I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 107 – Loyalty
Chapter 107: Chapter 107 – Loyalty
In the distance, the sun began to slip beneath the horizon, casting an orange hue across the sky, still heavy with the dust and smoke of a broken civilization. Amidst the wreckage of a world torn apart by catastrophe, life in whatever form pressed on.
Zark stood motionless atop a hill that was once the ruins of a small settlement. Now, the place had changed. Hundreds of zombies were working in organized, efficient silence, shaping a massive structure from stone, metal, and debris. Giant pillars slowly rose, Gothic-style window arches began to take shape, and crude carvings started to adorn the walls completely out of place in the modern era.
A castle.
Not a military base, nor a bunker, and certainly not a logistics camp. A castle.
This old-world structure looked absurd in a land of burnt cars, fallen satellites, and dangling power lines. But Zark didn’t care. The old world was dead. And for his Queen for Sylvia the new world deserved a new symbol.
A place that could be both a throne and a home for a being as magnificent as her.
He closed his eyes, recalling the gentle telepathic voice from before.
"Then... since you’re now Rank 4, I’ll give you a name."
"From now on, your name is Zark."
That name wasn’t just a label. It was a sign of trust. Proof that he was no longer just a pawn among the undead ranks, but something more. A leader. A commander. And perhaps... a true companion to the Queen.
With his new Rank 4 status, Zark could now access abilities that had once been locked. One of them was large-scale coordination commands. With a single thought, he could direct hundreds of Rank 1 and Rank 0 zombies to work in sync building, digging, stacking stones, and installing structures. Rank 2 zombies served as overseers and sentries at the construction site, while 18 Rank 3 zombies took on the role of brute-force engineers transporting massive materials and shaping the foundation of the castle.
Atop that hill, the castle gradually took form. With watchtowers, a heavy steel gate, and even a subterranean dungeon in the works.
Zark knew it might seem ridiculous by modern standards. But in his mind, it was a true expression of respect. Of loyalty. This castle would be a masterpiece for the Queen. When she returned from the other world and saw it standing tall, Zark imagined the smile that would grace Sylvia’s face a rare, yet warming smile.
But his duty didn’t end there.
At the base of the hill, about two kilometers from the castle site, was a human settlement. A refuge for survivors, once led by Lady Sofia a woman who, despite being human, had earned the Queen’s special regard. In fact, Zark knew... there was something deeper than just an alliance between them.
Sofia was still in a coma. And Zark knew how important her safety was to Sylvia.
So, in addition to building the castle, Zark silently kept watch over the human settlement. He had deployed five Rank 2 zombies and two Rank 3s in a hidden surveillance formation, ensuring that no threat could approach undetected.
Every night, he stood at the same spot, watching the campfires in the settlement flicker to life. He saw the human children run with worn-out dolls in their arms, the men working to build new farmlands, and the healing mages using purification spells to cleanse the tainted soil. Sometimes they laughed. Sometimes they cried. Sometimes they just stared at the sky in silence.
They were fragile. Weak. But they were alive.
And somehow, that made Zark begin to understand what his Queen saw in humanity.
He had once been a beast. A mindless engine of destruction. But now, with a new name and a growing will, he was beginning to realize... that strength wasn’t just about killing. It was also about protecting.
Zark descended the hill and entered the unfinished underground section of the castle. There, two Rank 3 zombies half-beast hybrids mutated from absorbing too many beast-type crystals were digging tunnels for an emergency escape route.
They straightened up when they saw Zark enter. And though they said nothing, the respect in their posture was clear.
"Continue," Zark said briefly.
He walked through a massive chamber that would one day become the throne hall. He could already imagine Sylvia sitting there, surrounded by the glow of violet candles, ruling with a presence both terrifying and divine.
He stopped in the center of the room, staring at the rough stone ceiling above.
Then he called one of the Rank 2 zombies assigned to record progress.
"Report. Construction status."
The zombie, whose face was nearly stripped of all skin, let out a raspy voice.
"Main structure at 40%. Gate completed. East tower 70%. Underground level 50%. Additional steel required."
Zark nodded. "Take it from the ruins of the military factory to the southeast. Send two hauling units and one Rank 3 combat unit."
"Order received."
After the zombie left, Zark stood in silence again.
Then, he stepped out onto a high balcony overlooking the human settlement. From there, he could see everything.
