent to kill him in the first place. It was only the moment that he activated his ability that his hidden bloodline became activated.
That was the moment Karyk had been waiting for. It was the exact thing that the dagger had attacked, and after his activated bloodline was devoured, his automatic death reversal at death's door also became useless.
"Don't worry. I will treat this bloodline of yours really well," Karyk said, as the dark essence came out of Chronos's body, having devoured his ability genes directly, a process much faster than devouring the entire person.
With his bloodline ability being snatched away right before his eyes, Chronos felt a fear that he had never felt before. He felt like he was completely stripped of everything that he had. His eyes returned to their normal state, as dark veins started spreading across his entire body.
With his abilities being snatched away, he was no different than a sitting duck. In his fear and hastiness, he had made the biggest mistake of his life, and he knew it.
Unfortunately, it was too late to change the past. He could only watch the darkness spread across his surroundings, slowly devouring him completely.
