Chapter 1151: Did she or did she not kill Felice?

"Does he know that you’re after Hera Cruel because your beloved grandmother killed Hera’s mother? That she has all the reasons to come after your family? And she’s actually the victim here, not you or the Zhu Family?"

Axel did his research when Heaven confessed to the truth. The truth was not easy to believe or even accept. However, since that explained many things, Axel’s interest in who Hera Cruel was consumed him. Aside from the crimes his legal team was still working on to find a loophole, Axel found a thing or two about Hera Cruel.

She was the daughter of an infamous man named Vicenzo. He, however, died of natural causes. Her mother, on the other hand, was murdered. Although the information he garnered wasn’t enough, it was enough for him to put things together. And it was also enough for Axel to know how much Hera’s mother’s death hurt her.

So, hearing this woman say the person who killed Hera’s mother was Grandma Zhu was akin to a straight jab to their faces.

"Axel," Ivy called worriedly, seeing his shoulder tremble with his eyes fixed on the monitors. She pressed her lips into a thin line, catching Bear looking at Dominic with wide eyes. Dominic, on the other hand, didn’t say anything. His dark expression, however, told her the person he was talking to wasn’t lying.

"You..." Dominic let out a short chuckle, which sounded like a hiss. "... did your research."

The Madam chuckled. "I know how much you value your family; it reminds me of Donnabella. Your grandmother would commit even the most heinous crime for your family."

"Shut up!" Axel roared through his grit. "Who the hell are you, huh!?"

"Oh? I didn’t know your brother was with you."

A glint flickered across Dominic’s eyes as he took a deep breath. Who would believe her that she didn’t know Axel was here? She purposely worded her words that way for Axel and possibly for Bear to hear.

"Axel, calm down." Ivy held Axel’s arm, shaking her head at him. "She’s just trying to rile everyone up. Don’t let her — whoever she is."

Axel clenched his teeth, casting his brother a look. He bit his own tongue to stop whatever negotiation or discussion Dominic would have. However, he swore to get the truth out of his brother after this. Bear also remained level-headed, knowing this Madam was simply trying to make them go against each other.

’But if it’s true that Old Madam Zhu killed Felice...’ Bear gazed down, the veins across his jaw protruding. ’God forbid for what I’m going to do.’

"Family..." the Madam continued in a sentimental tone. "... aren’t they lovely? One would do anything for the family to the point they make decisions because they think they do not have a choice. Minister Zhu, you remind me of many people in terms of your philosophy about family. However, it is not fair to keep secrets from the people you protect. How would they protect you if you’re the one in trouble?"

"Enough with the poetry, Madam." Dominic let out a shallow breath, resting a hand on his hip. "What is it that you truly want from me?"

"You know what I want, Minister Zhu."

"I don’t. I am too busy fighting a silent war with Hera Cruel," said Dominic. "We both know she won’t sit still once she gets enough losses."

The madam chuckled, rocking her head in agreement. "That is why I am helping you get rid of them."

Deep lines appeared between Dominic’s brows, stopping himself from asking what the Madam had done.

"As of the moment, my people are attacking Hera Cruel," said the Madam. "Although she might survive, her casualties will be big enough to stop pestering you."

Dominic’s jaw tightened as he clenched his hand. "And what reassures me she’ll stop?"

"I’m the type not to give reassurance, Minister Zhu." The Madam smirked. "But if you didn’t hear from her, that only means I’m telling the truth."

Bear ground his teeth, itching to fly back to the Reapers’ base to see the situation. He didn’t know this madam, but if she was capable enough to infiltrate the Secret Floor’s system, she was capable of doing what she claimed.

"That’s one less problem," she continued in amusement. "However, I won’t take this as you owe me. Consider it as compensation. An apology."

"Apology for what?"

"I might have taken a misstep and sent someone to silence Donnabella. But it turns out you already knew it. Oops." Even though they couldn’t see the madam, every single one who was listening to her could imagine the vicious smile on her face. "My condolences. I’ll contact you again in a few days. I hope, by that time, you have decided on our terms." frёewebηovel.cѳm

With that being said, the line disconnected. Silence fell in the Secret Floor office as neither one of them spoke. Even if they wanted to speak, their voice was stuck in their throat.

Where would they even begin?

That three-minute conversation told them many things that were hard to digest.

"Grandma," Dominic whispered, taking his phone and dialing the ancestral home.

No one answered.

He tried again, but for some reason, no one was answering the home telephone. Hence, he tried contacting Butler Fu. He also didn’t answer. Dominic’s imagination went wild, thinking of the heinous scene he would see once he went to the ancestral home.

"Bear, call for backup and ask the General to send his troops," Dominic said in a hurry, taking his blazer that was draped over the desk. "I need to check Grandma."

But instead of listening, Bear grabbed Dominic’s arm tightly. "Is it true?" he asked under his breath. "Did your grandmother kill Felice?"

Dominic held his breath, staring at the fire swirling in Bear’s eyes as the latter suppressed his anger.

"It was a long story —"

"Did she or did she not kill Felice?" This time, Bear rose from his seat and gazed down at Dominic. "Answer me, Dominic. The answer is a simple yes or no. I don’t care if you have to lie right to my face to make me follow you right now, but you got to tell me. Am I going to save Felice’s murderer tonight?"
