I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 272: Filling the gaps
Chapter 272: Filling the gaps
Malik listened to him and feeling the cautious emotions directed at him, he sighed, "That truly seems bothersome. One man, all these responsibilities, isn’t the Netherworld afraid of working this King Yama to death."
Ravi expected every response, he had prepared his mind for all kinds of reactions; after all, it was not every day that someone is told that they are the Lord of Judgment for all lives in the Universe. However, His mouth parted slightly as he stared at Malik in shock.
And then he laughed, he laughed so hard he had to clutch his stomach. Yes, this was Malik. He might be a piece of the soul of King Yama but he was still the Malik that he had met that day and who, by some kind of fate had become more than a friend. He had become family.
"It is even more than that; he is the one in charge of exercising punishment on immortals. He might not even get a bonus for all of these."
"How about insurance?"
"You would first ask if there is a salary."
"No salary. Is there no union?"
Ravi laughed, even Sentinels does not have a union, he could just imagine the ghosts and officials of the Netherworld gathering around the hall to have a meeting for the Netherworld Emperor to increase their salary. To say that their souls would not even reincarnate is not an exaggeration.
"That is definitely impossible. Don’t worry, you are not a tyrant. Among the places newly ascended immortals want to work, the Netherworld is number one."
Malik was curious, "Which one is number one?"
"Heavenly Court. Everyone wants to work at the Heavenly Court."
Malik had the urge to roll his eyes. His immortal self must not have had a lot of love for the Heavenly Court.
"How about you? Which place do you want to work?"
"I am a Sentinel. I work for Sentinel Order."
"But between the Netherworld and the Heavenly Court, which one would you choose?" Malik leaned closer to Ravi.
Ravi had a feeling that if he should say Heavenly Court, Malik might just push him off the fence.
"Netherworld. Where else?"
Malik laughed.
"You did not sound sincere right now. Don’t worry, by the time I go back..." Malik stopped here and sighed loudly.
Ravi also looked up, "Immortals cultivate with spiritual energy, I honestly don’t know how it works but I know they undergo various tribulations. One of such tribulations is the love tribulation. Someone came from the Netherworld, your subordinate, and my ex, told me that you had barricaded this planet to undergo your love tribulation."
Malik listened carefully; he did not need Ravi to tell him more. Based on the dreams and the memories that filled his mind, he could fill in the gaps.
Something had happened in the Netherworld. Something that made his face fill with so much loss. He had wandered somewhere to rest. It was a boulder.
Listening to Ravi, he could understand the world of immortals. Maybe because he was one, he did not need even more explanation.
Beings imbued with spiritual energy could take form and gain intelligence. He was King Yama so he was very powerful. The boulder he had rested on had gained form and intelligence.
Malik did not know where he had left for a long time but when he returned, a young man was standing where the boulder was, waiting for him.
Malik had been intrigued and had decided to play. The man was meant to be entertainment for King Yama.
Entertainment.
Malik knew himself so well. He must have played with this person so wantonly.
Naïve and stubborn, that young man had gone to bring glory to the King he loved with all his heart and had not returned.
The grief was so deep. Malik could still feel the imprint of the black silk ribbon on his hand.
That young fool refused to let to the ribbon that his King had given him.
King Yama had realized too late. Far too late. That young boulder was gone.
It was not a game. It was not entertainment. King Yama loved the boulder.
There were many gaps that Malik could not fill. Why did he let the boulder go to war, why he did not send someone to protect him if he could not go himself? No matter how gentle he looked, Malik knew the possessiveness and obsessiveness in his veins.
The same that had flared up with such fury when he had seen Anouk. He had been just sixteen years old and Anouk was a twenty-year-old hero who had a family background far bigger than the ordinary Malik could phantom at that time.
Yet, there was no doubt in his mind when he had felt Anouk’s emotion. This person was his; he belonged completely to him.
His heart which had been cold and empty seemed to start beating that moment.
Malik’s lips curled into a soft smile.
"A love tribulation, huh? I think it is more like a second chance."
Ravi looked at the soft look on Malik’s face, "Regretting why you made him run around Avalon looking for you?"
"A little."
Just a little. Right? Ravi did not believe him one bit, "Don’t forget what I told you. Something is wrong; somehow, I can feel a presence in Avalon. Aboriginal presence. Someone that does not belong here had snuck in and I have a strong feeling that their plans would not benefit us in the slightest." Ravi talked so much that he could feel his throat was dry. He licked his lips, "You should not worry too much. I would take care of it but Malik, we need to find Anouk and we need to find him quickly."
King Yama or not, Ravi did not want to imagine something happening to Malik and the grief of losing someone you love was something he did not want Malik to ever feel.
He was the number one ranked Sentinel in the Universe. Finding one aboriginal on Earth should not be that hard.
The wind rustled and someone flew out of the window of his house, sitting next to him.
Arlen’s hair was ruffled and his voice was filled with heavy sleep, "You were not next to me when I woke up."
Ravi smiled and kissed his forehead, "Sorry, Min Sol."
Malik sighed, "That is my cue to go to bed." He stood up and jumped down from the fence to his compound. He walked a few steps and then turned back, "Thank you, Ravi. I owe you."
Ravi nodded, "I bought snacks the last time, you owe me 32 dollars and 14 cents."
Malik chuckled and walked away.
Ravi moved closer to rest his head on Arlen’s shoulders, he felt like the silhouette of Malik walking away looked very lonely.
"A second chance." He recalled what Malik said and turned to Arlen, only to see his lover was sleeping sitting upright.
Ravi chuckled.
