I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 249: A hug for a minute
Chapter 249: A hug for a minute
Ravi yawned and almost crept back into the covers when he heard a familiar heartbeat next to the bed.
He opened his eyes to see a young teenager sitting at the window, reading a large book that looked like it would be half his weight.
"Good morning, Ravi!"
"Good morning, dear." Ravi begrudgingly sat up, yawning again as he did so, "Ash, shouldn’t you be in school, it is noon." Ravi commented as he noticed how high the sun was in the sky.
Asher closed the book and walked to his bed, sitting down, It is Saturday, Ravi. You have been sleeping for two days."
"Two days?" Ravi’s eyes widened a bit but he thought about it, he had stopped Earth’s time for more than 30 minutes; this body was much too weak to handle that kind of ability, "I was a little tired." He said and he reached out to ruffle Asher’s head.
Asher’s hair was a little longer, reaching the nape of his neck, and his cheeks were a little rounder too. He had missed Asher so much with this case, "Your hair has grown."
Asher nodded, "I need a haircut. I was waiting for you so we could go together. Did you see the serial killer?"
"The serial killer?"
"It is all over the news, our teacher gave us homework on it."
Ravi’s eyebrow moved up in shock, "Homework on Nathan Kim? The Serial killer, why would they do something like that?" Does he need to call the school, while everyone knows that there is a small nut missing at times from the heads of private school teachers; it is supposed to be a small nut and not a large one.
"No. The Homework is for us to write a reflective journal entry about how the arrest of the killer had affected our feelings about safety and how we can contribute positively to community safety."
There was a pang of guilt in Ravi’s heart before he pushed it away. After sessions with Malik, one of the takeaways he had learned was that he should be more forgiving towards himself.
He softened his voice, "I should have asked you that or at least had a conversation about that. How are you feeling about everything? I slept for two days, it must have scared you."
Asher had a calm look on his face but at this moment it cracked into an expression of worry, "I was not scared. I have my necklace and Malik, Lana, and Sage. I can fight too and Arlen gave me a number to call if I can’t call him. I was not scared of him. I have seen crazier people, he is just a coward."
Ravi smiled, "He is really just an evil coward."
"But when I came back and saw you seeing in the parlor, You would not wake up. Malik said you expended a lot of energy and you are tired but it was...I was afraid. You are not going to leave me to be alone, right?"
"Never. I have not embarrassed you in front of your friends like in all those movies. I have to do all those things."
Asher laughed.
"I am fine. You know I am very strong, right? Malik was right; I was just a little tired and needed a little sleep but I felt okay. Don’t worry too much, okay?"
Asher nodded.
"Okay, I won’t. But don’t scare me like that."
"Will do." He ruffled Asher’s head again with a soft smile.
"Ravi..."
"Yes."
"Can I hug you? For a minute."
Ravi froze for a second, but pulled away the covers, pulling Asher into his arms and hugging him tightly, "You can hug me for as long as you want!"
The child smelled like ice cream so early in the morning and his lips twitched. In his absence, he did not want to ask what they had been eating. He couldn’t wait to enter the kitchen and make something very delicious for Asher.
He hugged him a little tighter- he had missed Asher.
They hugged for some minutes before the teenager pulled away, the tips of his ears red with embarrassment.
Ravi pretended not to notice his embarrassed state as he hid a chuckle; he sat up and looked around the room. Noticing the beige sink in the chair was pulled to the middle of the room and there were unfamiliar clothes strung over it.
When he had woken up, he could have sworn that he caught the sweet scent of vanilla. His lisp moved into a smile. Arlen was here, he really wanted to see him.
Asher looked at him and explained, "Arlen has been staying here since yesterday." He paused, "He tried to make dinner."
Ravi’s lips twitched, "Is that so?"
"Sage and Lana said they had something to do and left me with the pot of curry."
Ravi could not help himself from bursting into laughter, "And how was the food?"
Asher did not know how to frame his words so that they would not insult anyone, he coughed lightly and settled for, "It was...interesting."
Contrary to popular opinion, the word, ’interesting’ when drawn out in that particular timbre and tone was in no way interesting.
However, the sentence made Ravi love Arlen even more if it were possible. He knew just how busy Arlen would be these few days. His actions would cause a string of complications and questions that would be difficult to answer.
After Ravi had teleported to the room and stopped time, he had given Lisa time to vent, and had even woken Nathan up so he could answer the questions Lisa had for him. That was what compounded his tiredness, not just pausing the time for Earth but simultaneously unpausing time for just three people. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Initially, he wanted to scare Nathan into not mentioning him at all but the minds of mad people were always...mad so he had brought someone to help.
It was kind of ironic now Ravi thought about, someone who had spent more than 15 years erasing people’s memory to have his own erased. And he would feel it, that gap, always have that feeling that he is forgetting something.
