Chapter 106: Chapter 106 – Toward the Tower of Echoes and a New Name

I slowly rose from where I had been sitting, stretching my body. Even though I didn’t feel physical exhaustion, the stiffness from being too long in that cold, gloomy dungeon still lingered.

Sunlight wrapped around me like a warm blanket I had long forgotten. But the warmth didn’t come only from the sky it came from a sense of freedom. For the first time in what felt like ages, I truly felt free.

However, I knew this moment couldn’t last forever. There was a place I had to go: the Tower of Echoes.

An ancient tower said to hold the secrets of the past and perhaps... my future.

Unfortunately, even though it was still on the same continent, the tower was far from here. Traveling overland would take far too long, and returning to the lich for teleportation help wasn’t ideal either. His location was even farther in the opposite direction.

I let out a soft sigh and opened my system panel.

"If I can’t shorten the distance, maybe I can lighten the burden," I muttered, glancing at my troops calmly standing around me.

Suddenly, I remembered one of my system’s new features System Storage.

The feature couldn’t store living beings... but zombies were no longer alive. They were undead entities soulless, without biological life. And that meant...

"Can I store them...?"

With a mix of curiosity and hope, I extended my hand toward one of my werewolf zombies and tried storing it.

DING!

[Unit successfully stored in Dimensional Storage.]

I held my breath for a moment. Then smiled.

"It works...!"

Without hesitation, I quickly stored the second werewolf, followed by the elf zombie and the loyal drake lingering near the bushes. All were stored without issue.

"This... is incredibly efficient."

With all my troops now neatly stored in dimensional slots, the journey would be much easier. I gently patted the back of my small dragon now my closest companion then climbed onto its broad, dark-scaled back.

"Let’s go," I whispered, and with a soft roar, it spread its wide wings.

We soared into the blue sky, cutting through the low-hanging clouds. The vast world stretched beneath us forests, hills, and ruins of abandoned cities. This world had changed... but amidst the ruins, traces of life and hope still remained.

After several minutes of flying, I started to feel bored. The wind brushing my face no longer felt fresh only silent.

Eventually, I decided to use telepathy, linking my mind with one of my most reliable soldiers Tyrant.

"Tyrant, how is Sofia’s condition? Any progress?"

There was a brief pause before his deep voice replied in my mind.

"My Queen. Lady Sofia’s physical condition has stabilized... but she has not yet regained consciousness."

His answer left me quiet. I felt relieved to know she was no longer in critical condition... but also an aching tightness in my chest, knowing her eyes still hadn’t opened. The last time I saw her weak and bleeding something inside me had refused to rest.

"Thank you... keep watching over her."

"Of course, My Queen."

Tyrant continued his report.

"The settlement for Lady Sofia’s group is about 60% complete. The main buildings and temporary shelters have been constructed. However... there are difficulties in establishing farmland. Much of the soil is contaminated and requires purification."

I gave a small nod, even though he couldn’t see it.

"Good. Keep it up. For the land, use purification magic from humans who possess it, or get help from zombies with water elements. If it’s too difficult, take it slowly."

"Understood."

I paused in thought before asking again.

"How many Rank 3 zombies are currently stationed there?"

"There are currently 18 Rank 3 units. Some have evolved, and two of them developed slightly different forms due to excessive consumption of crystals from the same type of mutant beast they appear to have fused."

I smiled faintly.

"Excellent. Create more if possible. We need more elites to defend the territory." freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Yes, My Queen."

Then, a sudden question surfaced in my mind. Something felt different about our communication this time. Clearer. Closer.

"Tyrant. Why is the telepathic link between us stronger than before? I can sense your presence more clearly."

Another pause. Then the answer came.

"I have evolved, My Queen. I am now Rank 4."

My eyes widened in surprise.

"Really?" I whispered.

That meant Tyrant’s power was now nearly on par with mine. Not just an elite soldier but a true commander.

"You’ve come so far... impressive."

Then I asked in a more serious tone.

"With your current strength... do you wish to break free from my control? Form your own group?"

But his response was swift. Firm.

"Never, My Queen. I will always remain loyal to you. No matter how powerful I become, I will never forget who gave me a second life."

I held back a satisfied smile. Trust and loyalty like this... couldn’t be bought. They were forged through shared battles and sacrifice.

"Then... since you are now Rank 4, I shall give you a name."

I paused, thinking deeply. A name was a symbol of strength, honor, and identity. And this name had to suit a being as powerful and loyal as Tyrant.

"From now on, your name is Zark."

"Zark..." His voice echoed in my mind, as if engraving the name into his very soul. "Thank you, My Queen. I shall carry this name with pride."

I looked ahead toward the horizon. The sun was beginning to set in the west, the clouds painted in soft hues of orange.

Above the quiet sky, with my dragon carrying me across the lands.

By the way... it seems that I can now see the status of my troops from afar, especially after the system evolved.

I was curious.

With a light flick of my fingers, I opened my system panel, then selected the tab displaying the list of undead troops under my direct command.

There, right at the top, the name "Tyrant" had already changed to "Zark."

[UNIT: Zark]

[Type: Special-Class Undead]

[Subtype: Mutation Berserker – Rank 4]

[HP: 41,800 / 41,800]

[MP: 3,600 / 3,600]

[STR: 850][VIT: 920]

[AGI: 230]

[INT: 180]

[LUK: 50]

[Active Skills]:

– Dread Slam (Lv.5)

– A ground-shaking slam that creates an area shockwave.

– Titan Rage (Lv.3)

– Enters a berserk state, greatly increasing STR and VIT for a short duration.

– Absorb Essence (Lv.2) – Absorbs energy from dead creatures to accelerate regeneration or evolution.– Bone Maelstrom (Lv.4)

– Summons a whirlpool of bones to attack all enemies in a certain radius.

[Passive Skills]:

– Undying Resilience (Max)

– Immune to fear effects, critical injuries strengthen body defense.

– Loyalty Sigil

– Permanently linked to the Queen’s command.

– Mutated Core

– Potential for further evolution unlocked, depending on special energy consumption.

[Special Status]:

– Named Entity (Zark)

– Loyalty: Absolut

– Telepathic Link: Enhanced

– Authority: Mid-Class Troop Commander

I narrowed my eyes, reading each detail carefully. The drastic increase in STR and VIT made him almost comparable to a mid-level dungeon mini-boss. The new skill "Absorb Essence" was also intriguing it hinted at further growth potential.

But what caught my attention the most were the statuses "Mutated Core" and "Authority: Mid-Class Troop Commander."

"So now he can lead his own unit... probably those at Rank 2 and below," I murmured. "And that mutation... could be the key to Rank 5 later."

I closed the system panel with a slight smile.

"Zark... you really keep surprising me."

Atop this dragon’s back, with the night wind starting to blow and the sky fading into hues of orange and purple, I felt that this world still held many mysteries and my army was part of them.

And now, my next destination was drawing near.

The Tower of Echoes.
