I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1150: All the reason to come at you
Chapter 1150: All the reason to come at you
Meanwhile, in the Secret Floor...
Ivy and Axel stood in the corner, watching Dominic work in the main system of the Secret Floor.
"What is he doing?" Ivy leaned to her side where Axel stood, arms crossed. "Does he know how to do some hacking?"
"I doubt." Axel shook his head, his eyes fixed on his brother. "Maybe he learned a thing or two in the past year, but I doubt he knew more than he should."
"Then what is he doing?" Ivy furrowed her brows, curious.
"Like I said, I have no idea." Axel’s expression turned darker the more he studied his brother’s visage. "What happened during his visit to the ancestral home?"
"Nothing."
Axel shot her a quick and sharp look. "I’m not asking as your friend, but your boss’s brother. There’s nothing you’d say that makes me change my mind about grandma."
Ivy pursed her lips and sighed, shrugging. "I don’t know the details. All I know is that whatever Grandma Zhu told him rattled him. I barely managed to keep him calm because I thought he would kill someone."
What she said only raised more questions than answers. Axel already accepted that their family wasn’t that great like what others see it. It was the reason he would rather stay estranged than get reminded of how his grandmother and parents chose to protect their family’s reputation and sold Silas’s innocence.
Even so, Dominic chose to stay in contact with them because they were still family. Not that Axel was against it. After all, they were different, and he understood that regardless of what happened in the past, Dominic often made a sound decision.
Which was why Axel was suspicious.
What happened in the ancestral home that could make Dominic angry to this degree?
"Whatever it is... I don’t know if I even want to hear it," mumbled Axel. "My gut feelings tell me it’s not something I shouldn’t hear."
Ivy stared at his side profile worriedly, but before she could say something, the entrance flew open. She instinctively shifted her attention to the person coming in, furrowing her brows as she recognized the man.
"Bear?" she whispered. "What is he doing here?"
"I don’t know, but if he is here, there’s a more important matter that came up. More important than guarding Dimitri and his minion."
"You called for me?" Bear inquired as soon as he approached Dominic. freёnovelkiss.com
"Take a look at this, Bear." Dominic pushed the chair away from the desk, letting Bear lean over to check the monitor.
Bear squinted his eyes, reading through some confidential files from another government agency. "Where did you get this?"
"Does it matter?" Dominic stared at the screen solemnly. "Gray pulled it up for me. He’s still on the line."
Bear cast Dominic a quick look before picking up another earpiece on the desk. He put it on, only to hear Gray talking from the other end of the line.
"I’m still checking. I don’t know if I should thank Joker for giving Basti this laptop, but — what the fuck?"
"What’s going on, Gray?" Bear let out a low growl, pressing the earpiece as if that would make the noises on the other end of the line clearer.
"Oh, shoot. Wait." Gray worked on the keyboard, his fingers tapping on the keyboard nonstop. "Someone’s attacking my software — I’m trying to fend them off. In the meantime, I managed to send some files over to Dominic. Go check it — it’s password-protected. You can work on that, can you?"
"I can try that."
Dominic automatically rose from his seat while Bear pulled it closer and sat down on it. Dominic stood on the side, watching Bear work on the computer. Good thing Bear and Gray were left with him as they could assist him with such issues.
According to Hera, Bear was someone she trusted in many things. Hence, Bear, despite his age, had to learn a thing or two about such issues. After all, Bear was granted access to Hera’s files and software. Dominic was a little doubtful about it in the past, but now that he could see Bear’s work, he felt the need to apologize to the old man for judging him.
As Bear worked on the computer, Dominic felt his phone vibrate. Taking his phone out of his pocket, he squinted his eyes at the unknown number on the screen.
’It’s the Madam again,’ he told himself. ’It’s been a while since she called.’
The last time he conversed with Hera’s enemy was also the first. The Madam told him she would keep in touch, but it had been a while since she contacted him.
’What a convenient time,’ thought Dominic, glancing at Bear. ’And I had the feeling this wasn’t a mere coincidence that she had contacted me right after I figured out who she was.’
Dominic weighed his options, but he still answered the call afterward. However, as soon as he did, all the monitors on the Secret Floor lit up. The call was redirected to the Secret Floor’s system, allowing everyone to hear the person on the other end of the line.
"Mr. Zhu, it is a great evening tonight, isn’t it?" were the first words he heard from the other end of the line. "And it took you some time to answer. Were you afraid something would explode again if you answered?"
Axel and Ivy looked at each other, shrugging, as they both had no idea what was going on. Bear, on the other hand, simply glanced at Dominic.
"I was simply considering if you are still useful to me." A layer of frost coated Dominic’s eyes, signaling Bear to do something to remove the woman’s connection to the Secret Floor’s system. "After all, I don’t think there’s any reason for me to indulge with you further. You have nothing to put on the table, Madam."
"Haha. What a thing to say," the woman chuckled. "Though before that, you do not have to worry. Even if I managed to redirect this call to the Secret Floor, I won’t access your private data."
"It’s not that you won’t, but you can’t. Even if you managed, there’s nothing you’d see," Dominic smirked, gazing at the monitors in front of the office. "This system is special."
"It is, and I am surprised how you managed to find someone to do it," the madam sounded amused.
Deep lines furrowed Axel’s brows as he listened to this exchange. He couldn’t help but get reminded of Hera’s work on the Secret Floor. According to her, she added a special layer of protection to the Secret Floor’s security. What it was exactly, Axel didn’t know.
"Anyway, had you thought of our last conversation?" The Madam asked curiously. "Do you think we could work together?"
Dominic smirked as he let out a short laugh. "I don’t think I can work with someone I couldn’t trust."
"Are you still mad at what I did to get your attention?"
"You asked me that time why I am going after the person you wanted." Dominic leaned against the desk where Bear was working, only to see the latter nod at him reassuringly.
That gesture was enough for Dominic to know that the Madam was telling the truth about the data. She couldn’t access it. Well, Hera spent a few days working on this extra layer of protection for their data. Their data wouldn’t be easily breached.
"But you’ve known all along the reason," Dominic continued, batting his eyes at the monitors before him. "The moment you asked me why you should be interested in me, I figured you needed me more than I need you."
"So, you’ve known all along and played me?" the Madam mused, smirking. "I’m impressed."
A wave of soft chuckle escaped her. "Does your brother know too?"
Dominic’s expression turned dark while Axel furrowed his brows. The latter instinctively glanced in Dominic’s direction, only to see the sour look on his brother’s face.
"Does he know that you’re after Hera Cruel because your beloved grandmother killed Hera’s mother? That she has all the reasons to come after your family? And she’s actually the victim here, not you or the Zhu Family?"
Axel’s breath hitched as his entire body froze. Bear shared the same reaction, gazing at Dominic with wide eyes. Ivy’s furrowed brows knitted even more, confused.
What did she say?
Axel shook his head mildly while studying the grim look on Dominic’s face. He knew his brother and as well knew his grandmother.
"No," he denied in a whisper. "No..."