Sofia was still unconscious. But her skin was no longer pale. Her wounds had closed. Her breathing was steady.
Zark watched her for a long time.
"Wake up, Lady Sofia," he whispered softly, unsure why. "When the Queen returns, she’ll be happy to see you smile."
The night wind brushed his face. But he didn’t feel cold. Only... calm.
Then, without a sound, he returned below. Toward the skeleton of the unfinished castle already brimming with hope, blood, and stone.
Because he knew that when the old world crumbles, the new one must be built by the hands of the loyal.
And Zark would make sure that when Sylvia returned... a home would await her.
Not just empty land. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
But a throne.
Zark descended the stone stairs with heavy but steady steps. Each footfall echoed faintly among the unfinished, rough walls that now formed the strong foundation of the structure destined to become a new center of power.
He walked among the undead laborers zombies clad in tattered clothing, hands caked with mud and old blood, yet they worked without complaint. They had no consciousness, no dreams, but... they had commands. And to them, Zark’s word was law.
At one side of the structure, he paused to observe a group of water-element zombies cleansing toxic material from a pile of stone. Zark had ordered some of them to assist the humans in purifying the soil around the settlement, but others he kept here, to serve as sources of clean water and processors of molten metal.
"Stabilize the water supply on the lower levels," Zark ordered flatly, and the zombies moved in immediate compliance.
Every element, every movement coordinated. Even if this wasn’t a kingdom in the traditional sense, this place had already become the heart of a new order: The Queen’s order.
But behind it all, Zark understood one important thing the castle was only the beginning. It was more than just shelter or a symbol of power. To him... it was a form of gratitude.
Zark had been no one. He remembered, as a human, he had been considered useless. And after the outbreak, he was turned into a massive bloodthirsty creature, wandering aimlessly, killing and destroying simply because that’s what instinct told him to do. But when Sylvia transformed him gave him a name and new power... something within him awakened.
Will.
He was no longer just a machine. He was a being capable of choice.
And he had chosen to remain loyal, not out of post-death submission like before, but by his own will.
Zark climbed the unfinished western tower. From its rough peak, he closed his eyes for a moment. Centering his focus. With the heightened senses of Rank 4, he could scan the surrounding terrain more delicately, projecting his ’spiritual sense’ over long distances.
And yes he could still sense a faint line from Sylvia’s telepathy, which had been cut off hours ago. It was far. But powerful. He knew the Queen was currently flying toward the Tower of Echoes.
Suddenly, a Rank 3 zombie approached and knelt before him, head bowed low.
"Commander Zark. Arrival report," it growled.
"Speak," Zark replied without looking.
"A group of wild zombies has wandered into the northern ruins. Approximately 30 individuals. Rank 1 and 2. They’ve shown no aggression yet, but a few have tried to approach the settlement."
Zark turned his head, his eyes glowing with a dim red light.
"Capture and tame them. If that fails eliminate. Do not let a single one get near the humans."
"Understood."
Zark let out a quiet sigh. He knew not all zombies could be controlled. Many still roamed aimlessly, posing a threat to all living beings even to fellow undead already under the Queen’s banner.
But that’s the way the world was now.
Chaos... could only be countered by order.
And he would ensure that this territory this small corner of the world under his care remained within the order set by Sylvia.
Zark returned to the main courtyard. By now, bonfires had been lit by the fire-element zombies at the castle’s central point, providing additional illumination for those still working through the night. Though they could see in the dark, the light made the tasks more comfortable.
He approached one of the main walls, where a half-finished statue was being sculpted by specialized zombies with precise hands. The statue depicted a woman with long flowing hair, a cold yet regal expression, and eyes that radiated an undefinable aura.
Sylvia.
"The details must be perfect," Zark said. "If you can’t replicate her face from your memories, use the image from my visual recollection."
The zombies nodded, silently. They understood this was not just a statue. It would be a symbol one that thousands of beings would look upon in the future, should civilization rise again.
Zark stepped back, observing their work. The stone was still rough, but the silhouette... already felt majestic.
The night wind carried the scent of metal and dust. The world remained dead, but here, amid ruined land, a single spark of hope was being built by undead hands.
For when the Queen returned...
And when she set foot on this soil once more... Zark would bow, lower his head, and say:
"Your throne awaits."
